4 [ IHQ NEWS/ EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Dear brothers: The 2010/2011 academic year was a period of sigificat growth for Theta Chi. Over the course of last year, our chapters iitiated over 2,100 members, markig our best performace i 14 years. Our 2011 aual membership cesus results revealed that the Fraterity has more tha 6,000 udergraduate members for the first time sice This same report showed that our average chapter size is at a 17-year high. This past sprig, Theta Chi reistalled two chapters: Eta at the Uiversity of Rhode Islad ad Psi at the Uiversity of Wiscosi. We also istalled our ewest chapter, Iota Xi at Georgia College ad State Uiversity. The Fraterity etered the 2011/2012 academic year with over 10 coloies ad iterest groups, ad the Iteratioal Headquarters cotiues to receive regular iquiries about establishig ew Theta Chi chapters. Such strog growth meas that more udergraduates view Theta Chi as a orgaizatio that ca brig value to their lives. It also speaks to the commitmet of our chapters, which seek to perpetuate the ideals of our Fraterity by admittig a greater umber of promisig youg me to our raks. With a larger membership base, our members have more opportuities to forge lifelog friedships ad to beefit from the kowledge ad experiece of each other. Both our udergraduate ad alumus members are to be credited for our recet growth. Our udergraduate members have made commitmets to learig, plaig, ad executig successful recruitmet strategies. They have also provided meaigful chapter experieces that have ecouraged me to remai actively ivolved with the Fraterity throughout their collegiate careers. Our alumi have made sigificat cotributios to these efforts as well, by offerig soud guidace ad advice, submittig recruitmet referrals, ad helpig to pave the way for Theta Chi s expasio to campuses across the coutry. Growth cotiues to be a top priority for Theta Chi. I call upo all brothers to cotribute to these efforts i oe or more of the followig ways: Pass alog the ames ad cotact iformatio of ay promisig udergraduates attedig a uiversity where Theta Chi is represeted. Newma Hall ow serves as URI s admissios buildig. Theta Chi s badge ca still be see i the railig o the secod floor. Natioal Secretary Rich Partridge (secod from right) served as istallig officer. Eta returs to Rhode Islad Editor s ote: Eta Chapter was reistalled i April 2011, after the sprig publicatio deadlie. Please ejoy the full story below. BY SHAWN SAIYA (ETA/RHODE ISLAND 2013) A week ad a day after the 100th aiversary of the foudig of Theta Chi s seveth chapter, 28 me proudly accepted a charter for Eta oce agai. It all bega i September 2009, whe Expasio Coordiators Corey Fischer ad Jaso Hadberg came to Rhode Islad to recruit Eta s first ew members i 21 years. A group of early 15 me was assembled by early October ad the first officer electios were held shortly thereafter. With officers selected, Eta focused o growth. The iterest group was ready to coloize i late February, but as the date drew earer, Eta hit its first roadblock whe the group shruk from 25 to ie. The timig set a cripplig blow to the remaiig members morale, ad Eta scrambled to rebuild what was lost. The group early doubled i size by the February deadlie. Followig coloizatio, Eta wated to better establish itself o campus. While the coloy was ot permitted to participate i school-sposored Greek programmig at the time, Eta tried to make itself more visible to the Greek commuity. Whether it was havig full participatio at the America Cacer Society s Relay for Life, supportig charity fudraisers hosted by sororities, or orgaizig campus-wide clea ups, Eta bega to form a presece at URI. Eve though fall s recruitmet efforts failed to yield umbers, they did brig quality. Eta was recogized as havig the highest grade poit average of Rhode Islad s 12 fraterities o campus. This was a stickig poit that Eta prided itself o whe itroducig Theta Chi to potetial ew members. While a few of the recruits Eta wet after had previously cosidered Greek life, may had t give so much as a thought to joiig a fraterity. The majority of the curret members had o itetio of joiig a fraterity util they were preseted with Theta Chi. With that i mid, Eta cotiued to recruit others who possessed qualities that could greatly beefit to the fraterity. I mid-sprig, the coloy officially received word durig a charity fudraiser that Eta Chapter's petitio had bee approved. This ews reaffirmed our group's ethusiasm ad sese of brotherhood, ad o April 30, 2011, Eta Chapter formally retured to campus. A great deal is owed to the alumi who helped guide ad steer Eta from its ifacy up to its istallatio. They offered advice whe asked, costructive criticism whe