4 From your Pastorate: MMCC- overview If you missed the Mission Center Conference at Olathe, you missed a spirit filled day! Besides our great MMC President s team, we were fed by Apostle Janne Grover, President of Seventy John Wight, President Scott Murphy and Member of the Presiding Bishopric Michele McGrath. Wow, what an opportunity for Spirit Living we had that day. Six priesthood calls were approved: Kyle Joyce - office of Seventy Dave Hall - office of Seventy Sharon Diddle - office of High Priest Mary Gill office of High Priest Mikal Shedd office of Evangelist Wim van Klinken office of Bishop Of course we had the business portion of the meeting approving budgets, audits, reports, boards, and awards but God s holy spirit was there and supported us all in our discussions and opinions being shared. Make plans now to join the next MMC gathering March 24, Pastor Mary 2018 Reunion Themes *Breathe Peace *Live Witness *Embody Wholeness *Embrace Formation *Experience Restoration Theme-based Resources The following resources will be available in early Links can be found at *Worship Services *Children's Lessons *Youth Lessons *Adult Text Lessons will focus on how the purposes of the Temple, drawn from D&C 156:5, invite the church to journey anew with what it means to embody the purposes of the Temple. God breathes new life into the church and the world as disciples receive, embody, and share these purposes. Lesson 1: Pursuit of peace, reconciliation, and healing of the spirit Lesson 2: Strengthening of faith and preparation for witness Lesson 3: Wholeness of body, mind, and spirit Lesson 4: Leadership education for PH and member Lesson 5: Restoration as healing and redeeming agent This text will be available from Herald House in Submit a Prayer The Prayer for Peace is the centerpiece of the Daily Prayer for Peace service held each day at the Community of Christ Temple. Approximately 1½ 3 minutes long, the prayer expresses the yearning of the gathered community for wholeness in relationships between humanity, creation, and the Creator. *The prayer may be written in prose, or it may be poetry. *It should not include a specific country but be universal. *It should use inclusive language. *Be aware that while we are a Christian denomination sponsoring this prayer, the desire for peace is universal. *Prayers are attributed to their authors. Prayers submitted become the property of Community of Christ. prayers to Daily Prayer for Peace. It s that time of year! Where we come together and watch Chiefs football, play games, socialize and eat great food! Come join us every Chief s weekend game at the Ruoff s for fun and laughter. World Service Corps Alumnus on Winning Nobel Team-Matthew Bolton (son of retired apostle Andrew Bolton) is living Christ's call to Pursue Peace. The Graceland University alumnus and former World Service Corps volunteer was part of an effort that led to a Nobel Peace Prize win for the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. The prize was announced 6 October. Bolton graduated from Graceland University in 2001 with a degree in history and religion. He earned a master s degree in development studies and a doctorate in government from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He and his spouse, Emily Welty, who also has been working with ICAN, are professors at Pace University in New York City. Bolton was part of a team that successfully advocated for the inclusion of victim assistance and environmental remediation provisions, and international cooperation and assistance provided to countries affected by use and testing of nuclear weapons. Planning Worship in 2018? Now available at Worship Resources, Year B This book contains suggestions for worship planning for Advent 2017 up to Advent Weekly worship outlines include Community of Christ worship themes, lectionary-based scriptures, ways to engage all ages, recommended hymns from Community of Christ Sings, drama scripts and responsive readings, special prayers, focus moments, worship settings, and more. Sermon & Class Helps, Year B This book contains sermon and class helps based on focus scriptures listed in the Revised Common Lectionary for Sundays and special liturgical days during Year B with emphasis on the Gospel according to Mark. Each week includes sections called Exploring the Scripture, Central Ideas and Questions for the Speaker. Plan Now for Graceland Students Internships Church-affiliated organizations, mission centers, campgrounds, and congregations with interest in interns are encouraged to contact Mike Hoffman, campus minister at Graceland University. Hoffman said recently that some students already are being placed for summer of Businesses and nonprofit organizations outside the church also are encouraged to take on interns, providing them experience related to majors or a career. Jan Gray handles those inquiries at the college. Internships are an integral part of Graceland s experience for students, Hoffman said. Positions related to a major or career help them prepare for employment. An internship related to the Community of Christ's mission can help prepare students for bivocational ministry. Most students would benefit from paid internships. Transportation, housing, and meals might also be considered for internship plans. Resources to help plan an internship are available. Special Worship Services Sometimes we all need a little boost of creativity when planning worship. The Worship Ideas page on the church's website can help! On this page, you can find entire worship outlines for many of the Christian holidays, sacraments, and other special worship times in the life of the congregation. New ideas continue to be added to the collection. If you'd like to share a worship service or idea to be considered for inclusion, please contact the Worship Team.
