9 Notes from Angela - Angela Tonjes Choir Choir practices continue on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 in the sanctuary. In November we will be working hard on music for Advent and Christmas. Our songs for this month include Sanctuary, Are You dressed for the Wedding?, Down in the Valley to Pray (special request), and Song for the Unsung Hero which will be sung at the 10:30 service on November 8 to honor all veterans. On Wednesday, November 25, practice will be held at 6:00 p.m. with Thanksgiving worship to follow. Living Spirit Living Spirit continues to rehearse each Wednesday from 7:30-8:30 in the sanctuary. The special number for the third Sunday in November is the traditional hymn, I ll Fly Away. NO REHEARSAL on Wednesday, November 25. We occasionally have been printing the lyrics to our contemporary songs in the bulletin in order to familiarize the congregation with new music! Emanubells Emanubells has been rehearsing at 5:30 p.m. for 30 minutes on Wednesday. This will continue in November. Songs are being prepared for the 10:30 service on November 1 and the 8:00 service on November 8. After School Club After School Club has started again and the children come to church each Wednesday from 3:15-5:00. They have a great time with snacks, music, crafts, Bible stories, and games. The children will be ringing and singing at different places around Napoleon throughout the school year. NO After School Club on Wednesday, November 25 (no school that day). All Saints Day On Sunday, November 1, All Saints Day is celebrated. White carnations will be handed out that morning for members to place on the altar in remembrance of loved ones who have died. You may take your carnation home after church. Veterans Day Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11 and honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. On Sunday, November 8, there will be special music and recognition of Emanuel s veterans at both services. (Continued on next page) -9-
10 (continued from previous page) Advent The season of Advent begins on Sunday, November 29. Advent is the first season of the church year which includes the four Sundays before Christmas. It is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the birth of Jesus. The Advent wreath has four blue candles symbolizing hope, peace, joy, and love. The wreath itself is an image of everlasting life, the crown of Jesus, and a victory wreath. Lighting candles in the winter season of growing darkness reminds us to let the light of Jesus shine through us for the whole world to see. The first blue candle of the Advent wreath will be lit in November. Emanuel members will take part in this. Church Decorating The church will be decorated for Christmas on November 28. Help is needed! Thanks... Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. Psalm 95:2 Thank you, Emanuel, for being a blessing to the Tonjes family all the year long! Community Thanksgiving Service Wednesday, November 25, 2015 First Presbyterian Church Washington & Webster Street Napoleon, Ohio Mark your calendars!! -10-