they viewed it ecessary, ad motivated us with their ow past experieces. They also cotributed a great deal to the fudraisig efforts that helped sed members to various atioal evets ad assist with payig the recharterig ad istallatio costs. Special thaks are due to Eta alumi Kevi Rook Chroley (1982), Joh Eastma (1962), Mike Testa (1963), ad Gary Hery (Gamma/Maie 1980). I May, Eta graduated its first two alumi i over two decades. They joi the raks of those who motivated ad pushed us throughout the whole process. There is t a brother of Eta who wo t tell you that he was a better ma before Theta Chi tha he is ow. They spet six weeks with Delta Mu workig o recruitmet ad chapter operatios traiig. Dispatches from the Road: Look at your life; look at your choices: Why Theta Chi? BY EDDIE HIGGINBOTHAM, IV (ETA OMICRON/NORTHWESTERN STATE 2010), LEADERSHIP AND EDUCATION CONSULTANT You re hired. We eed you to go to the Uiversity of Texas i two weeks to help save the chapter. Go! There I stood, phoe pressed agaist my ear, jaw dropped, ad eyes the size of golf balls the day before I was to walk across the graduatio stage at Northwester State. As oe could imagie, I was filled with a whirlwid of emotios after I leared that I would be workig for Theta Chi as a Leadership ad Educatio Cosultat a dream of mie for the last two years of college ad that I would be statioed i Austi, TX, doig a expasio project with metor ad fellow cosultat Jimmy Cox (Alpha Delta/Purdue 2010). As I quickly discovered, doig a chapter visit ad doig a expasio project are very differet from oe aother ad each presets its ow uique ad special challeges. As udergraduates, we ofte have somethig tagible to show with our Theta Chi sales pitch. It could be a display case full of awards, a impressive chapter house, or simply eve aother brother that ca passioately vouch for what the Fraterity stads for. I expasio, you have few, if ay, of those thigs. Prospective ew members have o idea who you are ad o real reaso to trust you, ad you oly have oe chace to sell them o why they should joi Theta Chi. This tured everythig that I ever kew about recruitmet upside dow. The problem that I faced is the same that may of us do: we kow how much Theta Chi meas to us, but we are usually ever asked to articulate it. I some istaces, we feel like we ca t articulate it; it s just too hard to put ito words. This realizatio forced me to seriously reflect o my Theta Chi experiece ad evaluate everythig that I ve bee through. I thought about why I joied Theta Chi: the good ad the bad, successes ad failures, lessos I leared alog the way, ad most importatly, the growth that had take place throughout my udergraduate membership. As I started to relive my persoal jourey i Theta Chi, I thought That s it! That s the aswer! What if, istead of havig this elaborate sales pitch, I would simply tell people why I joied? The lesso I leared ad the wisdom that I would like to share with you is the importace of reflectio ad rememberig why you joied Theta Chi i the first place. I charge all of my brothers to take the time to reflect, evaluate ad build upo their experieces, ad to share that message with others. I the first lie of our Creed, we all say, I believe i Theta Chi take the time to kow ad articulate why. Look at your life, look at your choices. Every choice that you make has a direct impact o your life. As I reflect o my life ad the choices that have shaped it thus far, oe choice stads out more tha ay other my decisio to joi Theta Chi Fraterity. Your strogest recruitig tool is your persoal story based o your choice to joi. Do you kow yours? Thaks to the combied efforts of Eddie, Jimmy, local alumi ad earby chapters, Delta Mu iitiated 28 ew members o May 6. THE RATTLE/FALL

"DOC" LELAND (ETA PI/EAST STROUDSBURG 1997) AND AL CALARCO (ETA PI/EAST STROUDSBURG 1978) O e of our Fraterity s oldest ad most cherished traditios is gatherig at our atioal evets. Geeratios of brothers have beefited from these experieces more tha ay oe of us could put ito words. Ievitably, we must be prepared to adjust some of these traditios to help Theta Chi meet ew ad everchagig resposibilities. Last year, for example, we updated the Ritual, our most sacred traditio. Ad this year, we took a look at aother staple of the Theta Chi experiece: our educatioal system. This is a story of chage ad of a courageous experimet desiged to eergize our leadership educatio ad help us get back to the basics of brotherhood. It is a story with a positive edig for our Fraterity ad the youg me we call brothers. A small group of us did some thikig outside the box, ad we decided to go for it. We rolled the dice ad replaced the 26-year-old Chapter Leadership Coferece (CLC) with a ew opportuity The Iitiative