1 ST. PAUL S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH JANUARY 2015 NEWSLETTER HAPPY NEW YEAR The trouble with writing an article for the January newsletter is that you have to do it so early, as in mid-december. Christmas has not happened yet, no plans have been made for New Year's Eve and my heart and soul are not in the future. They are on the cake I am baking for Christmas Day and whether I will have to put another leaf in the dining room table. This morning I saw a poster on Facebook that said: "Old Year...Thanks for the lessons. "New Year...I am ready." I thought that maybe the poster who put this on their timeline is like my friend Candy who has her Christmas shopping done by October and is never late or unorganized for anything. These are the kinds of people who are probably ready for this New Year. The rest of us, well, not so much. And that is okay because whether it will turn out to be a great year, a mediocre year, or God forbid, a bad year, we walk with the one who comes at Christmas into a human life and human time. He comes to live our life and experience our ways. And that makes 2015 a God Filled Year. Thanks be for that. THANK YOU I thank all of you in the congregation who wrote such heartfelt and wonderful Christmas cards. As you may guess, it is impossible for me to respond to each and everyone personally in one of the busiest seasons of my church year. But know that my appreciation and thanks run deep. Pastor Anne 1

2 Thanks for walking together Members and friends from Saint Paul Lutheran Church joined folks from Tree of Life Lutheran Church at Slate Hill Mennonite Church to bake about 5,000 cookies as a fun fund-raiser for tech4tanzania. The cookies ran out the doors as donors gave $1,400 for the food and homemade crafts at the event. Together we are Changing the world for good, tech4tanzania.org. NEWSLETTER NOTES are due in the Church office by the 10 th of each month. You can put a written copy in secretary s mail slot in narthex or them to stpaulsenola@yahoo.com. PASTOR REEVES OFFICE HOURS: Pastor Reeves is in the office most mornings Monday thru Thursday. Her day off is Saturday. If you would like to meet with her, please schedule an appointment if possible. BE A SPONSOR Altar Flowers: Altar flowers beautify the sanctuary for worship, and can be given by congregation members in honor of or in memory of loved ones. The price is $17.50 for one vase or $35 for two vases. If interest in sponsoring weekly altar flowers, please fill out the Flower/Bulletin Chart in the upper Sunday School room on bulletin board. Bulletins: Sponsors for bulletins are also accepted. The cost is $15.00 per week. These can be in honor of or in memory of loved ones or to the Glory of God. If interested you can fill out the Flower/Bulletin Chart in the upper Sunday School room. You will be notified via a postcard usually the month prior to your sponsorship. 2

3 NEW HOPE MINISTRY FOOD COLLECTION is the 1 st Sunday of each month, but if you forget bring it in the next Sunday you attend. Our last delivery was 45 lbs. plus money donations. They currently need the following items: Canned Vegetables, Peanut butter, Canned Fruit, Canned Tuna, Shampoo & Conditioner. Thank you. St. Paul s Lutheran Church Council Minutes - December 9, 2014 Present: Steve Casella, Wendy Cekovich, Tim Morgan, MaryJane McMillan, Chris Frampton, Ron Shawler, Steve Hoffmaster, Pastor Anne Rose Reeves, and Lana Stitzel. The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Pastor Anne offered devotions. Ron Shawler was elected as Council President. Chris Frampton was elected as Council Vice President. Lana Stitzel was elected as Council Secretary. Secretary s Report: A motion was made by Chris Frampton to accept- 2 nd by Tim Morgan. Motion carried. Treasurer s Report: A motion was made by Wendy Cekovich to accept- 2 nd by Steve Casella. Motion carried. Pastor s Report: (No written report) Working on Christmas services and bulletins. Monday, will be a quiet meditation service. Had a great advent festival. Turned in evaluations for Jay Eckman. Took pictures of the new additions/renovations of the playground, downstairs, garden boxes, etc. to take to the shut-ins on home communion visits. January 18, Pastor Anne and her husband, Randy will be on a 12 day cruise. A motion was made by Wendy Cekovich to accept- 2 nd by Steve Casella. Motion carried. Old Business: Renovation Committee Update: Need to paint the cupboards and vents in the nursery. A door will be put up to cover the open closet. The walk through is coming up. Stains on countertop need looked 4

5 into. The gas is hooked up- needs check for leaks. New furniture and accessories are being looked into for the Narthex and the nursery. We need to purchase paper towel holders, trash cans, and changing tables for downstairs and the upstairs bathrooms. Audit- Gary Stitzel will do it when the information is given to him. Ministry Reports: Christian Education: Working on a calendar for next year. Property: A timer for the front porch will be in and a fan for the choir loft will be installed A motion was made by Chris Frampton to accept the Ministry Reports- 2 nd by Wendy Cekovich. Motion carried.
