Anne Bowman Footprints The first set were stumbling. On occasion the mark of a knee fell where a foot should have been. The other two gathered around Deeper where they lifted her up again. But at the entrance of the garden they were all heavy and slow Weighed down and smudged, sliding through the dust Full with grief and dark with mourning. They lay on top of the sandal prints from an earlier evening. Ones even more deeply disturbed by grief Heavy and deep in the dust, but now scattered by those that came after them. Not just soft prints of the women, but hard marks left by the boots of soldiers That went up to the tomb, then paced back and forth, churning the soil Then the mark of their flight, each in a different direction- And one set that did not go in, gently laid, coming out after them. There were strange marks on either side of the tomb, Like those from wings, barely brushing the earth. They lay just beside the forgotten jar of burial spices, scattered on the ground. The women had stood there, startled. But now the footprints fairly danced. No longer heavy, as if they had grown wings themselves. They ran back the way they came, the soil shaped in new ways, Waiting for the next ones to come and see. -Pastor Daniel <><

6 Church Board Meeting Minutes March 13, 2016, 6:30 pm The following members were present at the board meeting on March 13, 2016: Neil Houff, Bo Hammond, Pastor Daniel House, Pastor Rebecca House, Ellen Ashby, Chris Auville, Ryan Braziel, Jeannie Garber, Barbara Glovier, Tori Heatwole, Tim Holcomb, Ed Huffman, Peggy Huffman, Jennifer Landes, Karen Meyerhoeffer, Sharon Reich, Matt Ruff, Suanne Scrogham, Carol Wilson, Keith Wilson, Cole Scrogham, Church Administrator and Tom Dodson, representative from the Finance and Personnel Committee. Neil Houff, Chairman, opened the meeting with devotion and prayer. Pastor Daniel shared the following questions with the focus teams: ~Do we want to have Palms for Palm Sunday (Worship Team) and if so do we have a special connection to order them at this late date? Chris Auville volunteered Jessica Hall to order Palms for Pleasant Valley this year. ~An interest that has been brought to his attention in seeing a Children s Choir again, (Life Development) he feels that it is important to get children involved in worship and learns to worship. Jennifer Landes said that she has a contact of someone in the church that has expressed an interest and she would also volunteer to help this person if needed. ~He understands that there was a lot of enthusiasm in the Dinner Theatre that was held in the past and that it was a great outreach in the community and would like to see it brought back. Daniel was involved in theatre at Bridgewater and he has contacts in the Valley and would like to look into working on it in the near future. Keith Wilson shared that there is still $3, seed money from the Dinner Theatre account. ~Both Daniel and Rebecca encourage communication within the church office for them to know what activities are going on, such as home Bible studies and other activities within the Church body that are sometimes not on the church calendar. This would be helpful for them to know, as they would like to attend some of these activities. ~As a matter of information, Daniel and Rebecca will be on vacation April 1 & 2, Treasurer s report - Keith Wilson: Checking account $226,898.00, Committed Funds $25, As a highlight for Daniel and Rebecca s benefit there is $18, in the NYC funds, Youth mission funds $2,458.00, Dinner Theatre funds $3, and Haiti funds $1, Neil followed with a break down of where some of the collected funds go. The money jar that is collected each Sunday morning from the children is currently going to the Disaster Relief (he would not change that until what is currently collected for that purpose), proceeds from corn or soy beans that are planted and harvested is split out between different funds. And proceeds from the Jimmy Fortune concert went to the Verona Food Pantry and Love, Inc. The Board decides each year where these proceeds go. Neil announced that there was a small clerical error on the calculation of the 11% on the pastor s pension plan on Daniel s contact that Tom Dodson caught, so a new contract will be drawn up. Another item that needs attention is, the Church designates a certain amount of money as a housing allowance on our Pastor s contracts and Daniel and Rebecca can self designate part of their salary toward their housing, but it needs to be approved by this board. Daniel and Rebecca are wishing to designate $7, each for their housing allowance, (this does not change anything or any amount on our budget report). Motion was made to accept their self designated allowance, this was seconded and following discussion carried by the Board. Tom Dodson from the Finance and Personnel Committee passed out updated records of agreements for paid positions to the Worship Focus Team Chairman, Matt Ruff. Cole Scrogham shared that he has a couple of little things he is work on and that this is his last board meeting as Church Administrator. continued

7 Focus team reports: Sharon Reich - Ministry-Thanked everyone for their help on Pastor Ron s Appreciation Sunday, and she felt that it was a very meaningful day. Peggy Huffman Evangelism/Missions: More people are needed to sign up for the Valley Mission s 3 rd Saturday meal. Normally 50 to 75 people are feed. Suggestions are to contact Sunday school classes and small study groups. The WRE children will be having their spring concert (she believes) on the second Sunday of April at Fort Defiance High School. Carol Wilson Discipleship: Maxine Shreckhise has offered to hold a home bible study at her house on Monday s at 3:00 p.m. Tori Heatwole has contacted Stan Dueck, contact person for the Vital Ministry Journey and their committee will be meeting with him on April 12 th to discuss the church wide bible study. Matt Ruff- Worship: Michael Scrogham has been hired as our full time Contemporary Worship Leader. Their committee is looking into purchasing new mic s. Old Business: It was brought up in discussion that there is a correction to the January 30, 2016 Board Retreat minutes under the Pictorial Directory. Correction to the minutes was that Carol Wilson of the Discipleship Focus Team did not volunteer to take this project on. Bo Hammond had volunteered to contact the Gimberts on extending the Wi-Fi and getting TV s to the downstairs Sunday school classes. He understands that they need to get a plan for what they think it will cost and who can actually do it before they take it to the Stewardship Team. He said he volunteered to help coordinate it because it had a level of Sunday school involvement. Ellen Ashby asked the members to please try and read over the minute to bring corrections before the minutes are approved as read. Cole Scrogham shared that he had bought software that would track giving and attendance and create its own pictorial directory a few years ago and that has been sitting on a shelf not being used. He suggested not doing anything until our Pastors look into the present software and/or new software to see if they are on board with it and have looked into the security management involved. It was suggested that looking into this software would fall under the Stewardship Team. Tim Holcomb of the Stewardship Team, said they would contact a few tech people in the Church to come up with a plan on what can be done within the Church building on the Wi-Fi and sound issues and they would work on looking over a software plan. Matt Ruff said that Jackie Woolf is working on options and prices of speaker updates. Neil reminded everyone that Sara Houff is trying to keep the website updated if she is informed of information. After some discussion of who should be contacted with information updates to be sent out by and/or put on the website, it was suggested that Anne Bowman be informed of these updates and she should then contact Sara Houff to make the same on the website. There was also an issue of the Church sign out front not being updated and we were informed that the person who has the key and letters has been out of town on vacation. Pastor Daniel was asked to close with prayer. Members were dismissed to meet with their focus teams. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted Ellen Ashby, Church Clerk
