5 Thoughts For The Week I hope everybody had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hopefully, all of us were able to get a little rest. It s great for all of us to be back in God s House once again to lift up our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let s focus on the following thoughts for the week. The lengthy holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas merges people together and brings relationships to the forefront. Pastor and author David Henderson has written a thought-provoking truth that s worthy of extensive reflection. He states, Relationships are inherently inefficient. They can involve a lot of seemingly wasted time where it appears that nothing of significance or substance is being accomplished. Henderson warns, A concern for efficiency and productivity, for making every minute count, can lead us to view others as resources to be used or as interruptions to be avoided rather than people to be valued. Paradoxically, God used much of this inefficiency to make us more like Christ. (Tranquility, David Henderson, 2015,p.52) A verse we should be reminded of as we think about relationships May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. (1Thessalonians 3:12) Tis the season for weight gain and Brian Rice has shared some great wisdom that surfaced from his own experience. After putting on a new dress, he wife asked him that deathdefying question: Do I look fat in this dress? Rice pointed to his shirt and deftly replied, Do I look stupid in this shirt? (Reader s Digest, December 2012, p.28) A verse we should be reminded of as we think about the power of words, Set a guard over my mouth, Lord, keep watch over the door of my lips. (Psalm 141:3) Thank you for allowing me to serve as your pastor. This morning we finish up the Book of James. Next week, December 2, we will kick off the Christmas season with the Hanging of the Green in the morning service. Tonight we will continue our series from the Book of Philippians. May God bless! Bro. Larry
6 Kenny Branch, SS Director, It is our desire for every person to become a disciple of Jesus Christ who loves God and people. We believe this happens best in a biblical community in which people are learning God s Word, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, ministering to each other, and serving together. At FBC, Sunday School allows you to connect with people in a similar season of life as you seek to live a lifestyle that looks more and more like Jesus. Join us on Sundays at 9 a.m. to find a class that is right for you. For more info, pick up a Sunday School brochure in the vestibule or outside the church office. Questions?