Academy. We based it o the best of brotherhood: itimate, experietial, ever-growig, ad ever-ehacig leadership, ad we experieced it together at the Alpha Iota chapter house at Idiaa Uiversity. For four days ad three ights, close to 70 udergraduates ad voluteer faculty members lived together uder oe roof so we could look like ad work as a chapter might i small groups, avigatig ad completig challeges where we would likely ecouter may of the problems ay chapter might ecouter. To roud out the experiece, we cooked up some ew ad uique challeges that could oly be met with trust, hoesty, ad ultimately, leadership. We kew we were doig somethig differet ad that each of us would have to become comfortable with a certai ievitable cofusio. Early o, we accepted the matra, everythig is curriculum. Ad it was: from gettig the guys registered ad settled i, to our first iteractio outdoors fidig the two or three brothers with somethig i commo other tha Theta Chi, we braved the heat ad humidity to build brotherhood aew. I small groups, we were charged with comig up with a missio statemet, ad we were to depict that missio i the form of a badge. We leared that some of us ca draw (most of us ca t); but all of us share a visio ad a directio. We regrouped; we tighteed the bod of the whole; we wet to bed exhausted. 10 THE RATTLE/FALL 2011

11 The ext day, we shared breakfast at 8 a.m. sharp ad the it was off to the races agai. All i all, we experieced frustratio ad leared to maage it, move o, ad prevail. We discovered how to laugh; how to maage pressure; how to trust our brothers, eve whe it does t seem easy. It was all there, ad there i abudace. You might say all of this was to set the stage for the culmiatig evet: the amazig race. While we were [mercifully] oly observers, we had ever see aythig quite like this before. The challeges were physical to be sure, but eve more challegig i that you could oly fid the locatio of the challege usig a set of cryptic clues that had to be deciphered by the group. There was more pressure (it was a race, after all) ad more frustratio (it was hot; it was humid), but by this poit, we kew that what was eeded was ot a idividual hero to lead the charge, but a collective stregth. Each member left The Iitiative Academy havig idetified his ow style of leadership ad a sese of kowig that he ca ow lead ad make a impact o the Fraterity ad beyod. We ca t speak for all who atteded, but we ca say that this experiece raks as oe of our most memorable: oe whose memory we shall cherish; ad oe that we are cofidet promoted the best of what we are as brothers of Theta Chi. We caot tell the brothers of the Academy how grateful we are, how idebted we will remai, for all that they taught us i the four days it was our privilege to be with them. We worked, we played, we came to kow ad respect each other, ad, we thik, to love each other as well. View the video of the Jue Academy at: THE RATTLE/FALL

12 [ IHQ NEWS/ NEW MANUAL Eighteeth editio of The Maual of Theta Chi ow available BY BEN HILL, SENIOR DIRECTOR FOR COLLEGIATE SERVICES I September 2009, whe I was approached by the-executive Director Dale Taylor ad Mike Mayer about revisig The Maual of Theta Chi Fraterity, I aively accepted the resposibility. This will be easy, I thought, just a few quick updates ad this will be ready to publish we ll be ready to have this doe by December ad shipped out i Jauary As I bega work o this humble task I started to realize just how much time ad eergy would be eeded, otig that the completio date would be a floatig target. I bega the task by grabbig a copy of the seveteeth editio ad markig errors ad takig otes o the idividual pages of the book. While searchig for typos that eeded to be corrected, it was astoishig to see how much had chaged withi the Fraterity ad how much of the iformatio had become outdated. It overwhelmed me to see how much the Fraterity had accomplished i 10 years (re)istallatios, Covetios, Deraia Presidets Cofereces, Chapter Leadership Cofereces, awards, etc. ad it devastated me to fid that this iformatio was ot easily accessible. Revisig The Maual brought two uique challeges. The first was that the last editio had bee published i Obviously a lot had chaged ot oly withi Theta Chi, but also i the world. The seveteeth editio had bee completed usig old techiques ad formattig for publicatio othig had bee digitized. Noe of the photos used i the seveteeth editio were readily available i a electroic format, ad i most cases, the origial photo was also owhere to be easily foud. I believe Idiaa Joes had a easier time fidig the Holy Grail. So I huted through decades of items ad artifacts i our archives ad probably flipped through early every editio of The Rattle that the Fraterity has ever