Welcome We welcome you and hope you are blessed as we magnify and worship God today. Please sign the pew register so we can know of your visit and have an opportunity to get to know you. If today is your first time visiting our church, consider picking up a visitor brochure and gift in the the back of the Sanctuary. If you have questions about a sermon or anything related to the Bible or Christianity, consider joining our pastor in the Library (room across the hallway from the piano side entrance to the Sanctuary) during the Sunday School hour. You are welcome to join us any Sunday. The Library is also available during both Worship services for nursing mothers. And for parents with small children who are unable to use our nursery or sit in the Sanctuary, please take advantage of our Sermon Listening Room, located across the hallway from the organ side entrance to the Sanctuary.
PRELUDE This is Amazing Grace WORSHIP SERVICE JUNE 10, 2018 Who breaks the power of sin and darkness? Whose love is mighty and so much stronger? The King of Glory, the King above all kings. Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder and leaves us breathless in awe and wonder? The King of Glory, the King above all kings. This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love, that you would take my place, that you would bear my cross; you laid down your life that I would be set free. Jesus, I sing for all that you ve done for me. Who brings our chaos back into order? Who makes the orphan a son and daughter? The King of Glory. Who rules the nations with truth and justice? Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance? The King of Glory, the King above all kings. Worthy is the Lamb who was slain and worthy is the King who conquered the grave. Words and Music by Jeremy Riddle, Josh Farro, and Phil Wickham. CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 34:1-8 I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. My soul will boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. INVOCATION THE WELCOME OF GOD 1
SONGS OF PRAISE And Can It Be And can it be that I should gain an int rest in the Savior s blood? Died he for me who caused his pain? For me, who him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be? That thou my God shouldst die for me? He left his father s throne above, so free, so infinite his grace! Emptied himself of all but love, and bled for Adam s helpless race. Tis mercy all immense and free, for, O my God, it found out me. No condemnation now I dread: Jesus and all in him is mine. Alive in him my living head, and clothed in righteousness divine. Bold, I approach th eternal throne, and claim the crown through Christ my own. We Will Feast in the House of Zion We will feast in the house of Zion. We will sing with our hearts restored. He has done great things we will say together. We will feast and weep no more. We will not be burned by the fire. He is the Lord our God. We are not consumed by the flood; upheld, protected, gathered up. We will feast in the house of Zion. We will sing with our hearts restored. He has done great things we will say together. We will feast and weep no more. 2
In the dark of night before the dawn, my soul be not afraid, For the promised morning O how long? O God of Jacob, be my strength. We will feast in the house of Zion. We will sing with our hearts restored. He has done great things we will say together. We will feast and weep no more. Every vow we ve broken and betrayed, you are the faithful one; And from the garden to the grave, bind us together. Bring shalom! We will feast in the house of Zion. We will sing with our hearts restored. He has done great things we will say together. We will feast and weep no more. We will feast in the house of Zion. We will sing with our hearts restored. He has done great things we will say together. We will feast and weep no more. Words and Music by Sandra McCracken and Joshua Moore. Jesus! What a Friend for Sinners (11:00 AM Service) Jesus! What a friend for sinners! Jesus! Lover of my soul; Friends may fail me, foes assail me, He, my Savior, makes me whole. Hallelujah! What a Savior! Hallelujah! What a friend! Saving, helping, keeping, loving, He is with me to the end. Jesus! What a strength in weakness! Let me hide myself in him; Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing, He, my strength, my vict ry wins. Hallelujah! What a Savior! Hallelujah! What a friend! Saving, helping, keeping, loving, He is with me to the end. Jesus! I do now receive him, More than all in him I find; He hath granted me forgiveness, I am his, and he is mine. Hallelujah! What a Savior! Hallelujah! What a friend! Saving, helping, keeping, loving, He is with me to the end. 3
CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION All-Searching God, You read our hearts and know our sins, yet you do not abhor us. Through your Son, Jesus, you have given us life and devised a means for us to dwell in your presence. In Jesus, the enslaved find redemption, the guilty pardon, the unholy renovation; In Jesus is everlasting strength for the weak, unsearchable riches for the needy, treasures of wisdom and knowledge for the ignorant, and fullness for the empty. Your blessings are as secure as they are glorious; O Lord God, without the pardon of our sins, we cannot rest satisfied, without the renovation of our nature, we can never rest easy, without the hopes of heaven, we can never be at peace. All this we have in your Son, Jesus, and it is in his name that we pray. Amen. Adapted from The Valley of Vision: The Name of Jesus. SILENT CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON Romans 5:8-11 God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God s wrath through him! For if, when we were God s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. HYMN OF RESPONSE #465 Marvelous Grace of Our Loving Lord 4
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Members and Visitors please register your attendance on the Attendance Register. RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS Jim & Debbie Anderson; Joe & Rosemarie Putman (8:30 AM Service) Bryan & Angie Davis; John, Tracy, Alexys, Zoe, Asa, Zadyn, Ava, and Asher LeBreche (11:00 AM Service) THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Rosemarie Putman (8:30 AM Service) PASTORAL PRAYER Children age 4-1 st grade may be dismissed to Worship Center at this time. SCRIPTURE READING Psalm 11 (Pew Bible, page 452) 1 In the Lord I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, Flee like a bird to your mountain, 2 for behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart; 3 if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? 4 The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord s throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man. 5 The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. 6 Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face. 5
SERMON Courage Rev. Brad Allison The psalmist is experiencing a serious threat. An assassin is lurking, hiding under cover of darkness and hoping for an opportunity to kill King David, the author of our psalm. What should be done? A voice speaks up with advice: Flee like a bird to your mountain. But the psalmist has a place of refuge other than some private mountain. In the Lord I take refuge (v. 1). A second voice, this one calmer than the panicked earlier voice, speaks of trusting the Lord instead of fleeing. This psalm is about courage, about facing the challenge before us instead of running away from it. The resources for doing so can only be found in the Lord. This psalm outlines what it means to seek refuge in the Lord when catastrophe threatens. I. Ignore the Voice of Panic II. Listen to the Voice of the Lord III. Seek the Face of the Lord 6
GIVING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS I Am Not Alone When I walk through deep waters, I know that you will be with me. When I m standing in the fire, I will not be overcome. Through the valley of the shadow I will not fear. I am not alone. You will go before me; you will never leave me. In the midst of deep sorrow, I see your light is breaking through. The dark of night will not overtake me; I am pressing into you. Lord, you fight my every battle and I will not fear. You amaze me, redeem me. You call me as your own. You re my strength; you re my defender; you re my refuge in the storm. Through these trials, you ve always been faithful. You bring healing to my soul. Words and Music by Austin Davis, Ben Davis, Dustin Sauder, Grant Pittman, Kari Jobe, Marty Sampson, and Mia Fieldes.
