She was awarded $50 and a certificate to recognize her excellent sewing skills. A special thank you is extended to Michael and the late Gloria Jensen for sponsoring the Best Clothing Construction Award this year. Join Us for Bake and Take Week Box Elder County is celebrating 4-H during Bake and Take Week, October 2-7. We encourage all to take a baked good to someone that has been an influence on youth through the 4-H program. If you don t have time to bake something, consider sending a thank you note. Many people have donated much of their time and money to help youth learn leadership, citizenship and life skills. For more than 100 years, 4-H has been providing youth with the innovative research and resources from our nation s 106 land-grant universities and colleges.

7 The Box Elder County 4-H Dog Program, PAWS for Applause held their 2017 Fair Show on August 3rd and 4th. Obedience and Showmanship took place at the Box Elder County Fairgrounds. Agility Trails were held in conjunction with Wheat and Beet Days on Friday, August 4. Obedience Grand Champion: Selina Johnston and Buddy Tacie Hatch and Walle Showmanship Grand Champion: Landon Sorensen and Suki Naomi Tomlinson and Rio Agility Best Overall: Mattie Johnston and Cooper PAWS for Applause was the Pre-Rodeo Show entertainment on Wednesday night during the Box Elder County Fair. Selina Johnston and Buddy (left) demonstrated the Agility course. They also won Grand Champion in the Obedience Class at the Dog Show. Thanks for representing 4-H with style! Those who complete a Portfolio receive premium money and are eligible for prizes at Achievement Night. Please remember that when you are a senior in high school these portfolios are used to qualify for scholarships. First year members and leaders will receive their certificates at Achievement Night on Thursday, December 7 at 5:30 p.m. Leader and member seals will be available at Achievement Night for others who are interested in updating their certificate. If you have lost your certificate, call or stop in at the USU Extension Service and we will be happy to give you another. Portfolios/Record Books/Sale Checks Portfolios are due October 2 Livestock Record Books are due October 2 The yellow Livestock Record Books are available in the Brigham Office for $1 or print from: resources/livestockrecordbook.pdf Portfolio training, rubrics and fillable forms can be found at: All 4-H and FFA market steer, lamb, and hog exhibitors will be required to turn in an updated Portfolio (white binder) or Record Book (yellow booklet) prior to receiving their sale check. These books need to follow the guidelines set by the 4-H office or FFA department. The Record Book needs to be the work of the exhibitor. Junior livestock checks will be available to 4-H youth who participated in the Box Elder 4-H/FFA Livestock Auction on Monday, October 30, at the USU Extension Office, 01 South Main, Room #30 in Brigham City. FFA exhibitors are required to check with their FFA advisor concerning record book deadlines and will also receive their checks from their FFA advisor. 4-H MEMBERS SUBMITTING LATE REC- ORD BOOKS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PICK UP THEIR CHECKS UNTIL NOVEMBER 13 AT THE BRIGHAM USU EXTENSION OFFICE. Those bringing in their books after November 13 will need to leave their books at the office for seven days before picking up their livestock check. 11 Teen Leadership Training (TLT) Register by October 2 Each year 4-H teens in grades 9-12 gather from all across the state to develop leadership skills. Participants take part in a variety of fun and challenging activities designed to enhance their ability to lead in their 4-H clubs and communities. Held in October during UEA on Utah State University Campus If you are a Sophomore or Junior in high school right now, there in an opportunity for you to shadow the State Ambassadors at TLT (Teen Leadership Training) and see how things run. 13 LEARNING BY DOING! The first of two Utah 4-H Shooting Sports Practice Rifle Training/Competitions will be held on November 4, 2017 at the Southern Utah Practical Shooting Range near the Washington County Fair Grounds. Youth who would like to participate in the Utah State 4-H Rifle Competition should attend this or the other training opportunity (date TBD- possibly in Salt Lake). The State 4-H Rifle Competition, which will qualify youth to attend the National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition in Grand Island, Nebraska on June 24-29, 2018, will be held this spring at the Cache Valley Public Shooting Range. Date TBD. In order to participate in the Utah 4-H Shooting Sports Rifle Competition youth must participate in one of the two state rifle practice competitions.
