2 Good Will Ambassadors Performing Random Acts of Kindness Each month, the GCTC recognizes members who provide selfless service to our community. The first time a member returns an item, that individual receives a metal detecting pin (handcrafted by Steve Hoskins) to wear on his or her hat, in addition to a certificate of appreciation. REPEAT AMBASSADOR Irving Smith UNSUNG HEROES 2014 The fifth annual Unsung Hero was awarded to Gary McNew in recognition for returning the most number of lost items to their rightful owners during The plaque, which features the names of all members who returned items during 2014, will be on display during future meetings. We salute ALL of our Good Will Ambassadors for their selfless service to others! News stories in 1919 reported that 14 old Spanish cannons were discovered in roughly the same area. Thanks to Gary McNew for the information.

3 DUBIOUS AWARDS Winners of these awards were nominated by fellow members for their dubious actions during the past year. Irving Smith and Allen Mankin showed up one week early to separate meetings - that is how much they look forward to club meetings. Jerry Laur - voiced his concerns for the new embroidered club shirts - he has sensitive nipples and was worried that the backing would hurt his nipples. Linda Bennett didn't practice what she preached as evidenced on the last club hunt in which she forgot her beach scoop. Allen loaned her one of his spare. Jan Smirnow spent one beach hunt eating sand because she didn't watch the waves and kept being swept off her feet. Fortunately her hunting partner, Paul Hamlin, rescued her scoop that had been swept away. HIGHLIGHTS Young pirate Elijah Krysiewicz received a stocking. Steve Hoskins Photographer THANK YOU TO OUTGOING HUNTMASTER Linda Bennett presented with Silver 8 Reale By popular vote, Jerry Laur again received the honor of winning the Sixth Annual Broken Scoop Award.. It was a tight vote - he beat out Linda by 2 votes. Jerry will have to display this award in a prominent place at her home until the next Holiday Party in Hopefully he will be able to pass along the award at that time to another member. 5 FMDAC UPDATE To go along with the new website we now have a new forum. It is not yet linked to the website as I write this but should be soon. It is hosted by mytreasurespot. com. It is at the bottom of the forum lists. You do need to be registered with mytreasurespot in order to post. The forum is meant to be an information exchange where you can go to find the latest and up to date info on issues effecting the hobby along with any general FMDAC info. This is also a place where you can ask questions. Hope you will check in on it. Kicking off the commemoration will be a selected display of recovered sunken treasure and artifacts from the State. The items will be exhibited Jan. 8 to 11, 2015, at the Florida United Numismatists Convention at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. Thursday, Jan 8: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM Educational Seminar. The Loss of the 1715 Plate Fleet, by Ben Costello is the 300th anniversary of the historic Spanish fleet loss off the east coast of Florida. Who better to discuss this event than Ben Costello, a director of the 1715 Fleet Society? Mr. Costello will detail the hows, whys and whens of one of the most significant events in numismatic history! Thursday, Jan 8: :30 Educational Seminar. A Sunken Ship is a Time Capsule: The 1715 Plate Fleet Wreck, by Peter Cowdry. The speaker is the current educator in residence at the Museum of Florida History in Tallahassee. His program will focus on a range of issues including what was on these ships of the great fleet wreck, the degree to which they ve been preserved, and the navigational problems faced by the fleets of that era. RAFFLE A new raffle was introduced at the September meeting which is comprised of a 1/10 th gold Eagle, a gold Mexican Dos and an uncirculated Silver Eagle $. The spots are $5 each.
