2 1977 Dean Merrill J. Bateman receives approval from the university to organize the Brigham Young University Management Society. Its purpose is to strengthen relationships with alumni and friends of the College of Business and School of Management. This is a giving society. However, it is not a one-way relationship. The society is organized in such a way that it is mutually rewarding to BYU and you.

3 First off-campus meeting a banquet in Los Angeles to announce the formation of the society Members receive complimentary subscriptions to Exchange Magazine and receive other publications. Society hosts its first Management Seminar New Perspectives in Management. Campus chapter forms

4 Membership tied to contributions, from $10 for students to $10,000 for charter lifetime membership 267 members 1978

5 1980 Dean William Dyer continues to grow the society. We want our graduates and friends to feel they have a share in BYU and the School of Management. The Management Society is a vehicle for keeping all of these supporters involved and active in our future... It is a vital part in linking the campus with the mainstream of management practice.

8 1982 Dallas chapter kickoff event with Jeffrey R. Holland, then the 9 th president of BYU. It is my hope that all BYU Alumni will remain very close to the university that has provided an educational foundation for their professional careers. The Management Society provides just such an opportunity for graduates and friends of our School of Management and I encourage every one of them to participate.

14 1990 Dean K. Fred Skousen creates new mission statement for the Marriott School. Our mission is to attract and develop men and women of faith, character, and professional ability who will become outstanding managers and leaders throughout the world.

15 1992 Elder Dallin H. Oaks speaks to Washington D.C., chapter members about churches rights to voice opinions on public policy and candidates.

16 Stephen R Covey speaks to more than 2,000 guests at the Central Florida chapter s kickoff event. 1995

18 1997 Salt Lake and Utah Valley chapters jointly honor Gordon B. Hinckley with the 1997 Distinguished Utahn Award

19 Ned Hill appointed dean of the Marriott School of Management The Management Society especially has blessed the lives of so many of our former students, their families, non-students, and wards and stakes around the Church. I don t think we can even begin to account for the difference the Management Society chapters have made in the world.

20 2000 Mitt Romney receives the Distinguished Public Service Award from the Washington DC Chapter at their annual Gala. Robert E Parsons, Jr., and J.W. Marriott, Jr., present the award.

23 2006 Liz Wiseman speaks in Silicon Valley at the first W.O.M.E.N. event (Women s Organization for Mentoring, Education, and Networking).

26 2008 Gary Cornia becomes Marriott School Dean I believe that succeeding in the management world, at any level, requires relationships. The Management Society gives the participants the opportunity to develop relationships to make strong networks. It helps them career-wise. It helps them professionally. Its hard to measure those kinds of benefits but they are absolutely there.

33 2017 Over the last 40 years the BYU Management Society has done so much for the BYU Marriott School of Business. We especially acknowledge the importance of your engagement and financial resources to our school s success. And this year we also ask you do a little more.
