Father and son and the open sky And the white clouds lazily drifting by, And the laughing stream as it runs along With the clicking reel like a martial song, And the father teaching the youngster gay How to land a fish in the sportsman s way. I fancy I hear them talking there In an open boat, and the speech is fair. And the boy is learning the ways of men From the finest man in his youthful ken. Kings, to the youngster, cannot compare With the gentle father who s with him there. And the greatest mind of the human race Not for one minute could take his place. Which is happier, man or boy? The soul of the father is steeped in joy, For he s finding out, to his heart s delight, That his son is fit for the future fight. He is learning the glorious depths of him, And the thoughts he thinks and his every whim; And he shall discover, when night comes on, How close he has grown to his little son. A boy and his dad on a fishing-trip Builders of life s companionship! Oh, I envy them, as I see them there Under the sky in the open air, For out of the old, old long-ago Come the summer days that I used to know, When I learned life s truths from my father s lips As I shared the joy of his fishing-trips. Labor Day Weekend CHOIR NEWS The Choir is off for the Summer! We will welcome their wonderful singing back in September. Prayer for August "People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them." Mark 10:13-16 (NIV) Children s Day Prayer by Sarah Weaver (C) 2013 from O God, who is parent to us all. We welcome you into this space where you can see the majestic work of your creation. Through our worship today, see that we are heeding Christ s call to let the children come to us to invite all into the priesthood of all believers and to be the Body of Christ. As we celebrate the children and the youth of our church, we know that we are truly celebrating our whole church family our commitment to one another our love for one another and our compassion for the world outside of our walls. Be with us as we acknowledge our covenant together, and recommit our lives and our ministries to you. Give us strength, O God, with your creating, redeeming and sustaining grace, Fill our whole lives with your presence. Amen. 3

ADULT BIBLE STUDY Adult Bible Study will be taking the summer off. We will resume meeting again in the fall. COINS FOR COLLEGE Have spare change? Drop it in the Coins for College container located at the back of the sanctuary. All proceeds will be given as scholarships to our members enrolled in college. This will be an ongoing mission project led by the Adult Bible Study Class. Let s support our young people on their educational journey! SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS CORRECTION! Sunday School will begin on September 16th, not September 9th. See you in September! 5

6 NEWS AROUND THE CHURCH CANDY NEEDED FOR CD PARADE DONATE CANDY!! Bring donations of candy (individually wrapped) to Memorial Hall during office hours next week (Monday and Wednesday 10am-2pm) or contact Pastor Amanda for other arrangements. We need A LOT of candy for the parades! CHILDREN S DAY WEEKEND Children s Day is the weekend of August 2nd 5th. The weekend kicks off with the Howard & Mim Bell Memorial Races on Thursday. Registration is at 6p. Fun Run begins at 6:30pm and 5K starts at 7pm. We need help on Friday evening to set up the House Decoration at the church at 7pm. If you will be joining us in the parade(s) on Saturday, line up for the afternoon parade is at 12:45pm. Evening parade will line up at 7pm. Meet at the Post Office. Sunday, we will have worship at the church at 9:30am. The Children s Day worship will be in the Tabernacle at 11am. Happy Children s Day to everyone! PRICING PARTIES In AUGUST, our Pricing Party will be Monday, August 27th, from 6pm-9pm. Please join us! No experience necessary. Learn about pricing, help stock the shop, socialize, all while serving and helping to keep the success that it is! MASCARA MISSION Donate your used mascara wands! Tabor resident, Olivia Dauber, is collecting them to be sent to The Appalachian Wildlife Refuge, where they are used for animal hygiene. We ll collect through August. No need to clean, just bring them in. Spread the word! 6

7 NEWS AROUND THE CHURCH The Mount Tabor Arts Collaborative recently held their summer Theatre Camp here. They spent nearly two weeks working extremely hard on their production of The Lion King, Jr. The kids were taught lines, songs, and dancing as well as creation of costumes and props. The Church was filled with the sounds of their laughter and songs! The culmination of the Camp was the show at the Tabernacle. It was FANTASTIC! Everyone was amazed at the talent and the fact that it was all accomplished in less than two weeks! Photos by Dan Bozza 7

PRAYER CHAIN Our church has an active prayer chain whose members regularly receive requests for prayers for specific needs.
