If today is your first time visiting our church, consider picking up a visitor brochure and gift in the the back of the Sanctuary. If you have questions about a sermon or anything related to the Bible or Christianity, consider joining our pastor in the Library (room across the hallway from the piano side entrance to the Sanctuary) during the Sunday School hour. You are welcome to join us any Sunday. The Library is also available during both Worship services for nursing mothers. And for parents with small children who are unable to use our nursery or sit in the Sanctuary, please take advantage of our Sermon Listening Room, located across the hallway from the organ side entrance to the Sanctuary.

6 CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION O God of Unsearchable Greatness, Without you, we are nothing but vanity, iniquity, perishing; Sin has forfeited your favor, marred your image in us, banished us from your presence, exposed us to the curse of your law, and we cannot deliver ourselves from this sin. But a resource is found in you, for without any deserving or desire from us, you devised an everlasting plan through your Son, Jesus Christ. May we find Jesus as the power unto salvation, the center of all relief, the source of all gospel blessings. May his shed blood make us more thankful for your mercies, more humble under your correction, more zealous in your service, more watchful against temptation, more contented in our circumstances, and more loving and helping to others. Let us say of the LORD, He is our refuge and our fortress, my God, in whom we trust. Surely he will save you from the fowler s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 8 SERMON Help Me, Lord! Rev. Brad Allison The theme of this psalm is made clear by a literary device known as bracketing or inclusio. As the word bracketing suggests, it means to bookend material through the repetition of a theme at the beginning and end. So the theme of Psalm 70, stated at its beginning and end, is the urgent call to God for help. This is the essence of prayer and the key to praying without ceasing, a practice commanded by God in the New Testament. We are to call out to God for help throughout our day. Those who don t do so are warned in this psalm of their great danger, and those who do are promised joy and gladness. I. The Call for Help v. 1, 5 II. Those Who Don t Call for Help v. 2-3 III.
