Chuck will be leaving the Parish at the end of June. Changes in assignments are something we are all familiar with, but as Fr. Chuck said in his announcement, his move was not expected for a number of months. Fr. Chuck has served as our Council Chaplain for 9 years in which he presided at most of our annual Officer installations and lead quarterly spiritual discussions. As our Pastor, Fr. Chuck encouraged our Council to debut many new initiatives like the Campout, a revamped Oktoberfest, and the Fish Fry which increased the bonds of our Brotherhood and the community spirit of Christ, Prince of Peace. As we know, our priests are being asked to serve longer and longer because of the shortage among their ranks. Another result of the lack of priests is that they rarely have the opportunity for true vacations or a break from the myriad of roles they play in daily Parish life. In appreciation for a life spent selflessly serving others, our Council will present Fr. Chuck with a gift of $1,500 that he can use towards his sabbatical in the Fall or as he otherwise sees fit. Some of our more experienced Brothers have shared that Parishioners traditionally express their appreciation for a departing priest with a cash gift. Our Council has volunteered to donate and serve the drinks for the Farewell Party on June 24th. Please attend the Farewell Party to join all of the Knights in expressing our appreciation to Fr. Chuck for his 9 years of spiritual leadership. Good luck Fr. Chuck! Vivat Jesus, Dan Schoenekase 1

May 13 was the final Felice Cuores dance for the season, and quite a season it was. This was the 14th season for the dances, and Bill Lukas, Felice Cuores chairman, had some interesting statistics for the entire history of the dances: 122 dances, 21,561 guests entertained, 4,448 volunteers who conservatively racked up about 17,800 service hours! It was also a very good year for Council as well. We had a total of 51 volunteers which was third highest of all of the volunteering councils. We provided 15% of the total volunteers for the year. Those who volunteered for the last dance were Rodney Schnurr, Carl Schiley, Kelly Shannahan, Mat Shannahan, Sam Owen, and Mike Leonard. The Shannahans continue to keep our numbers high providing three of our total of six for the night including their friend Sam Owen. Thank you for all of this year s volunteers. Mike Leonard Council Felice Cuores Representative Knights of Columbus 5 th Sunday Our Knights of Columbus Council 12986, was recognized by Fr. Chuck on Sunday, April 30 th at the 11:30 mass as part of our 5th. Sunday Celebration. We were greeters, ushers, gift bearers, lectors and EMs. In fact, the only roles we didn't do were servers [John & Isabella Budd] and celebrant. The congregation gave the Knights a nice round of applause and we felt very appreciated. If you weren't able to be at this 5th Sunday, then I hope you and your family will be able to attend and participate in our next 5th Sunday Mass on July 30th. As part of the 5 th Sunday celebration, our council hosted the 2 nd annual concert of The Michael Latchison Singers. They performed a rousing, spiritual, uplifting, soul grabbing concert on Sunday afternoon April 30th. The audience was both spellbound and also moving and grooving to the wonderful inspiring music that we listened to. I think our roof must be a few inches higher because the sound was that big. Michael and his group are the oldest (30 years) African American Gospel Singing Group in the greater St. Louis area and their blended harmony of both the young and old was evident from the years that they have been singing together. If you missed the concert this year, don't miss out next year. The KOC will sponsor the 3rd annual Easter Season Gospel Concert during our 50 Days of Easter in 2018 so be looking for the Announcement of the date so you can put it on your calendar. This concert is a must see {AND HEAR} for all age groups and of course, the KOC will also serve refreshments at the reception following the concert in the church basement. Chuck Gilbert. 7 th Annual Bob Chott Family Campout Unfortunately, due to the severe thunderstorms that were forecasted for night of May 20 th, the Bob Chott Annual Family Campout was cancelled. 3