published i search of photographs ad iformatio. After meetig with our publisher, we discovered that due to the o-digital format of the seveteeth editio, it would actually be more cost effective for Theta Chi to create a ew versio tha to simply update the seveteeth editio. I recall askig for clarity, so it s actually cheaper to make a whole ew book tha to just modify this old oe? So I elected to create somethig ew while keepig the strogest ad most traditioal parts from the previous editios of our maual. The secod challege was tryig to actively perform my other specific job resposibilities at the Iteratioal Headquarters at the same time that I was workig o the revisios. I still eeded to maitai cotact with our Leadership ad Educatio Cosultats while they were o the road, push ad ecourage coloies to reach the goals for (re)istallatio ad recruit ew brothers to serve as LECs. I recall oe discipliary icidet that occurred o the East Coast that required me to leave the Headquarters to address the situatio. While discouragig, this delay may have helped to spur some creativity that would lead me dow the path to creatig the eighteeth editio. New features This ew editio features a wider size whe compared to the previous editios, which allows for the iclusio of additioal cotet ad photographs ad also aligs better with today s laptops ad tablets, makig it easier to carry. Color was utilized to best exhibit Fraterity isigia, awards, ad other items ad allowed for the iclusio of great photographs of historical figures ad evets. The iside cover provides a record for the idividual member to fill out, ad has bee legtheed with additioal fields so that he may cotiue to fill it out ad complete it 12 THE RATTLE/FALL 2011

13 IHQ NEWS/ NEW MANUAL ] after graduatio. Based o feedback from Theta Chi udergraduates, I shifted the orgaizatio of the Maual to have a more traditioal textbook feel with topical chapters that featured discussio questios at the ed. The eighteeth editio of the Maual icludes 14 chapters coverig a wide spa of iformatio ragig from basic expectatios of members to our symbols, isigia ad traditios, history, atioal goverig structure ad basics of chapter operatios. There is a chapter titled Idividual Resources, which is a updated repritig of the Maers ad Etiquette sectio origially writte by George Starr Lasher for the first editio of the Maual. This editio also features a comprehesive list of every chapter ever istalled, alog with a list of importat historical dates, achievemets, ad otable alumi. Toward the back is a list of all of Theta Chi s kow otable alumi, as well as a directory of udergraduate chapters ad regios, ad a appedix ad extesive idex provide a wide array of historical iformatio. Special Thaks I could ot have doe this o my ow by ay meas. Mike Moxley, Susa Casalii, ad Jody Toth, of our publisher Maury Boyd & Associates, were very patiet with me throughout this process ad provided their time, talets, guidace ad motivatio to help me complete this task. My thaks also must go to the Iteratioal Headquarters staff for assistig me i compilig all of the data ad records to update this editio. Their attetio to detail ad loyalty to the Fraterity is reflected i the pages of this ew editio. I would like to specifically thak Natioal Presidet Doug Alle for sharig photos ad cotributig to the revisios of the history sectio, Past Natioal Presidet Pat O Coor for his iput o Chapter Resources, Bill Simpso for his assistace with Notable Alumi ad Rattle editor Bart Zio for his may hours spet editig. I am additioally grateful to Executive Directors Dale Taylor ad Mike Mayer for their support, ecouragemet ad directio durig this project. A very special thaks also goes to my wife, Eri L. Hill, who took the time to read through the Maual s may drafts, offer suggestios, ad edit ad correct her husbad s may mistakes (all while beig pregat with our daughter!). While the book has chaged from what you may remember, I trust that you will ejoy the chages that have bee made. I hope that all pledges, curret udergraduate members ad alumi fid this a helpful resource ad a source of pride. The first editio of The Maual of Theta Chi Fraterity was published i 1947 ad edited by George Chapma (Omega/Pe State 1920) alog with supplemetal iformatio provided by George Starr Lasher (Alpha Gamma/Michiga 1911). Subsequet editios were edited by Dale Sliviske (Gamma Sigma/Duke 1968) ad Dave Westol (Beta Zeta/Michiga State 1973). Thousads of brothers have beefitted from their expertise ad kowledge whe they first received their copies of the Maual ad likely referred to it later i life as alumi. 