4 MISSION OPPORTUNITITES *September We will be going with Cornerstone Fellowship Church to Victoria, Texas, outside of Houston to do mission work. We will be assisting Samaritan s Purse. Housing and meals will be provided. The only cost will be meals during the time of travel and a portion of the gas cost. *October We are planning to take a group to Conyers, Georgia to do mission work. We will leave on Sunday afternoon and return on Friday evening. All the details on the type of work we will be doing are being worked out at this time. However, construction work will be some of what we will be doing. We will have everything finalized in the next couple of weeks. Call the church office if interested in either of these trips. 5 Back To Church/Sunday School Welcome to Back To Church/Sunday School Sunday! I hope you brought a friend and food. Once we complete the morning worship hour, we will go downstairs for a delicious meal and fellowship. Tables will be lined up down the hall with numerous choices. We all need to exit the sanctuary from the back and go down the stairs to the first floor. It s going to be an exciting day! The Need To Stay Connected To The Church From the time Jesus told the first disciples at Caesarea Philippi that he was going to build His Church (Mt 16:17) to the time after Pentecost when God s Word says about the first Christians: Everyday they continued to meet together in the temple courts (Acts 2:46), to the time Paul greeted Priscilla and Aquila and the church that meets at their house (Rom 16:5), to this very morning when we drove to church and entered this building for Bible Study and worship, Christians have connected with each other in what we call church. According to Ephesians 4:16, our connection with other believers in what we call church is essential to our transformation from Christians into disciples. Here s the way Ephesians 4:16 puts it, From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. The comparison of the church to a body is a common New Testament imagery. And the parallels between the church and a body are striking. Just as the human body experiences normal growth when all the parts work in harmony, so does the church in general and the individual members of the church in particular. Christ is the head of the church. He is the one from who the energy comes for growth. However, notice that this growth comes As each part does its work. Each individual part of the body, when functioning correctly, generates energy that also helps to build up the church. So here is the picture. As we carry out our function as a part of the body of Christ, the body of Christ grows, and as a result of the growth of the body, individual believers grow as well. That s why we must REMAIN CON- NECTED TO THE CHURCH! This seems like a no-brainer, and yet from the early days of the church it has been a problem. In Hebrews 10:25, the Bible says: Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another and all the more as you see the day approaching. Isn t that an amazing verse! We cannot live our Christian lives solo! Withdrawal from worship/sunday School will prevent us from being transformed from a Christian into a disciple. Therefore, we must stay involved, committed to our church. Bro. Larry

That feeling of arrival like sitting down to a homemade meal with your closest friends brings a sense of inclusion like nothing else can. Everyone, no matter where they are in life, needs to know they belong, because something inside each of us longs to be pursued, to be valued. The Church is not a building. It s a community of people brought together to experience God s love and purpose. Sunday School is a wonderful way to connect and to belong. At FBC, we have classes for all ages. To give an offering is to give above our tithe to support other ministry endeavors not completely covered in the general fund of our church.
