1 October 2017, Vol 20- No 9 INTERGENERATIONAL ACTIVITY Our intergenerational acitivity at 10:00am, has been successful so far. The theme for the Sunday is used, so it prepares us for the Worship Service. Ron has a sign up sheet if you would like to be in charge of the activity. If you haven't been to the activity, come! you might like it! I would encourage all to come and share as a church family. Young Adult Retreat Oct. 6 at 5 PM to Oct. 8 at 1 PM. "Leaves of Change Don t Miss Out on this epic weekend for Michigan Young Adults held at Park of the Pines Campground in Boyne City, MI. Guest Minister, Richard Betts, from Independence, MO, live music, fall color tours, gourmet S More Bar, worship, tailgating, chili, cider and donuts, and more! Everything you love about autumn will be packed into a weekend of rest, renewal, growth, and discovery. The cost for the weekend is $45. Per person or $80 for a couple. Reflections of Youth Camp This was my first year at Jr. High. We had many, many fun activities, but my favorite was definitely the Photo Scavenger Hunt. Every night during devotions we always talked about what the theme was going to be the next day, and we connected. But my second most favorite part was the last night, BUT ONLY because of devotions. We did this thing were we walked around and answered questions. I remember me and Corinne answered one of the questions like " we grew up here it's like a home of peace that we have, where we can be ourselves and feel welcome. The place we feel the Holy Spirit the most." Or something like that. Others would love to hear about your experience. Red Cross Blood Drive October 23, 11:00am-- 4:45pm, at the church. Help will be needed about 9:30am to unload the truck. If you are available to help at the blood drive see Sandi Ecker. We will need to furnish cookies for the refreshments after giving blood. 1

3 Pastor's Column By Ron Fuller Talking with my sister a while back, the subject came up of stepping down from responsibilities to allow a younger generation take over. She is reaching the age where it is apparent she can't go on like this forever, and she is very busy. Most of the things she does aren't that hard - anyone could do them. But she takes the time to do them. We look at the many things that need doing and decide which ones really have to be done right now and no one else seems enthused about. These go to the top of the list, followed by the ones that we are especially suited for. Next on the list are the things that we really enjoy. At this point we realize there aren't enough hours in the day. We have the advantage that our children, and even our grandchildren, are past the age where they need constant care. We also have had experience with doing lots of things for many years. And we like doing things; that is the way we have always lived our lives. Still we worry about what will happen when we are no longer able to continue and no one has prepared themselves to step into those roles. The outlook from those who study volunteer organizations doesn't look very promising. There are more things that need to be done and fewer people to do them. That list of those involved with the actual doing consists of people getting older and grayer. Yet our congregation has it better than many. We do have young people who are involved. They participate and inject new ideas. They have new skills and new outlooks. They might not be ready to do everything now, but they are moving in that direction. As for my sister and I, we will probably keep doing until we are no longer able. It is the only way of life we are familiar with. It is the way our parents and grandparents lived. And it is a good way to live. 3

4 Attention! Junior High Youth Junior High Retreat November Come celebrate the beauty of friendship at the Park of the Pines! Registration will start on Friday, November 10 th at 6:30pm. Pick up time will be Sunday, November 12 th at 3:00pm. The cost is $45 per person. With November comes the idea of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is often a time celebrated with our families, but what about our friends? Now is the time! Join us for a weekend dedicated to giving thanks for all of the friends we have made. Halloween Party The congregation Halloween Party will be at 3:00pm, on October 28 th. Note the change of time for this event. Mission Center Fall Conference Theme: Awaken from Illusion Nov. 3-5 at Saginaw Valley State University Scripture Focus: "The earth, lovingly created as an environment for life to flourish, shudders in distress because creation=s natural and living systems are becoming exhausted from carrying the burden of human greed and conflict.
