I still think of them as "kids". I appreciate all your help though the years on this project. -Marie Wensink A Parish Remembers On Sunday, May 26 th, St. Louis Parish will honor all our past and present parishioners who served our country in peacetime or during war, either active or reserve military. We ask that you meet in the back of church. We will also be remembering out deceased Parishioners, who served our country, by placing their names on a banner. Please join us for mass at the cemetery, Memorial Day, May 27 th, at 9:00 a.m. The town parade will be at 1:00 p.m. It will start at the school and end at the Milton Twp. Cemetery. A program will be held at the cemetery and a community pot luck will follow at the Custar Legion. All are welcome! 2 A Note From Father Happy Easter!!!! Peace be with you. were the very first words of our Risen Lord. He came to bring Peace in our life. Peace I give you not the kind the world gives you today more than ever we stand in need of peace. The whole world is enveloped by evil of violence, hatred and unforgiveness. Wars and terrorist activities have become the normal order of the day. In our personal lives too, we face so much of violence and evil. Our souls long for Peace. Our Risen Lord is the only source of true and lasting peace in our lives and in the world. Lets us surrender to the Lord our lives and also offer prayers for peace in the world. As I wish you a very Blessed Easter, I assure you of my prayers. God Bless you! I am also excited to share with you some news from St. Louis. Last year we had put together two fund raisers for Blacktop and Windows for the Rectory. I am happy inform you that we have met our goal for both projects and the projects have been executed successfully. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting St. Louis. May God bless your generosity! As I complete my two years at St. Louis this year, I realize that our maintenance needs are high and the fund raisers for the maintenance would continue for next four years. It is my sincere desire to end the fund raisers one day. And I foresee that happening in another four years when we have completed our major maintenance projects like tuck up on all three buildings and roof over the church. 3 REVERSE RAFFLE SCHOOL DAYS!! Thank you to everyone who supported our Reverse Raffle and Silent Auction. It was such a fun night supporting a great cause! Because of your support, we made a profit of $12, We are so very grateful for the generosity of our parish family and community! A very special thank you to Steve Powell for being the emcee for the evening, Cathy Hanna, chairperson for the raffle and Katie Mahlman for assisting her, to the many volunteers who helped with set up, to Nazareth Hall for providing the hall and to everyone who purchased a ticket and donated to the auction! Mark your calendars for next years event, Saturday, March 21 st! (Please note, this is a different date than what was announced at the raffle.) St. Louis PTAA Officers, Luann Flowers, president, Jennie Tussing, vice president, Jill Young, secretary, Sarah Schroder, treasurer. WATCH OUR GARDEN GROW! We recently planted seeds and are watching, waiting patiently and hoping they grow! This is part of our school accreditation project. We are going to plant flowers in containers and put them around our school, church and community to help beautify our neighborhood! Congratulations to Clare Tussing! Clare is our 6 th grade graduate! Clare is the daughter of Jennie and Pat Tussing. She will continue her education at Bowling Green. We will miss you Clare! Best wishes as you continue to learn and grow! God Bless! 4 SCHOOL DAYS CONTINUED!! St. Louis School Spring Music Program Tuesday, May 14th 7:00 pm in the Church. A Bench for Caps Update We haven t forgotten about getting our benches for the playground. We are grateful to have 2 volunteers offer to make the 6 hour trip to Evansville, Indiana to take all the caps by trailer and pick up the benches. Trying to arrange scheduling and weather didn t work out so well over the winter as planned. We will have them soon! SCHOOL FUND DRIVE The St. Louis School Advisory Committee would like to thank everyone for their 2018 contribution to our annual fund drive. We were able to meet our goal and are very grateful for the generosity of our St. Louis family. We are currently running our 2019 Fund Drive so if you would like to donate please send your donation to St. Louis Church, P.O. Box 125, Custar, OH or put it in an envelope marked "fund drive" in the Sunday collection. Your financial support is hard at work in our school and monies from the fund drive help with the expenses and maintenance of the school. -St. Louis School Advisory Committee D.A.R.E Graduates! Our 5 th and 6 th grade students graduated from the DARE program in February. Officer Eric Reynolds taught the kids about DARE and always stayed to eat lunch with all the students when he could. What a terrific program 4

