September is going to be a MONTH OF MISSION! On Sunday, September 11th, our Sunday School will be using their first day to help prepare items for our Bridges Run. In worship, we ll be creating our own Blessing Bags to help the less-fortunate and down trodden in our day-to-day lives. Our Bridges Run to help the homeless in Newark will be on Saturday, September 17th! Donations, helpers and participants are still needed. See page 8 for more details. On September 18th, we ll be taking a trip to Waterloo UMC to witness a program on the inhumanity of solitary confinement. See page 13 for more details. You ll even have a chance to spend a few moments in a solitary confinement cell. On September 25th, we ll make flood buckets for UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief) during worship. See page 9 for needed donations. So, I m hoping you enjoyed a relaxing summer. Because it s time to get to work for God! Adult Bible Study will resume on October 2nd, at 9:15am. Worship in September Christ s Mission; Our Mission based on Luke 4: Jesus stated His mission on earth. Let s explore it, and claim it for ourselves! Sept 4th The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Us Labor Day Weekend Sept 11th Proclaiming Good News to the Poor. Sunday School begins (9:15am). Making Blessing Bags in worship (10:30am). Sept 18th Freedom for the Prisoners. Trip after worship (12n) to Waterloo UMC for Out of the Box event. See page 13 for information. Sept 25th Recovery. We ll make flood buckets for UMCOR. GIVING THANKS Heavenly Father, CHOIR REHEARSAL Rehearsals will begin again soon! We will inform you when we have a date! Thank You Lord for keeping me through the month of August. Lord I am grateful to see the new month of September. I declare the month of September as my month of miracle and breakthrough. I receive every blessing tied to September for my life. I declare September as my seasons of joy and celebrations I shall dance with joy and celebrate all of your blessings for my life. Father God, I will operate under an open heaven and your blessings shall overtake me and my family. Grant me wisdom and uncommon ideas for breakthrough on every decision I have to make. Lord, make this month a September to remember. Lord, I pray for your peace to reign in our world today, and to grant the world leaders, wisdom to walk side by side in peace in Jesus name. Amen. 3

6 NEWS AROUND THE CHURCH CHILDREN S DAY 2016! Another great year! The Float and Church Decoration were based on the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro and the Olympic Spirit. Jeff, Taylor and Carly Dickerson recently competed in the Warrior Dash. It is a 5k Race with obstacles to go over, under and through. Obviously, there was a good deal of mud involved! They all completed the race together! Good clean family fun! 6
7 A BIT OF A SCARE AT CHURCH THIS WEEK A huge thank you to the Parsippany Police Department, the Mount Tabor Fire Department, Parsippany District 5 Fire Department (Rockaway Neck), Morris County Haz- Mat, Parsippany Ambulance Squad, and the Boonton Kiwanis First Aid Squad for their assistance at the Church on Monday, August 29th. After an unidentified white powder was discovered in the church, two church members who handled it became ill. The substance was tested, and was found to be baking soda. The church member are doing fine, and the police department called the experience a great drill for them. 7
8 BRIDGES RUN Coordinator: Sarah Lefsyk The United Methodist Church at Mount Tabor has collected and is ready to deliver donations to Newark when we go on our Bridges Run on September 17th. If you can donate anything listed below, please call the church office at from 11:00am 3:00pm Mondays and Wednesdays, and from 9:00am 3:00pm on Fridays to schedule an appointment to drop off your items. Thank you in advance for your help! HERE S HOW YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE BRIDGES RUN: Saturday, September 17, 2016 Meet at Church 8:30am I will help in the following way(s): Go on the Bridges Run (be at Church at 8:30am) Help organize items ahead of time Help with last minute packing Toiletries (ESPECIALLY NEEDED) small bottles only Shampoo Soap Q-Tips Hair Spray Shaving Cream Band-Aids Toothbrushes Mouthwash Body lotion Toothpaste Form a team to prepare lunches to be dropped off at the church no later than 8:00am, Sept. 17th Juice Boxes Boxes of snack-like cakes, cookies, etc. (individually wrapped) Fresh Fruit: grapes, tangerines, tangelos, etc. Heavy duty plastic garbage bags Gallon size Ziploc bags Monetary donation (to the Church) Name: Phone #s: Home: Cell: Non-perishables can be placed in the BRIDGES bin in the designated drop area located in the hall outside of Memorial Hall. 8
9 UMCOR The United Methodist Committee on Relief Giving Gifts to the World. On August 28th, we prayed for the world and took up a collection for UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief) in support of their flood relief efforts in Louisiana. We collected $ Thank you to all who gave and continue to keep the world in prayer. On September 25th, we will be making Flood Buckets for UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief). UMCOR handed out MANY buckets to families affected by the recent floods in Louisiana, Texas, and West Virginia. Let s help replenish their storehouse! From now through Wednesday, September 21th, please bring in the following donations (collection boxes will be in the Narthex by the Sanctuary doors and in Memorial Hall): 5 gallon buckets with lids 50 oz. or 25 oz. liquid laundry detergent oz. concentrated liquid household cleaner (no spray bottles) oz. dish soap Cans of air freshener Insect repellant spray 6-14 oz. Scrub brush with plastic or wooden handle Cleaning wipes Sponges NOT cellulose Scouring pads NOT stainless steel with NO soap built in Clothespins Clothesline 100 feet or 50 feet cotton or plastic Heavy duty trash bags gallon size Dust masks Kitchen dishwashing gloves Work gloves cotton with leather palm or all leather 9
10 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES THRIFT SHOP: Volunteers are needed in ALL AREAS now that we are back open!!! Assist with sorting, pricing, eventually, putting items in the shop, working the shop, and organizing/tidying up the shop. Please contact the church office if you are interested! MUSIC: Join the Chancel Choir! No experience necessary. Our singers meet on Thursdays, 7:30pm, in the sanctuary beginning in September. The Chancel Choir contact is Rachel Caldari Stroh. We would love to have you! We will advise you of the start date soon. Think about a fall ministry. CROP SHARE: We are once again hosting Alstede Farms Crop Share program. We are looking for volunteers to distribute produce to the CSA Members on Wednesdays, from 3pm 7pm, from the church kitchen. Volunteers receive a personal size share of produce for their time. Sign-up sheet is located on the table in Memorial Hall. 10
