2 Page 2 CENTRAL THOUGHTS September 2017 THE RE- S OF GOD And the one who was seated on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new." (Rev 21:5a) I write this as I attempt to clear my desk for a week of vacation. Ironic! As everyone else is beginning to think about settling into a new school year schedule, football and volleyball practices and scrimmages, I am looking ahead to some self-care time. I am looking to renew my strength and focus for the year ahead. Hopefully, you have, over the course of the summer, been able to renew your strength, and perhaps you have even been made new. For me, the time will be used to close the computer, renew relationships with Lisa and my grandkids. It means discovering local communities and walking through state parks. Some of it will be spent just kicking back and listening to the birds and watching them at the feeders along with watching the chipmunks and the squirrels and the rabbits go through the yard. Go fishing! It doesn t mean I have forgotten you. I do this week for your sake as well as mine. To regenerate, re-energize, recapitulate to be renewed as God will use this time of rest to make, for me, all things new. In that newness, I pray that I may return filled and ready to continue with you and serve you in your walk of faith. God grant us all, new beginnings. Youth will be invited to sign and bring their covenants to worship on Sunday, September 17th. Sunday School teachers will be installed on that day as well. FAITH PARTNERS A very important part of the confirmation years is developing a relationship with an experienced Christian. We invite each student to choose someone from the congregation, who will spend time with them talking and learning about the faith. We ask that each pair spend a minimum of three sessions together in a year, and the adult is asked to submit a short report of the experience. You don t need to have all the answers, just a willingness to listen.

12 Page 12 PEACE WELCA NEWS Hello Women of Peace, Thank you to Teresa Ohren and her group for serving in August. It s September and we know there will be temperature changes, trees turning colors and schedules get busier especially if you have children. Many households take on new routines. My daughter is now 26 but I LOVED getting ready for school. There was always the backpack and it needed to be very specific but one didn t know until she saw it. Although school supplies seemed to be handled differently these days, I enjoyed picking up the lined notebooks, #2 pencils, etc. and, of course, a box of tissue. High school wasn t quite as fun and supplies were a bit more expensive but yet enjoyable each year. Open House was always enjoyable and you could feel both the excitement and anxiousness of the students and parents. Teachers Were The Best! For those of you who teach and/or work at our schools, blessings and gratitude! As I mentioned in last month s newsletter, our Fall Bizarre has been moved to Saturday, October 28 th. I hope it is on your calendar. How would you like to be involved? Like last year, our Group Leaders will take the lead on the individual areas. As an example, Group One leaders Carol Koefod and Kathy Hammer will be in charge of our bakery. Val Fick will lead the Quilt Raffle process. I will be calling the other group leaders to confirm your interest. If any of you have a desire to lead, have a new idea or just want to talk about it, please call me at or catch me at church. This is our biggest fund raiser and requires many hands and much coordination so hoping we can count on you to make it enjoyable and successful. Teresa Magnuson is creating and making the quilt for our raffle this year. As many of you know, she is well known for her creativity and quality work. Below is a photo of the fabric. Your Sister in Christ, Janet Novak
