1 Broadway Believer O CTOBER 2011 Greetings From Our Pastor Greetings! Fall is in the air and it s a beautiful time to be in East Tennessee. God is about to paint the hills and mountains with the vivid illustration of our changing world, the color of autumn leaves. The Creator made a world that is in a constant state of change, the season remind us of that fact. Even though most of us love the changing seasons, we do not always enjoy the change that comes in our lives and the lives of those we know and love. As someone has said the only people that would like change are babies and they even fuss about it! Broadway Baptist Church is also changing, it is inevitable. In the two plus years that Janey and I have been at BBC, there has been over 50 of our most faithful members graduate to glory. This changes us! The faces that were so much a part of the history of this church are no longer seen in the hallways and in the pews, they are greatly missed by all of us. INSIDE THIS ISSUE: High Attendance 2 Christmas at Broadway 2 Senior Adults 2 Student Ministry 3 Memorials 4 Trunk or Treat 5 Secret Church 6 This creates voids of leadership and maturity; for the ones that we have lost have been faithful in everything from attendance to stewardship. Pray that God will raise-up another generation of committed Christ followers to make up the hedge. We are holding our own and making some small steps toward growth. Sunday School average for this year was 314, which is up from 275 two year ago. Sunday night attendance has also seen some significant growth with more youth and families attending the evening services. One of the greatest areas of praise is in the area of debt reduction; we have lowered the debt from around 900, a couple of years ago to about 320,000 at the present time; to God be the glory! With everyone s continued support the debt should be paid off by the beginning of MINISTERIAL STAFF Rev. Tony Collins, Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Glendon Thompson, President of the Toronto Seminary will be our guest speaker. Glendon is a powerful preacher who focuses upon a cross centered message, we are very fortunate that he is willing to come share God s Word with us at BBC. Make plans now to invite friends and neighbors that need to hear God s Word! We will also have High Attendance in Sunday School that morning, let s fill every class room with people excited about the Word! 2 P AGE 2 Senior Adult October Outing to the Farmer s Daughter Restaurant In Chuckey, TN. on Friday, October 21, 2011 If you like good down-home country cooking, you will want to reserve a seat at the table at the Farmer s Daughter Restaurant in Chuckey, TN near Erwin for a family style lunch on Friday, October 21, Their menu lists fried chicken, baked chicken, country ham, steak-n-gravy, chicken livers, and four kinds of fried fish as well as a wide assortment of vegetables and desserts. The cost is $16.00 per person including drink, dessert, tax & tip and it is all you can eat. Next door to the restaurant is Mountain View Bulk Food Store, an Amish store, which features nuts, spices, flours, meats, cheese, home-baked goods, beef jerky (which they make), and other general store items. We have 34 places reserved for an 11:30 a.m. seating and the number will have to be confirmed on October 14. Sign up sheets are on the table near the Senior Adult SS Department. You will need to bring your camping chair, any outdoor game and there is a pond for anyone who wants to fish just bring your fishing pole.
