We welcome you and hope you are blessed as we magnify and worship God today. Please sign the pew register so we can know of your visit and have an opportunity to get to know you. If today is your first time visiting our church, consider picking up a visitor brochure and gift in the the back of the Sanctuary. If you have questions about a sermon or anything related to the Bible or Christianity, consider joining our pastor in the Library (room across the hallway from the piano side entrance to the Sanctuary) during the Sunday School hour. You are welcome to join us any Sunday. The Library is also available during both Worship services for nursing mothers. And for parents with small children who are unable to use our nursery or sit in the Sanctuary, please take advantage of our Sermon Listening Room, located across the hallway from the organ side entrance to the Sanctuary.

WORSHIP SERVICE FEBRUARY 10, 2019 PRELUDE Let Your Kingdom Come Your glorious cause, oh, God, engages our hearts. May Jesus Christ be known wherever we are. We ask not for ourselves, but for your renown. The cross has saved us, so we pray, Your kingdom come. Let your kingdom come; let your will be done, so that everyone might know your name. Let your song be heard everywhere on earth till your sovereign work on earth is done. Let your kingdom come. Give us your strength, oh, God, and courage to speak. Perform your wondrous deeds through those who are weak. Lord, use us as you want, whatever the test. By grace we ll preach your gospel till our dying breath. Words and Music by Bob Kauflin. CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 33:1-5, 8-11, 22 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you. INVOCATION THE WELCOME OF GOD 1

SONGS OF PRAISE Hail to the Lord s Anointed Hail to the Lord s anointed, great David s greater Son! Hail in the time appointed, his reign on earth begun! His reign on earth begun! He comes to break oppression, to set the captive free, To take away transgression, and rule in equity. Hail to the Lord s anointed, great David s greater Son! Hail in the time appointed, his reign on earth begun! His reign on earth begun! He comes with comfort speedy to those who suffer wrong, To help the poor and needy, and bid the weak be strong; To give them songs for sighing, their darkness turned to light, Whose souls, condemned and dying, were precious in his sight. Hail to the Lord s anointed, great David s greater Son! Hail in the time appointed, his reign on earth begun! His reign on earth begun! He shall come down like showers upon the fruitful earth, Love, joy, and hope, like flowers, spring in his path to birth. The tide of time shall never his covenant remove. His name shall stand forever, that name to us is Love. Hail to the Lord s anointed, great David s greater Son! Hail in the time appointed, his reign on earth begun! His reign on earth begun! Words by James Montgomery. Music by Sandra McCracken. Arise, O God, and Shine Arise, O God, and shine in all thy saving might, And prosper each design to spread thy glorious light; Let healing streams of mercy flow that all the earth thy truth may know. 2

Bring distant nations near to sing thy glorious praise; Let every people hear and learn thy holy ways. Reign, mighty God, assert thy cause, and govern by thy righteous laws. Put forth thy glorious pow r, that everyone may see And earth present her store, in converts born to thee. God, our own God, his Church will bless, and fill the world with righteousness. To God, the only Wise, the one immortal King, Let hallelujahs rise, from every living thing; Let all that breathe, on every coast, praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Words and William Hurn. Music by Chris Miner. Show Us Christ Prepare our hearts, O God, help us to receive. Break the hard and stony ground, help our unbelief. Plant your Word down deep in us, cause it to bear fruit, Open up our ears to hear, lead us in your truth. Show us Christ. Show us Christ. O God, reveal your glory through the preaching of your Word Until every heart confesses Christ is Lord. Your Word is living light upon our darkened eyes, Guards us through temptations, makes the simple wise. Your Word is food for famished ones, freedom for the slave, Riches for the needy soul, come speak to us today. Show us Christ. Show us Christ. O God, reveal your glory through the preaching of your Word Until every heart confesses Christ is Lord. Where else can we go, Lord? Where else can we go? You have the words of eternal life. (Repeat 2 X s) Show us Christ. Show us Christ. O God, reveal your glory through the preaching of your Word Until every heart confesses Christ is Lord. Words and music by Bob Kauflin and Doug Plank. 3

CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION Lord, you come to us, but we do not recognize you; you call, but we do not follow; you command, but we do not obey, you bless us, but we do not thank you. Please forgive and help us. Lord, you accept us, but we do not accept others; you forgive us, but we do not forgive those who wrong us; you love us, but we do not love our neighbors. Please forgive and help us. Lord, you showed us how to carry out your mission, but we still insist on our own; you identified yourself with outcasts, the needy, and the poor, but often, we do not bother to find out what is happening to them; you suffered and died for the sake of all, but we struggle to give up our comfortable lives. Please forgive and help us, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Worship Sourcebook SILENT CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON Romans 5:1-2, 8-9 Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. HYMN OF RESPONSE #32 Great is Thy Faithfulness WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Members and Visitors please register your attendance on the Attendance Register. 4

Halle, halle, hallelujah. Everything that breathes now praise; sing your songs, let voices raise. Come, make joyful music to the Lord. Play the cymbals, play the lute; play the timbrel, play the flute. (Sing to the Lord.) Come, make joyful music to the Lord. Halle, halle, hallelujah. Based on a traditional Carribean song. Arrangement by Hal Hopson. Children age 4-1 st grade may be dismissed to Worship Center at this time. SCRIPTURE READING Nehemiah 1:1-10 (Pew Bible, page 398) 1 The words of Nehemiah son of Hakaliah: In the month of Kislev in the twentieth year, while I was in the citadel of Susa, 2 Hanani, one of my brothers, came from Judah with some other men, and I questioned them about the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile, and also about Jerusalem. 3 They said to me, Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire. 4 When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven. 5 Then I said: Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6 let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father s family, have committed against you. 7 We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses. 8 Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, 9 but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name. 10 They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand. 5

SERMON Rediscovering the Love Song of God to the Nations Rev. Bill Nikides Missions is the restoration of a love song to the nations: 1. It is humble 2. It is repentant 3. It is hospitable 6

GIVING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS There is an Everlasting Kindness (The Compassion Hymn) There is an everlasting kindness you lavished on us, when the radiance of heaven came to rescue the lost. You called the sheep without a shepherd to leave their distress for your streams of forgiveness and the shade of your rest. And with compassion for the hurting, you reached out your hand as the lame ran to meet you and the dead breathed again. You saw behind the eyes of sorrow and shared in our tears; heard the sigh of the weary, let the children draw near. What boundless love, what fathomless grace you have shown us, O God of compassion. Each day we live an offering of praise, as we show to the world your compassion. We stood beneath the cross of Calvary and gazed on your face at the thorns of oppression and the wounds of disgrace; for surely you have borne our suffering and carried our grief, as you pardoned the scoffer and showed grace to the thief. How beautiful the feet that carry this gospel of peace to the fields of injustice and the valleys of need. To be a voice of hope and healing, to answer the cries of the hungry and helpless with the mercy of Christ. Words and Music by Keith & Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townend. HYMN OF RESPONSE #263 Lift High the Cross BENEDICTION POSTLUDE In preparation for our Faith Promise at the 2019 Missions Conference, this will be our last look at different ways the Lord provides for us so that we in turn can give. How does God provide? Through Our Creativity Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. One of the fruits of working heartily for the Lord is to consider how the fruits of our labors can further God s kingdom. How can your family heartily engage in investing money in missions? A kids lemonade stand? Credit card rebates? A small part-time job? There are myriads of ideas God may impress upon our hearts as we seek His inheritance as our reward. Words and Music used by permission. All rights reserved. CCLI #
