1 ST. PAUL S NEWS July 2018 PASTOR S COLUMN Ahhhh...summer! Yes, we are at the height of summer. Parents have not yet started to wish that their kids were back in school. The kids aren t bored quite yet because the pools are open, camps are in full swing and vacations are on the schedule. I have said many times already that summer is my absolute favorite season of the year. I love being able to go on my morning walk in just shorts and a t-shirt; no more bundling up at 6:00 in the morning. I love sitting on our front porch in the evening and inviting passers-by for some conversation or a glass of wine. And I love the smell of grilling food, long days and not wearing heavy clothes. I think I will have to seriously consider moving to warmer climates in my retirement; or at least become a semi-snowbird who can shorten the winter months by taking a month or two in the sun. Who knows... But for now, I am enjoying every moment God and Mother Nature are granting us in this part of the world. And give thanks, lots of thanks, for all of it. ~Pastor Anne What Are They Reading?? Pastor Anne s class meets pretty much every Sunday at 10:30 am in the conference room of our parish house. The class has read a number of books, discussed lots of topics and engaged each other in conversation. They are having a great time! The class started a new read at the end of June Inspired, a new book by Rachel Held Evans. Here is what Amazon has to say: If the Bible isn't a science book or an instruction manual, then what is it? 2 WINE & CHEESE & JESUS......continues with one event in July. As in June (which was a huge success), we will have a guest tell us his or her faith story. Then we will enjoy some conversation and reflections of our own. You may bring an adult beverage for yourself and to share with others. Snacks and refreshments are always very welcome. Please join us on July 11, 7-8:30pm, in the church pavilion and mark your calendar for the next one on 8/8! VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL All kids 5 th grade and younger are invited to blast to the past this year beginning Sunday, July 22 through Thursday, July 26 th, 6-8:15pm, at Zion Lutheran Church, 265 N. Enola Dr., Enola. Nursery is provided and adults are welcome to tag along with their kids or attend the Adult Offerings. Contact the church office to register or complete & return the registration form attached to the Newsletter. FAITH IN ACTION Please read the Lutheran World Relief article included in this Newsletter. This is your call to fill up those bags with school supplies - watch for those backto-school sales! Our congregation tries to send over 200 school bags across the world. And bags for this year are in production now... What a worthwhile ministry! VBS Adult Offerings While your children or grandchildren enjoy blasting to the past, please join in the adult classes held during the same time. Learn about Moses, Rahab, David and more! VBS Craft Supplies Needed Don t throw away those widemouthed jars! Please wash them and donate them for craft night at VBS. They can be placed on a table in the upper Sunday School room. GET YOUR SANDWICHES! Sandwich orders are due on Thursday, July 19 th and will be made and ready for pickup/delivery on Tuesday, July 24 th. Ham or Turkey & Cheese ($2.50) or Roast Beef & Cheese ($3.50) include lettuce, pickles, mustard & mayonnaise on the side. All proceeds benefit local community needs. 3 WHO IS SHE, ANYWAY? By now you have probably heard that there is a new face at St. Paul s. Or a new voice over the phone or a new name at the end of s.... I am very pleased to be that newbie. Pastor Anne thought you might want to know a bit about me (so continue reading if you do). Originally from Chambersburg, I now live in Mechanicsburg with my husband, two children, and two German Shepherd Dogs. We are long-time members of First Presbyterian Church in Carlisle where I recently completed serving two consecutive 3-year terms as an ordained elder. I hold a master s degree in Administration of Justice and prior to becoming a full-time stay-at-home mom, I was a Senior Special Investigator with the PA Office of Inspector General. Through the years, I kept active as a volunteer and leader in school, church, and the community. When I am not busy being a mom and your new Secretary/Office Manager, I also work as a guest teacher for area schools and a research coordinator for a non-profit organization. I look forward to getting to know you and supporting St. Paul s, its members, and its many wonderful outreach and service programs. ~Ann Gottlieb GOD & GROCERIES Pastor Anne has moved to Wegmans! Only only on Mondays, that is. So whether you are there for groceries, or make a special trip, stop by to see her in the Café from 11:00am to 12:30pm! Tell your friends! MAKE IT JINGLE! Don t forget to gather and donate your change for our noisy offering on July 22 nd. It will benefit the staff and pastors of the Lake Tanganyiha Diocese.