15 From player to egotiator to executive, Mark Murphy has always had a solid Game Pla BY KYLE WEAVER (ZETA SIGMA/WISCONSIN-RIVER FALLS 2004) RATTLE CONTRIBUTING WRITER Hardcore Gree Bay Packers fas kow who Mark Murphy is. So do hardcore Theta Chi trivia buffs. Sice early Jauary 2008, Murphy has served as CEO/presidet of the Packers, providig leadership to both the Packers orgaizatio ad the NFL itself. Ad if 2011 is ay idicator, both etities are gettig more tha their moey s worth out of Murphy s leadership skills. O February 6, 2011, the Packers team claimed its 13th league champioship ad fourth Super Bowl victory at Super Bowl XLV. Some five moths later, Murphy, a former Washigto Redskis safety ad NFL Players Associatio represetative, played a key role i resolvig the NFL lockout ad keepig the 2011 NFL seaso o schedule. Servig o the NFL s labor egotiatios committee, Murphy s career experieces as a federal trial attorey, a former NFL player, a NFL players uio represetative ad a athletics executive were touted by may as istrumetal i helpig the league s players ad owers reach a ew collective bargaiig agreemet last July. Mark s rare bled of experieces make him itegral to the future of the Packers ad the NFL, NFL Commissioer Roger Goodell said i a biography o Packers.com. His accomplishmets as a NFL player, his work with the NFLPA, ad ow his leadership of the Packers, provide a uique perspective to the league ad also to the players. Formative years Bor i Fulto, NY, Murphy lived i the Housto area with his family before returig to New York. Because his father worked i labor relatios, Murphy said he grew up aroud collective bargaiig, a fact that likely cotributed to his later career. As a tee, Murphy was a accomplished athlete. He played baseball, basketball ad football at Clarece Cetral High School ad was recogized as the best all-aroud athlete i Wester New York durig his seior year. As he etered Colgate Uiversity, he was beig scouted by Major League Baseball for his baseball talets ad cotiued to play three sports It o doubt takes a lot of leadership skill to make chages i a orgaizatio as large as the Gree Bay Packers, but they are skills Murphy has hoed for may years alog his career path. while i college. But he foud the most success playig football. Colgate was at a much higher level i football tha aythig else, Murphy said. It was a better fit for me. As most udergraduates who joi fraterities do, Murphy made persoal coectios with several Theta Chi members before he joied. He was a member of the Colgate basketball team ad several of his teammates were also Theta Chi members. I those days, Theta Chi had the reputatio of beig the basketball fraterity at Colgate, Murphy said. Murphy wet through formal recruitmet i the sprig of his freshma year ad moved ito the chapter house as a sophomore. He served as his chapter s historia ad washed dishes i the chapter kitche i exchage for a meal pla. I had a good experiece at Theta Chi, he said. Murphy puts a premium o the value of educatio ad touts both the lessos he leared from iteractios with his teammates ad with his fellow Theta Chi brothers as essetial compoets of his educatio. Murphy graduated from Colgate with a bachelor s degree i ecoomics i I got a great educatio at Colgate, Murphy said. Breakig ito the NFL Upo his graduatio, a few NFL teams expressed a iterest i draftig Murphy, but it was t a give that he would make it. Several teams wated Murphy, a safety, to bulk up ad play liebacker. Washigto Redskis head coach George Alle, though, wated him as a safety. Durig the 1977 draft, Alle called Murphy ad asked him to come to Washigto ad told him the team was iterested i draftig him. As it tured out, the Redskis ideed wated him, but they did t wat to draft him. Istead, Alle ad the Redskis hoped he would avoid the draft so they could sig him as a udrafted free aget. The team essetially wated to hide me out, Murphy said. That was my welcome to the NFL momet. At the time, Murphy said, the Redskis had a reputatio for ot likig rookies ad preferred to trade away their draft picks. I what was the a 12-roud draft, hidig players from other teams was t so ucommo, though the tactic is o loger allowed. After his soberig etry ito the league, Murphy foud success i the NFL. He played a total of eight years, his etire o-field career, with the Redskis. Murphy took o leadership roles both o ad off the field for the Redskis orgaizatio. Murphy served as the Redskis team represetative to the NFL Players Associatio ad was the uio s vice presidet through He served o the uio s bargaiig committee durig the 1982 strike ad, amog the league s players ad owers, gaied a reputatio as a stauch egotiator. Back the beig the uio represetative was cosidered to be like smokig cigarettes; it was damagig to your career, Murphy said. They were differet times. While still playig for the Redskis, Murphy