1 La Habra Moose Lodge No MOOSE TALK The Friendly Little Lodge Website: lahabramoose.com April 2010 Volume 796 Issue No. 216 Governor's Message As my term as Governor comes to its end I am going to take this moment here to thank those who have supported me throughout. I want to say how much I have enjoyed the opportunity to serve. It has been a challenging and rewarding experience participating in the growth of our lodge. Last month, we had a fantastic turnout for St. Patrick s Day. I must thank those who volunteered..frances Casey, Debbie Balthazar and Roger Jones. I could not have done it without them. In other news, Rick Balthazar and I just returned from Reno attending a mandatory Moose Convention. We both learned much as we participated in the day-long meetings. Thank-you once again. Sincerely - RPD.. With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us finish the work; we are in.abraham Lincoln Administrator s Corner Four years ago on February 10 th our Lodge had posted on the front door a 72 hour notice to vacate the premises. We owed $18,500 in back rent, over $5,000 in current bills and $26,000 to Moose International. We had a diminishing membership of around 80 members. I asked Shabbir Saifee if he would consider giving us two weeks to come up with a business plan which would outline a possible solution to start making a real effort to get out of the mess before he foreclosed on the La Habra Moose Lodge. He granted us two weeks to the day to start paying him for the current rent on a two week basis along with a small payment to the past debt. The business plan I proposed to Shabbir stated that we would try with all of our effort to start a WOTM Charter. It took two years to get the WOTM their Charter. The WOTM now have over 140 members along with 210 LOOM members making our Lodge over 350 strong. Our back rent is completely paid off and we have been current with Shabbir for the past two years. Our current rent with our property tax is $2, every two weeks or 14 days. Our Moose International dept is under $15,000 and going down every month. The LOOM started a $10 per day savings account a couple of years ago and have not missed one day adding to the savings account. We pay all of our bills on time. The WOTM have showed an increase in their account every year of their existence. Aloong with the financial success of the Lodge, we have made many improvements to make the La Habra Moose Lodge one of the nicest Lodges anywhere. I would like to thank each and every person who has been a Board of Officer over the last 6 years, and each and every WOTM who has been an officer of the WOTM. These are people who truly are concerned about what Moose is all about. I would like to thank all of our members who come and participate in Lodge dinners and functions. I would like to thank each and every member who signs new and qualified members to our Lodge. I would especially like to thank our bartenders who without them we would not be so successful. To the few who come to complain, I d like to say get involved and enjoy all of the nice people and functions we have to offer. We listen to corrective criticism at the General Meetings. Thank you all. I am personally proud of the La Habra Moose Lodge and all of its fine members. 2 Words from the Senior Regent It has been a pleasure serving my term as Senior Regent from May 2009 to April 2010 for the La Habra Lodge. It s been very challenging, but I ve had an incredibly wonderful time working with all of you and helping raise funds for so many local charities and Moose Charities. I have many great memories of all our events this past year: Visiting Sammy Strickland, our Sunshine Child at Mooseheart and the Convention in Chicago, Reno Moose Convention, Flag Retirement Ceremony and Casino Night for the Military, Bowling and Putting for Mooseheart, Angel Game, Ho-Down, Corn Festival Parade, Karaoke Event, Christmas Ornament Exchange, Angel Tree, Adopt-a-Family and HB Youth Shelter, Farkle Tournament, Cake Auctions, Entertainment by our very talented performers & bands, Friday Night Dinners, Wednesday Night Tacos, Sunday Breakfasts and much more!! Amazing how many things we did!!! I thank my Board of Officers (you re awesome), Appointed Officers and Chairmen immensely for everything, being at the (sometimes long) meetings, working the events, decorating, and for all of their support. Thank you also to my mentors, Mel Powers and Brenda Grani for finding me the answers whenever I had questions. THANK YOU to all WOTM and LOOM who have been so generous to dedicate your time and/or make donations supporting our Moose and local charities. You are all so AWESOME!! I could not have completed my duties as Senior Regent without your help all year long, and I really appreciate all of your support! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Congratulations to the new WOTM Board of Officers, Appointed Officers and Chairmen. We are going to have another spectacular year ahead us with your new Senior Regent, Kimberly Young and new Junior Regent, Theresa De Leon. They will be excellent in their new positions! Thank you to all of our new members for signing up and participating in the meetings and fundraising events.
