In chapter 18 John was shown a great city, representing excessive pride, greed and self indulgence. The city was to be destroyed by God because of its sins of pleasure and its sins against God s people. Since we live in a world today much like the one described in Revelation, we too are in danger of being deceived and find ourselves struggling with desires that pull us away from God. God called for his people to come out from her and to not partake in the sins that result in ultimate destruction. Believers should enjoy God s provisions with a grateful heart, but also recognize and reject the pull of this world to glorify and indulge self while ignoring God. We must choose where our treasures lie either with the things of this world or with things that have eternal worth. Let us keep our eyes on Jesus and stay busy telling others about the most precious possession any one can have eternal life through faith in a resurrected Lord. 12 Special Interest Events Hi Folks, Submitted by Dan Helfer HOT ROD POWER TOUR June 11 17, 2016Registration is open online at Hotrod.com I noticed a mention in the CCC newsletter about the Hot Rod Power Tour (June 11-17) and thought I'd see if anyone was interested in going as a group. Here are the dates & cities: June 11 - Lamar Dixon Expo Center, Gonzales, LA June 12 - Royal Purple Raceway, Baytown, TX June 13 Circuit of the Americas, Austin, TX June 14 Traders Village, Grand Prairie, TX June 15 Remington Park, Oklahoma City, OK June 16 Kansas Pavilion, Wichita, KS June 17 Kansas Speedway, Kansas City, KS Since it goes through DFW mid week, we could do just the 1st half of the route Or start in the middle and drive the 2nd half only. Or for the "long haul", the entire route. Please let me know if you have an interest in going with as a group and doing some or all of the 2016 Hot Rod Power Tour. We can start planning now and be ready by June. Thanks, Dan Helfer (working on one "bucket list" item at a time) 12
13 Layman s Ten Commandments Someone has written these beautiful words. They are like the Ten Commandments to follow at all times in life. 1. Prayer is not a spare wheel that you pull out when in trouble, but rather it is a steering wheel that directs the right path throughout life. 2. Why is a car s windshield so large and the rearview mirror so small? It is because our past is not as important as our future. So look ahead and move on. 3. Friendship is like a book. It takes only a few seconds to burn, but it takes years to write. 4. All things in life are temporary. If it s going well enjoy it, it won t last that long. If it s going badly don t worry, that won t last long either. 5. Old friends are gold. New friends are diamonds. If you get a diamond, don t forget the gold. Because to hold a diamond you always need a base of gold! 6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end God smiles from above and says, Relax sweetheart, it s just a bend, not the end! 7. When God solves your problems you have faith in His abilities; when God doesn t solve your problems, He has faith in your abilities. 8. A blind person asked St. Anthony, Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight? He replied, Yes, losing your vision! 9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them; sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you. 10. Worrying does not take away tomorrow s troubles, it takes away today s peace. 13