cotiued to further his educatio, both because it was somethig he valued ad because he saw himself havig a career beyod the NFL. I ever felt completely secure (with my career i the NFL), Murphy said. It was a good way to help myself. Durig his first off-seaso with Washigto, Murphy bega workig o his Master of Busiess Admiistratio i fiace from America Uiversity. He took courses full-time i the sprig semester ad oe or two courses durig the summer ad fall; he received his degree i Back the, the demads o a player s time were t what they are ow, Murphy said. For a youg attorey, that was very excitig, Murphy said. After his years as a attorey, Murphy was draw back ito the world of athletics. I 1992, Murphy was hired by his alma mater to serve as athletic director. While at Colgate, Murphy moved ito a house three doors up from the Iota chapter house ad served briefly as chapter advisor. At both schools, Murphy said he is as proud of the athletes academic accomplishmets as he is of their o-field accomplishmets. Both uiversities recorded high graduatio rates amog studet-athletes with Murphy at their helms. 16 THE RATTLE/FALL 2011

17 FEATURE/MARK MURPHY ] Wiig a Super Bowl I oly his fourth year as CEO/Presidet of the Packers orgaizatio, Murphy wet alog for the ride as the Packers reached the piacle of their sport durig a ulikely post-seaso ru after the team wet 10-6 ad eared a sixth playoff seed. For Murphy, wiig a Super Bowl last seaso was a icomparable experiece. Though the wi makes him the oly perso i NFL history to wi a Super Bowl title as both a player ad a team s top executive, Murphy was far more excited for the players ad the fas, especially because the wi was fairly uexpected that seaso. I was very excited for our fas, Murphy said. The fas are way supportive of this team the way they travel to away games.... Obviously it was very excitig. Everythig happeed so fast it s a blur. Whe he was haded the Vice Lombardi Trophy i Dallas, Murphy s oly cocer was to get the trophy ito the hads of Gree Bay Packers Geeral Maager Ted Thompso as quickly as possible. Ted has really had the autoomy to put together his team, Murphy said. I just felt it was importat for him to hold [the Lombardi Trophy]. Upo returig to Gree Bay after the Super Bowl, Murphy ad the Packers held a Retur to Titletow evet at Lambeau Field, the Packers stadium. There had bee a fairly sigificat sowstorm the day before the evet; amog the 56,000 fas i the stadium, there were several who rode their sowmobiles to the evet. I still get goose bumps thikig about it, Murphy said. I do t thik I ve ever bee colder tha that. While Murphy is obviously proud of havig wo a Super Bowl as a Redskis player, it does t compare to the excitemet ad gratificatio of wiig the champioship as CEO/presidet of a team, he said. I my curret positio... I uderstad how difficult it really is for a orgaizatio to wi a champioship, Murphy said. With the NFL lockout behid them, the Packers roster back to full health ad the seaso ow i full swig, Murphy aticipates that the Packers will have more success i This year has bee a tryig off-seaso for everyoe, Murphy said. But it has bee the same for everyoe.... I m optimistic. We have a chace to be very good. With Murphy at the helm, a fa might coclude it will help their chaces. O leadership: As Gree Bay Packers Presidet/CEO sice early 2008, Mark Murphy (Iota/Colgate 1977) has give the Packers cosiderable off-field leadership, updatig the orgaizatio s log-term strategic pla ad restructurig the team s maagemet structure ad busiess operatios, ad helpig to revitalize Lambeau Field with a 6,600-seat expasio that will make it the fourth largest stadium i the NFL. It o doubt takes a lot of leadership skill to make chages i a orgaizatio as large as the Gree Bay Packers, but they are skills Murphy has hoed for may years alog his career path. Murphy credits his former coaches, former Washigto Redskis head coach Joe Gibbs ad former Colgate head coach Fred Dulap, with providig the most ifluece o his leadership style. Murphy believes good leaders should surroud themselves with good people, give those people the resources they eed to be successful ad try ot micromaage them. Murphy also believes that a good leader must be accessible, fair ad sicere to people with whom he/she works. A lot of it is simply havig good people skills, beig a effective commuicator ad a good listeer, Murphy said. THE RATTLE/FALL

The preschool where I work as a teacher had just released the majority of its studets for the day, with a few stayig behid for after-school daycare. I worked my way through the crowd ad got back to my school where, thakfully, the staff ad childre were okay. We maaged to slowly get the childre to the evacuatio area.
