2 CENTRAL THOUGHTS April 2017 Leading Ahead Reflection on Being Resurrection People Lent is five-sevenths complete. Palm Sunday and Easter are fast approaching. Over the past five weeks we have considered Luther s Small Catechism and some of Matthew s Gospel stories and the teachings of Jesus. We have heard about turning the other cheek, the difference between worry and steward-style planning, serving our communities AND beyond our communities, and forgiveness (so far at the time of writing this). We will also hear about the main point of the crucifixion and resurrection: the unconditional love of God as a gift, with the need for us to respond to it by listening to Jesus teachings which tell us about God s love. As you celebrate this season of joy and peace, please take time to really consider the events that culminated in and from the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Consider our brokenness put Jesus on the cross and how Jesus willingly took that brokenness to the cross and restored it to the wholeness and newness that is now ours, through his being raised by God. That resurrection is what we can experience each day. The wholeness, the restoration, the newness, the forgiveness the new beginnings and vitality that are ours through the unconditional offer of God s love in Christ. That s the way it will always be for Resurrection People. Over the next few months I would like to see how our ministries as individual congregations and as a parish, as older members, as young adults, older youth, as younger people, can engage our mission in Christ even more deeply, substantially and consequentially. We do not worry but we planning as we want to be go stewards of EVERYTHING God has placed in our hands. Page 2 Have a blessed Eastertide. 5 Page 5 PEACE WELCA NEWS End of March Greetings to the Women of Peace Lutheran, I think March came in like a lion so should go out as a lamb or so they say in any event, Spring is right around the corner. Kindness is one of the Fruits of the Spirit, Galations 5: I encounter examples of kindness every day but wanted to highlight and share an experience earlier this month. Even though Frank and I have been members here for about five years, I had never prepared for communion. I had served but not prepared the trays with wine and plates with the wafers. I had been told it was easy you just need to follow the directions So, I went to church the afternoon of Ash Wednesday with a bit of nervousness but intent to do what was necessary to prepare for the evening s services. Right away, I saw the page of directions and they seemed pretty straightforward. I located the containers, plates and juice but where was the wine? There was a locked cabinet and assumed the wine must be in there but where was the key to unlock the cabinet? It made sense that the key location would not be on the directions but like other tasks that some say are easy just follow the directions this particular task now was causing a bit of panic. I looked in the cupboards in that main area but did not see a key hanging so thought I would make a call. I not only got the answer to my question but, within minutes, I had an angel that came along side and worked with me to complete the entire project. This was truly an amazing act of KINDNESS and GENEROSITY and made the process so much more enjoyable. I also felt very blessed that someone would do this. I share this as an excellent example of KINDNESS but also made me wonder how many other members might want to be more involved with church activities but don t know how. There are many hands each week that play a role in preparing the church for services, preparing lessons for Sunday School, preparing the bulletins, preparing coffee, music and yes, communion preparation. If you are one such member who would like to be more involved in some way, we would welcome you with open arms. We want and need new people to get involved. We want to hear what you are thinking and will gladly include you in your area of interest. Appreciation goes out to those who volunteered and greeted, baked, served and prepared communion and all the other things that go on behind the scenes in the month of March. Thank you! Saturday, April 8 th, is our Spring Bake Sale. Please bring your tried and true recipes plus those new ones you saw on the internet and Facebook. Bring them to the Senior Center downtown Ashby before 8:30am or drop them off at church the day or evening before. Our sale is from 8:30-11:00 and will be serving coffee and individual rolls so stop by for a bit of fellowship too. Spread the word! We re in the middle of Lent and would love to hear any stories of how your heart has been changed or any kind of story you care to share about God moving in your life. Your Sister in Christ, Janet Novak
