APPLICANTS ARE JUDGED ON FIVE CRITERIA: Christia commitmet ad ivolvemet i the life of the Uited Methodist Church Academic achievemet as revealed by trascripts, grade poit averages ad the required letters of referece Jouralistic experiece ad/or evidece of jouralistic talet Clarity of purpose i plas ad goals for the future Potetial professioal ability as a religio jouralist WHEN IS PAYMENT SENT? Oe half of the $6,000 award will be paid after the recipiet provides proof of erollmet i a graduate program i a accredited school or departmet of jouralism i the Uited States. The remaider of the grat will be paid after the recipiet provides proof of erollmet for the sprig term. The grat will ot be paid for summer sessios. His last appoitmet before retiremet i 1975 was as head of the Divisio of Public Media with Uited Methodist Commuicatios. Dr. West was educated at Missouri Wesleya College ad Baker U ivers i ty. He holds degrees from Bo s to U ivers i ty Sch ool of Th eo l ogy ad studied jouralism at Northwester Uiversity. He served terms as rel i gi o ed i tor of the Provi de ce (R.I.)
