SECOND READING: 1 Timothy 2:1 7 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings 2 be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all 3 godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4who desires everyone to be saved and to 5 come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human, 6who gave himself a ransom for all 7 this was attested at the right time. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. We are born children of a fallen humanity; in the waters of Baptism we are reborn children of God and inheritors of eternal life. By water and the Holy Spirit we are made members of the Church which is the body of Christ. As we live with him and with his people, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God. Parents and Sponsors: I present Audrey Kate Schroeder to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. P In Christian love you have presented this child for Holy Baptism. You should, therefore, faithfully bring her to the services of God's house, and teach her the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments. As she grows in years, you should place in her hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for her instruction in the Christian faith, that, living in the covenant of her Baptism and in communion with the Church, she may lead a godly life until the day of Jesus Christ. C It is right to give him thanks and praise. P Holy God, mighty Lord, gracious Father: We give you thanks, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and you created heaven and earth. By the gift of water you nourish and sustain us and all living things. By the waters of the flood you condemned the wicked and saved those whom you had chosen, Noah and his family. You led Israel by the pillar of cloud and fire through the sea, out of slavery into the freedom of the promised land. In the waters of the Jordan your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Spirit. By the baptism of his own death and resurrection your beloved Son has set us free from the bondage to sin and death, and has opened the way to the joy and freedom of everlasting life. He made water a sign of the kingdom and of cleansing and rebirth. In obedience to his command, we make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Pour out your Holy Spirit, so that she who is here baptized may be given new life. Wash away the sin of her who is cleansed by this water and bring her forth as an inheritor of your glorious kingdom. To you be given praise and honor and worship through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Strengthen them in their own Baptism so they may share eternally with their child the salvation you have given them, through Jesus Christ our Lord. WELCOME A Through Baptism God has made this new sister a member of the priesthood we all share in Christ Jesus, that we may proclaim the praise of God and bear his creative and redeeming Word to all the world. 8 On the radio Our church service is being broadcast on WNDH FM every Sunday morning in September at 10:30 a.m. Baptism We are privileged to witness the baptism this morning of Audrey Kate, daughter of Tom and Cheryl Schroeder. Audrey s sponsors are Susie Perry, Nathan Wiechman, Amy Schroeder, and Michael Schroeder. Altar flowers Flowers are given to the glory of God by Terry & Ruth Hershberger in honor of their 16 th wedding anniversary; and by Tom & Wendy Schroeder. Funeral Pastor Castello conducted the out-of-town funeral this past week for Walter Thomson. We pray for God s comfort to all who mourn. Wedding Congratulations and God s blessings to Mr. & Mrs. Jeffrey (Abbey Schwab) Haudenshild who were married here yesterday. Plentiful harvest If you have had an abundant harvest with your garden this year, please feel free to bring any of the fresh produce that you cannot use to be given out to the folks at Soul Food. They welcome it, and it s an easy way for you to share what you have so much of... well, that AND God s love! Dartball The first dartball match for 2013 will be played here at Emanuel on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. For those who have been playing dartball in the past, please call Bill Panning at and let him know if you are going to continue playing or not. For those who have not been playing and would like to, please call Bill and let him know you are interested. New schedules are on the bulletin board in the hallway across from the office. Also, the tournament for next March is scheduled to be held here at Emanuel. Hand Mime We are hoping to work up a hand mime for the Thanksgiving Eve service this year based on the Mark Schultz song, I Am. This is definitely an effort requiring may hands to make light the work. We usually practice during the Sunday School hour. If you would like to be a part of this, please see Angela Tonjes or Carol Castello. Conference Women of the Church Missionary Offering If you have already contributed to the support of the Conference Women s Missionary sponsorship, a big THANK YOU. If you still haven t done so, please prayerfully consider a donation and make it by the end of September. Envelopes for this purpose were included with the July-August newsletter and there are also envelopes at the entrances to the church. Or use a plain envelope and mark it Missionary Sponsorship. The Lord commanded that we go into all the world and preach the gospel. We can t all go out as missionaries, but we can help support those who do! Place your marked offering in the offering plate, leave at the office, give to your circle leader, or Janice Rohrs or Dora Titgemeyer. Thanks very, very much! Caring Corner It s time for Lutheran World Relief Kits. (From Lutheran World Relief...) Pens and pencils, a toothbrush, a quilt...ordinary items we take for granted become treasures in the hands of their recipients. The items you send will be cherished and used by people who take nothing for granted, for whom even a simple bar of new soap is special. Your gifts of time and resources toward making LWR Quilts and Kits are beautiful expressions of God s love and grace to those in greatest need. Thank you for your partnership in putting them together. There are several ways you can be a part of this great ministry. On the Caring Corner table there are instructions on the different kits (Personal Care, Baby, Fabric, School). There are empty School Kit Bags already made so all you have to do is fill it. If you don t sew or cannot be a part of a kit-making project, please consider donating to the Women of the Church to be donated to LWR Quilt and Kit Shipping Fund. For every $1 you give someone in need receives $8 worth of essential personal items.
