1 Andrew Johnson, 17 TH President ( ), was born at Raleigh, N.C., December 29, He received the degrees in Greenville Lodge No.119 at Greenville, Tennessee in 1851; is supposed to have been a Chapter Mason but the name of the Chapter and date of exaltation are unknown; was Knighted in Nashville Commandery No.1, Nashville, Tennessee, July 26, 1859, and, the First President to become a Scottish Rite Mason, received those degrees in the White House June 20, 1867, from Benjamin B. French, 33 Deg. and A.T.C. Pierson, 33 Deg., both active members of the Supreme Council, S.J. He participated in five cornerstone layings; the monument to Bro. Stephen a Douglas, Chicago, Illinois, September 6, 1866; Masonic Temple, Baltimore, Maryland, November 20, 1866; Masonic Temple Boston, Massachusetts, June 24, 1867; National Cemetery, Antietam, Maryland, October 17, 1867; and Masonic Temple, Washington, D.C., May 20, To attend this ceremony he gave leave to all Masons in government service, and President Johnson marched on foot in the parade as a Master Mason. At the cornerstone laying of the Baltimore Temple someone suggested that a chair be brought to the reviewing platform for him. Brother Johnson refused it, saying: We all meet on the level. He died July 31, 1875, and was buried with full Masonic Honors by Greenville Lodge No.119, R.W.G. C. Connor, Deputy Grand Master of Tennessee conducting the services in the presence of four Lodges and Coeur de Lion Commandery No.9 of Knoxville, which performed the Templar service. Andrew Johnson ( ), the 17th U.S. president, assumed office after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln ( ). Johnson, who served from 1865 to 1869, was the first American president to be impeached. A tailor before he entered politics, Johnson grew up poor and lacked a formal education. He served in the Tennessee legislature and U.S. Congress, and was governor of Tennessee. A Democrat, he championed populist measures and supported states rights. During the U.S. Civil War ( ), Johnson was the only Southern senator to remain loyal to the Union. Six weeks after Johnson was inaugurated as U.S. vice president in 1865, Lincoln was murdered. As president, Johnson took a moderate approach to restoring the South to the Union, and clashed with Radical Republicans. In 1868, he was impeached by Congress, but he was not removed from office. He did not run for a second presidential term. The Senate approved the purchase of Alaska on April 9; President Andrew Johnson signed the treaty on May 28, and Alaska was formally transferred to the United States on October 18, Andrew Johnson died July 31, 1875, Elizabethton, TN.

2 I hope this reminds you that TODAY is the day to START Forget the past. Forget your age. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. The important question is NOT: Are your desires going to be easy to achieve? The important question IS: Are your desires worth the hard work? Deep down you know the answer to the latter is YES! You have to do hard things to be happy in life. The things no one else is doing. The things that frighten you. The things others can t do for you. The things that make you question how much longer you can hold on and push forward. Why? Because those are the things that define you. Those are the things that make the difference between existing and living between knowing the path and walking the path between a life of mediocrity and a life filled with happiness and success. Of course, the hard things are often the easiest things to avoid. To procrastinate. To make excuses. To pretend like they somehow don t apply to you and your life situation. But reality always rears its head in the end. And the truth about how ordinary people achieve immense happiness and incredible feats of success is that they step out of their comfort zones and do the hard things that their more educated, affluent and qualified counterparts don t have the courage, drive or determination to do. So for your own sake, start taking action on the hard things TODAY. I guarantee, you will be blown away at just how remarkable you really are and just how amazing life can be. Here are three key ideas to get you started: 1. You need to take small chances every day. It s the best way to face any problem, crush every fear and overcome life s greatest challenges. And you get just about as many chances in life as you re willing to take. So never let your fear decide your future. Take small chances every day, one step at a time. Some will work out and some won t. But good choices or bad, if you never take these chances, someone else will build your life for you. And you don t want that. 2. You need to walk the talk. Do not ask others or the universe to guide your footsteps if you re not willing to move your feet. If you really want it, prove it! Happiness will come to you when it comes from you. Success will be yours when you take responsibility for making your goals a top priority. NO shortcuts. NO quick fixes. NO blaming others. NO I ll do it tomorrows. NO MORE EXCUSES! Just get started. Quit talking and begin doing! Laziness may appear attractive, but work leads to happiness. 3. You need to refrain from feeling sorry for yourself. If you re hurting, I understand how rough things are right now. I just want to let you know that things will get better, I promise. Keep pushing forward. I know you feel like nobody really cares, but you re wrong. People care. I care, otherwise I wouldn t be writing this. This is a group effort. We may be miles apart, but we re all going through similar challenges. Realize that self-pity is not helpful. Life is not about feeling sorry for yourself. It s about forgiveness, acceptance and looking forward to what makes you stronger and better off in the long run.