5 Are you an Insurance member of the Knights of Columbus? Did you know that it was our Founders mission to ensure the financial protection and preparedness of every member and their families? In case you have not yet availed yourself of this tremendous opportunity, please read the below article. The Knights of Columbus recorded its 15th consecutive year of insurance sales growth in 2015, issuing more than $8.4 billion of individual life insurance. On November 3, 2015 the Knights of Columbus also surpassed $100 billion of life insurance in force, cementing its position as one of the largest life insurers in North America. I firmly believe that our moral compass has helped guide us through a turbulent decade and an uncertain economy, said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. While other companies were making ethically questionable and unnecessarily risky decisions, we were not.... We stayed true to our principles and knew that if we did the right thing for the right reasons, we would get the results that we wanted and with our 15th consecutive year of sales growth, we have. This year marks the third consecutive year that the Knights of Columbus was named a Worlds Most Ethical Company by the Ethisphere Institute. The Knights was one of only three companies to receive that designation in the life insurance category. In August, the Knights of Columbus also earned the highest possible rating for financial strength, A++ (Superior), by ratings agency A.M. Best for the 40th consecutive year. Utilizing its professional field force of more than 1,500 agents across North America, the Knights of Columbus " which has one of the lowest lapse rates in the industry" offers a product line especially designed to meet the needs of Catholic families. The line provides life insurance, annuities, disability income and long-term care policies. Please contact your local Field Agent David Henry David.Henry@KofC.Org White House Retreat If you haven't made a retreat in a very long time or if it would be your first time then consider joining your fellow Knights and fellow parishioners on a 3 day retreat at the White House Retreat in South County. The retreat begins on Thursday evening, September 21st at 7:00 p.m. and continues until Sunday, September 24th at 2:00 p.m. The White House is situated on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River and is operated by the Jesuits. A lot of renovations, additions and updates have been done over the past year. A physical exercise room has been added this year with two treadmills and one upright stationary bike. The food, the rooms and the camaraderie among the retreatants are fantastic. Information and brochures are available in the church narthex and church side exits. For further information please contact Brother Tom Jones (636) or Brother Jim Thole (636) The beauty of our annuity products lies squarely in their simplicity and security. 6 Mother s Day Roses A Knights of Columbus council can work wonders; in fact, with its many programs, it can help change the community, or neighborhood in which you live. However, a successful K of C program is more than the words you see written here or in any Supreme Council publication. It s more than a suggestion at a meeting. A program needs people taking the initial idea, modifying it to suit specific situations and local needs, then implementing the program in a way that works. If you are not now actively involved in our council activities or if you want to increase your involvement, now is a great time to become an active member. If you are not interested being the director of a program or a committee, you can become a member of a committee. The four Principles upon which the Knights of Columbus were founded are: Charity: - To share our time, talents and treasures with those in need. Unity: To work together to accomplish deeds not achievable individually. Fraternity: To aid our Brother and his family Patriotism: To serve and honor our country in the Church and in the community. All of the Programs and committees are formed around these principles. WRYT 1080 AM KHOJ 1460 AM Evangelizing the Catholic Faith through Radio Mother's Day is always special and the Knights of Christ Prince of Peace have a tradition of offering a rose to every adult lady who attends Saturday/Sunday Mass. This year was no exception. Again, we purchased over 400 roses from Dierbergs and were at each exit after all Masses to greet the mothers of our parish who have done so much now and over the years. In addition, the honored ladies, their husbands, children and friends donated over $400 to Birthright. A big thank you goes out to Fred Denny who coordinated the activity and to the Knights who were at each door for all Masses. In all, 32 Knights and/or their sons are needed to man each exit at all the Masses - not only to distribute the roses but to collect donations for Birthright. Once again, it was a great activity!! Thanks to all the Knights for "stepping up" and making this happen. Dick Schenk Pro-Life Coordinator District 54 and Cardinal Ritter Council 6500 at St. Monica s Parish at Olive Blvd. Creve Coeur, MO will be hosting the Missouri State Council s Regional Pilgrimage on Sunday, June 11, Mass will open the event at 11:30 a.m. In the Church with Lunch at 12:30 p.m. Followed by a procession to the Holy Family Shrine with Rosary & Stations and a closing prayer.
