YEAR END NOTES FROM YOUR FRIENDLY FINANCIAL MINISTRY ASSISTANT As 2016 comes to a close, please keep this in mind when making your contributions. Contributions can only be claimed in 2016 for tax purposes if received by the church prior to 12/31/16. The only exception is if mailed (postmarked) on or before 12/31/16. Online giving is available on our website at oneontafbc.org. Contributions charged to a credit card before the end of 2016 count for 2016, even if the credit card bill isn t paid until Contribution Statements will be mailed to home addresses the week of January 23, If you have moved or have a change of address please notify the church office. 5 LOTTIE MOON CHRISTMAS OFFERING We continue to receive the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. Have you given? If not, please do so in order for us to do our part in supporting all Southern Baptist Missionaries. Our goal is $22,000. The national goal is $155 million. Envelopes are available in the vestibule and on the table outside the church office. One hundred percent of this offering goes to sending and sustaining missionaries. Let s consider the following facts: Total Field Personnel (11/16).3,651 Field Personnel added Overseas baptisms ,762 Overseas churches ,172 Overseas church membership ,768 New churches ,842 People groups engaged by IMB personnel (8/16) 896 Unreached People Groups not Engaged (8/16).3,060 TENNESSEE DIASTER RELIEF As many of you know, fires ravaged parts of East Tennessee last week. Especially hard hit areas are Pigeon Forge to Gatlinburg. We are wanting to help those affected by these wildfires. If you are interested in contributing monetarily, please write Disaster Relief on your check or envelope. Also, if you have family affected or personally know a family that has been affected, please contact the church office. We would like for the funds collected to benefit them. BUDGET Also, we have two weeks left in the 2016 budget get year and we have some catching up to do. As of December 11: Year to Date Budget Needs.$ 765, Year to Date Receipts.. $ 711, Therefore, we are $54, behind our needed funds. Let s all help with this so all ministries will be funded. CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE Join me on Saturday, Christmas Eve, at 5:00 p.m. for a Carols, Candles and Communion Service. We will begin on time and will be finished before 6:00 p.m. Bring your family and a friend as we will be lifting up our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. SOMETHING TO CONSIDER ABOUT THE PRINCE OF PEACE In 1247, the St. Mary of Bethlehem Hospital was established in London. About 200 years later it became a facility for the mentally ill. The sights and sounds of the patients were far from peaceful as the halls were filled with unsettling noise. Over the years, people shortened the name and referred to this hospital simply as Bethlehem. The dialect of the street transitioned the name to Bethhem, and then over time it became known as Bedlam. The chaos inside the hospital, coupled with the mispronunciation, became the origin of our word bedlam and it s current meaning. In many ways it s a sobering picture of what often happens with our understanding of Christ. Rather than seeing Christ s birth in Bethlehem as hope for care and provision, we distort the story and end up with bedlam instead. Isaiah 9:6 includes Prince of Peace as part of Jesus name because He came to bring us a kind of peace the world cannot give or comprehend (John 14:27). 6 Kenny Branch, SS Director, NEW YEAR, NEW BEGINNINGS Sunday School Leadership Training Mark your calendar now for Sunday, January 8 as we begin the New Year with training to better equip our Sunday School. Jamie Baldwin from the Alabama Baptist State Convention will be our guest. The schedule for the day is as follows: 9:00 a.m. Jamie will be meeting with all ADULT Sunday School Leadership. All teachers will need to arrange for a substitute teacher. Teachers and leadership meet with Sunday School class, take roll and be in the sanctuary by 9:15 a.m. 10:15 a.m. Jamie will speak in the morning worship service. 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided for the entire church. Following lunch, there will be training for Adult teachers led by Jamie Baldwin. The Youth teachers will be trained by Scooter Kellum from ALSBOM. Children leaders will be taught by Beth Baldwin, a Children s Director for many years. Childcare will be provided. Make plans to be a part of this exciting day! During the month of December we will not have Visitation on Sunday afternoons. Contact Sunday School members and encourage one another! To give an offering is to give above our tithe to support other ministry endeavors not completely covered in the general fund of our church. Here at FBCO, we have numerous designated funds to which we can all contribute during the course of a year. During the months of October, November and December we will place emphasis on the Lottie Moon Offering - International Mission emphasis, Nepal Offering - A mission team goes once a year from FBC, Vision Continues - Facility improvements and projects and Hope House - a local mission that provides support for people in Blount County.
