2 Page 2 MUSINGS from the Pastor February 2019 Dear friends in Christ at Grue and Peace, Every day. As you may recall, in my message for the annual report I mentioned how Martin Luther encouraged reciting the Commandments, the Creed and the Lord s Prayer every day. And you may have noticed how I ve added a section of the Small Catechism to our worship each week. There s a reason beyond just reviewing the teaching of the Commandments, Creed and Lord s Prayer. Like the very first words we learn when learning how to talk or how to write, these words are building blocks of all our listening and reading, all our speaking and writing as Christians. They are the ABCs of our faith. Reciting the Commandments daily beginning with the promise of the First Commandment I AM the Lord your God prepares your ears to hear all your true God s promises. Repeating the Creed every day opens your ears to hear the story of God creating and rescuing and liberating you in Jesus. Reciting the Lord s Prayer every day opens your lips to life-giving conversation with God. Practicing these words every day equips us for life with God and with the people God has placed in our lives. When we recite them every day, we re practiced and ready to listen to God and respond in prayer. When we use these every day, we re practiced and ready to speak to the people in our lives as neighbors, as sisters and brothers in Christ (not strangers or threats or enemies). I encourage you to take home each week s Sunday bulletin and use the featured section of the Small Catechism each day through the week. If you want a copy of the Small Catechism for your phone, an app is available from Augsburg Fortress through the App Store and Google Play. We also have copies of By Heart: Conversations with Martin Luther s Small Catechism for those who want a resource for personal study. This is as important for your spiritual health as a daily walk is for your physical health. Set an alarm to remind yourself. Incorporate it into your daily routine. Take this walk of faith every day. Pastor Marcus Kunz

4 Page 4 PEACE WELCA NEWS This my first article as your Peace WELCA President and I will begin with thanking several people for their continued service to our parish. First, I would like to thank everyone for their support and kind words as I start 2019 as your president. Please know that just because I hold the title doesn't mean that I know everything or won't be asking for help or need reminders. Secondly, I need to thank Val Fick for all the support she has given me. She does so many things for our parish behind the scenes; she is going to continue as the Director for funerals. Val is great example of someone who continues to serve, so others may be served. Also, I want to thank Dee Holte for taking the position of VP and to Cindy Vorland who will continue as WELCA Treasure. It's so awesome to have these veterans by my side. Next I want to thank the Team Leaders who have once again stepped up to the plate to make sure our weekly service assignments are filled and special monthly church duties are completed. We are making a change in the past you were a Group Leader and part of a group, we are now going to be on Teams and have a Team Leader. These Team Leaders are an awesome group of people; Craig and Carol Koefod Team #1, Frank and Janet Novak Team #2, Russ and Darcy Sorenson Team #4 and Team #3 still doesn't have a Team Leader, please let me know if you would be willing to be a leader for Team #3. Our WELCA Ladies Winter Celebration Brunch was held on January 5th. The program and decorations did not disappoint. The event was organized by Karen Nelson and Donna Grover, the theme was; The Tale of Three Trees. Readers; Carol Koefod and Gene Jensen, Music; Peace Praise Band, and Devotions; Val Fick. A very special Thank You needs to be given to the following people for their preparation and serving of the food, and outstanding help cleaning up; Larry, Heidi, and Benton Grove, Tim and Sandy Cunningham, Tonya Nelson, and Jeff and Wendy Merrick. Please check your church mailbox for the 2019 WELCA yearbook and an information sheet. We are updating phone numbers and adding addresses, to make it easier for our Team Leaders to contact their team members. As we enter the month of February remember the more we all serve the more service we as a church can give. God's blessings to all this winter season. Brenda Johnson WELCA president GRUE WELCA NEWS Grue woman met at Good Samaritan Care Center in Battle Lake. Joyce Evavold was able to join us today. We were happy she was able to join us. Lesson today was on Wise Women who learned to make choices in their life with help of God. Thank you were read from the donation at Christmas. We are still making jean quilts, so jeans are always welcome. Our next meeting will be held on Feb. 19th at 1pm at the Ashby Assisted Living with Val Fick hosting. Coffee and cookies were served following the meeting and good fellowship was had by all. Your Sister in Christ Hazel Torgrimson
