Mark related Charles' harrowing experience in the Nazi concentration camps, and his rescue by the American soldiers. Noting that his father could not speak about his painful memories until he was in According to Alex and Jacqui, "Love Russia is a charity that is committed to improving the lives of thousands of orphaned and abandoned children and young people living in Russia. We have been involved in over 600 projects that focus mainly on children ranging from birth to 18 but also provide care for the elderly and those that are disabled or have learning difficulties. Our aim is to provide relief of poverty, suffering and distress, by demonstrating practical compassion." his 80's, when one of his grandchildren innocently asked him about his concentration camp tattoo. Charles' mission was to show that it is possible to rise above such horrors and reach out to others in love and forgiveness. "Make it your practice to love yourself and to love everybody," Charles would say often. "Only then can we find peace." Mark added that his mother, Libby, the love of Charles' life for 58 years, was the inspiration for Charles in his life's story of tolerance and love.

2 Page2 Guests: Thousand Oaks Rotary Meeting November 1, 2012 Program: November 15th ROTARY FOUNDATION President Susan Murata opened the meeting and introduced Martin Anderson, who introduced Tamara Cambell for the Moment of Inspiration. Dan Overton led us in singing "God Bless America." Chris Evans introduced visiting Rotarian Jim McGee, and Jeff Borenstein's guests Blanche Kravitz, his sister and her husband Mark, Tony Kourounis' guest, and former member, Mark Burson, Monica Walker's guest Natalie Bradley, Dave Friedl's guest Cathy Maslan, and Russ Cornwall's guest Matt Michaels. President Susan noted that Steve Stanley was still in a wheelchair, Felix Masci's wife Barbara was still undergoing treatment, and Dennis May was out of the hospital. Those fined were Larry Baker, Jim Friedl, Jeff Borenstein, and Jere Robings.

3 Page3 Announcements: Vicki Arndt asked for 10 members new to the Prison Reading Project to sign up for the December 7th session from 8 AM to Noon. After the new members sign, available spaces will be open to those who participated before. Jeff Borenstein assured us that he did not lose the World Series board this time. Winners were Lee Ladd, Chris Steele (twice since the score for the last two games was the same), and Martin Anderson. Patty Contini congratulated everyone for their most successful Street Fair. We made $80,000, she noted. She thanked members whose organizations and practices were sponsors, including Feliz Wang, Norm Nagel, and Chris Kimball. She also thanked the committee members for their hard work in planning and promoting the event, KT Connor for PR, Mario Diaz for insurance considerations, Daryl Reynolds and Carol Robinson who attended every meeting and lent their special knowledge and Street Fair experience, and of course, Mario Contini and Larry Baker for their ongoing support. Patty also gave special mention to the two new members, Rick Hand and Steve Hoffman, who contributed so much. She concluded by asking all the members to fill out the survey on the tables. 4 Page4 Happy $$$ (SKIPPED IN THE INTEREST OF TIME) Visiting Rotarian Jim McGee was permitted to contribute $2 and thank the club for its devotion to the Red Cross. In addition to naming members who volunteer in person he acknowledged contributions in other ways as well. Highlighting the devastation wrought by Superstorm Sandy, and Sue Engler's pending trip to New York with the Red Cross, he praised the club for its commitment. NEW MEMBER INDUCTION Karen Furnari presented Fred Lindberg, a transfer from the Westlake Village Rotary Club, to President Susan. Susan inducted Fred, reminding him that we can make him a member but only he can make himself a Rotarian through his commitment and service. "We know you espouse the Rotary ideals," she added. "It's up to you to translate them into action." She then charged us with the duty to make Fred feel welcome.. PSST!! Know how many pints of blood we gave last month? One score + five! Think of the people we've helped. Good going!
