We are starting off with a great group of Officers and Committeemen who have signed on to continue their support and are dedicated to excellence along with our new people. Irv Kobsa will be the new Sunshine Chairman, and Pat Brennan our Auditor. Bill Avery will support the Golf Committee in Prizes and Scoring. Jerry Oliver and Al Smith will be supporting our photo needs. The golf club finished the year a little flat. There was a little rain on the morning of the Shoreline Tournament, and only four hardy souls showed up to play. The ground was a little wet, but when we were half way through, the sun got so hot, we had to put off our warm coats, and apply sun block. Too nice a day to be missed. That's why we live here. One of the challenges in 2006 Committee is fix the seating problem at the luncheons. We have had some unhappy members who come by them selves or with guests, and can t find seats. Last November the Executive Committee authorizes a group of volunteers headed by Ed Hirshfield to recommend changes to our seating procedure to correct the problem. Here are their recommendations. Request the restaurant set up an additional table for 16 seats which should help the last minute seat seekers. ( The restaurant has agree to add the additional seats) Ask members to reserve no more than 5 additional seats each. Recognize that no reservations will remain valid after 11:45 if the seat has not been filled with a purchased ticket for that day. Assure that 3 tables be set-aside for NO RESERVATIONS AL- LOWED at each luncheon. Let everyone know that if this process works we will make it a part of our agenda, however if it does not accomplish our intent more invasive methods may be employed. Milt Howard, Big Sir SPEAKER FOR JANUARY The SIR luncheon speaker for January will be Terry Christiansen, a specialist on state and local politics. Terry Christensen has authored or co-authored eight books. One of the latest is Recall! California s Political Earthquake (2004). He holds a BA from Stanford and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He chaired the SJSU Department of Political Science from 1993 to His topic will be "The State of State Politics".

The winner of the two halves will bowl against each other at the end of the second half to determine the league championship. Highlights of first half: - Tomix Alvaro with games - Rich Madayag with games, series; a high game of 280 & a high series of Bib Hunt with games and series. A high game of 245 and a 638 series. - Ed Lodi with games. Jim Silver with games and series. - Peter Morrone with games and series and a 267 game and a 675 series. EVERY MON. Sam Zullo SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Things are pretty quiet on our Social Activities at the moment but Jack and I are working on a January Tour of the New Professional Culinary Academy in Campbell. We are meeting with them on 3 January and are tentatively scheduling a breakfast or lunch meeting and tour there on 24 January. There will be a cost involved for the food and wives are welcome. 6 COMPUTER CLUB The December Computer Club Meeting announced in the December bulletin has been cancelled because of conflicts with other end of the year activities. As a result, the next scheduled meeting of the Branch 125 Computer Club will be on Thursday,January 19,2006 from 3 PM to 5PM. This meeting will be held in our usual meeting place, at the Saratoga Senior Center across from the Saratoga Post Office on Allendale Ave. Norm Martin Message from Area 5 Governor Hello, Congratulations, and Welcome to all 2006 Sir Branch Officers, Chair, Committeemen, and branch members. First let me introduce my self to the few of you that don't know me, and those I haven't had the pleasurable occasion to speak with personally at your branch during my unofficial drop in visits or at State, Region, or Area meetings during the last few years. My name is Gary Pelton. I am a member of San Jose Branch 10. As a proud member of that branch I have done most of the duties that I have been appointed to or elected as. I am sure this is true with most of you. Also, I was Big Sir in 2004, and on the State Growth and Management Committee in 03 and 04. Now it is with great pleasure as your Governor that I welcome you to your new branch responsibilities, and to thank those of you that have remained in your current office or committee for another year. Your knowledge is invaluable. During the first couple of months things will be hectic with settling into your required routines. May I at this time mention that your new SIR Manual pages (revision 11/15/05) along with your new revised Schedule of Meetings and Reports (revision 12/6/05) that were not available at your December Training Session in Santa Cruz are available online at Let me point out that there were very minor changes in the Big Sir duties, but major changes for the Secretary. Please go over the changes with your Secretary as those changes also greatly affect my duties as your Area 5 Governor. If after reading all of the above references and you need advice or help at any time please contact me immediately. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated, and I hope to see all of you at your branch soon. As of this writing I have already eagerly accepted invitations to three of the seven Area 5 Branches. Sir Gary Pelton MEMBERSHIP REPORT We'd like to thank our members who have introduced new-member prospects at our monthly luncheon meetings - particularly after our appeal for "help" in the 2nd half of We began 2005 with a membership of 176 and dropped to a low of 169 in May. Our membership at the end of 2005 was 179 and we will be inducting 9 new members at the January 2006 luncheon - bringing our total membership to 188. We continue to encourage members to sponsor a guest at our upcoming luncheon meetings. Any first-time guest, who is considering membership, will be entitled to a free lunch courtesy of our branch.