3 Brethren, greetings from the West. In this article, we will be exploring the word Worshipful. We use this word in our greetings, recognition, and as an acknowledgement of respect. Have you ever thought about where the word came from and what it means? The word Worshipful, according to Merriam-Webster s dictionary, means to reflect great admiration or devotion. Related words are, glorifying, reverent, reverential, venerating, hagiographic, affectionate, fond, loving, appreciative, deferential, respectful, and approving. The Anglo-Saxons used a word called weorth or worthy, which can be defined as follows: to be esteemed, to be bowed to, to be obeyed. It was something honorable, deserving of respect, a meaning that shows up in worth, the value of anything, also in worship, which is deference paid to some object or person of great importance. Worshipful describe something full of the qualities calling for such deference. It was used in medieval times for one s parents, officers of the state, prelates, etc., signifying that such persons were of high station or entitled to deferential respect. In old English and Middle English, dating back to , the word they used was WORCHYPPE or WORCHYP, both meaning greatly respected. In the Wycliffe Bible, honor thy father and thy mother appears as Wochyp thy fadir and thy modir. In the 17 TH century, the guilds of London began to call themselves Worshipful, as the Worshipful Company of grocers and butchers, etc. It is likely that the Masonic Lodges, around the time of the forming of the Grand Lodge and perhaps a few years before, adapted the same practice. It is still common in England to use the word Worshipful and Right Worshipful as titles of honor. Municipal and judicial officers and, also, the mayors of small towns and justices of the peace are titled Worshipful, while the mayors of large cities such as London are called Right Worshipful. The usage was adopted and retained in Freemasonry. In addition, the Germans use the word Hochwurdig and the French use the word Venerable in lieu of the word worshipful. Most Masonic jurisdictions in the United States use the term Most Worshipful for the Grand Master and the Grand Lodge of that state or jurisdiction. Right Worshipful is a prevailing title of the elected officers of the grand Lodge below the level of Grand Master. Very Worshipful is the title for the appointed grand Lodge officers. The regular lodges within the jurisdiction use the term worshipful for the Lodge and worshipful master for the master of the Lodge. As I put this article together, I reflected on my experience in the lodge and as an officer. I have used the term Worshipful as a part of my Masonic experience. As I use it in the future, I will definitely think more about why and how I use the term Worshipful. Final thought: Respect and tradition is such a large part of our Masonic experience. Use what you have learned in your time on earth, to better those around you.

9 Honored Ladies and Sir Knights: Installation time again for New Horizon Court N May 16, 2015, Honored Lady Iris Owen was installed as Royal Matron and Sir Knight Jack Daniel was installed as Royal Patron with a new corps of officers. The dress for the day was lots of glitz, indeed the Honored Ladies were beautiful and the Sir Knights looked great in their tuxedos. Royal Patron Jack Daniel introduces a Past Master from Alice Springs (the outback of Australia) and who just happens to be the Royal Matron Iris Owen s brother-in-law. He then gave a big thank you to George Coxey for his support of the garage sale drive for Diabetes, thank you again George. All guests were given a ticket for a drawing. The first ticket drawn was won by NO other than Brother George Coxey who won a large cookie jar filled with goodies. Royal Matron Iris Owen asked the DeMolay boys to assist in setting out the food, pouring our guests tea and cleaning up after the event. Royal Patron Jack Daniel invited the boys into the lodge hall and they were introduce by the DeMolay Dads. Royal Patron Jack Daniel then presented them with a nice donation. Royal Matron Iris Owen introduced all of the guests and thanked them for sharing this special day with New Horizon Court N Royal Matron Iris closed the court and invited all to enjoy a great buffet luncheon.