Pray for your pastors. Purple: What is your favorite thing god has made? Pray for creation. Red: Who do you know that needs help? Pray for them. Parish History Lesson- Ladies Auxillary of Knights of St. John were once a very active & Vital organization in our parish. They divided the parish in 5-6 sections and appointed several people to check on the sick and help them. They had monthly meetings with entertainment. In 1957 there were 56 members, many of the names listed were our grandparents and relatives. On November 15, 1958 the committee was Marguerite Feehan, Maxine Junk, Irene Maas, Marjorie Neiling, Agnes (Puls) Durliat, Ida Lause, and Emma drummer. They hosted the fall Hunter s Dinner. The Thanksgiving menu in 1948 included 85 chickens and 50 pounds of beef, noodles (18 dozen eggs), pie, potatoes, corn, lettuce, buns, and ten pounds of coffee. In 1950, for the Summer Supper, also called the Summer Social (now the Festival), they bought bingo prizes, including six French Fryers ($1.75), three combination crocks ($1.00), two card tables ($2.40), three teddy bears ($3.25), twelve indicant blankets ($2.75), and a lot of thirty other prizes. There are notes that indicate they held fundraisers with the Altar Society and shared the profits. The last meeting was January 3 rd, Six members were present; Julia Ann & Emma Drummer, Agnes Durliat, Louise Metzger and Helen Maas. Festival News-Festival -St. Louis Festival Committee is actively soliciting for the 2019 event! Please keep your eye out in the mail for a letter if you have donated in the past. If you have not donated before, and would like to, do not hesitate! If you pledge/donate, monetarily, your name will be listed on the back of the "Big Ticket", unless you choose to remain anonymous. We are also accepting items for the front of the ticket as well as the 8:00 Raffle. We are also seeking two people to join the 2019 Festival Committee. The volunteer position is a three year commitment It may seem like a scary experience but we promise it comes together rather smoothly and three years fly by fast. 6 St Louis Altar Society Flower Sale The Altar Rosary Society will be having our annual flower sale starting today April 6 th thru Sunday April 28 th. Please give all orders to Diane Wensink ( ) or Dianne Hoile ( ). Pick up will be Saturday May 4 th from 8:30 11 am in the St Louis School parking lot. Please pay for your flowers when turning in the order form. Please make checks payable to Altar Rosary Society. Additional hanging baskets will also be available at the school starting at 9am on Saturday and at the Cinco de Mayo supper on Saturday evening. All proceeds will help cover the cost of the altar needs. Please share your order form with a friend. Don t forget Mother s Day is Sunday May 12 th. 7 Altar Rosary Society- Altar Rosary Society Through the winter months, invited parishioners to join in on a monthly Drinking with the Saints: Sinner s Guide to a Holy Happy Hour. Abby Wensink led the group each month as we sampled unique drinks and learned about the Saint for the day. The final evening we celebrated St. Patrick with an Irish Ale Cocktail, Irish coffee, and a baked potato bar. The weather wasn t always the best, but the fellowship and lessons learned were enjoyable. The annual ARS Candlelight Dinner was Monday, December 17th. A delicious dinner was catered by Alex s Catering. Abby Wensink made Christmas punch from Drinking with Saint Nick: Christmas Cocktails for Sinners and Saints and shared the story of St. Nicholas. The guests played a Christmas game and enjoyed the evening. Look for ARS hosted events throughout this year. Some suggestions were Our Lady of Lourdes, Genoa; Our Lady of Fatima, Indian Lake; Holy Rosary Cathedral. Thank you to the ladies of St. Patrick, Providence parish for hosting a spring retreat. St. Louis ARS is to host a fall retreat. If you d like to be part of the planning team, please contact an ARS officer. Due to a very wet fall and so far, a very wet spring, the tile work is still waiting to be done to the back section. Work is currently in progress on updating all the records and cemetery plots so there is an accurate and current map. We ask that any winter decorations be removed, as spring maintenance and clean-up will soon begin! Thank you! The St. Louis Parish website is updated regularly. Bookmark for convenient access First Communion Please pray for Allaynna May, Faith Henry, Phoebe Lirot, and Taylor Maas as they prepare to make their First Communion on May 5 th. These four lovely ladies also celebrated their first Reconciliation on April 8 th. The Sacraments are Jesus Christ s presence in us.
