LUCAS LUTHERAN CHURCH NEWS Sunday, October 7th Sunday, October 14th Sunday, October 21st Sunday, October 30 th WORSHIP SCHEDULE St. Lucas Prayer List none St. Lucas Lutheran Cemetery Association Rules and Regulations Effective January 1, 2016 ~Memorial Day flowers and decorations are permitted one week before and one week after Memorial Day. ~Flowers and decorations at other times must not interfere with the maintenance and care of the cemetery. Removal of these will be at the discretion of the cemetery board. ~No planting of trees or plants is permitted. ~Cremated remains may not be scattered anywhere in the cemetery. The remains must be in a container and buried within a burial space approved by the cemetery board. ~The St. Lucas Cemetery assumes no responsibility for vandalism or defacing of interment lots. ~The cemetery board reserves the right to change these rules and regulations as they deem necessary for the operation of the cemetery. No notice of such intended changes shall be required.

7 OTHER NEWS: THANK YOU: The family of Hiram Thostenson wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation for your many acts of kindness food to the house, memorial gifts, flowers, WELCA for serving the lunch, and any other kind deed. We are very thankful and appreciative. CLEANING DAYS SCHEDULED: Church council has decided to have a volunteer cleaning night once a month on the second Tuesday of the month starting at 6:00 p.m. All members interested in giving of their time to beautify our worship space, it would be most appreciated. Youth interested in doing a service project...this might be for you! The next cleaning night will be Tuesday, October 9 th, starting at 6:00 p.m. If you are unable to help at that time, you could volunteer to clean at a different time by getting a key from the Enger s, Tusberg s, or the Engel s across the street from the church. Many hands make light work! HANLEY FALLS SENIOR CITIZENS BAZAAR will be held on Wednesday, October 17 th, at the Legion Hall from 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Raffle tickets are available from Senior Citizens and at the City Clerk s Office. The raffle is for a Queen Size Quilt, 2 Crafts by Bear Hugs, and a Tote and Towel Combo. Lunch will be served featuring BQ s, Ham Buns, Beans, Chips, and Baked Desserts. Embroidered Dish Towels will be available for sale, Bake Sale, and White Elephant. OCTOBER ONE THING : Each month YMLC will be focusing on doing one thing to tangibly serve and show the love of Christ to others here in Hanley Falls, Southwest Minnesota, and around the world! In October the One Thing will be a winter wear drive. Please bring in new or gently used coats, hats, mittens, boots. There will be a box in the Narthex for your donations. Please help make someone s winter a little bit warmer. Thank you! HALLOWEEN "CAKE WALK" and HOTDISH EXTRAVAGANZA!--Sunday, October 28 ~ The Stewardship Committee will be having a fundraiser meal on Sunday Oct. 28 following church. Come and enjoy some of your favorite hotdishes! Free Will donation to go towards the narthex remodeling fund. We will also be having a cake walk. All age children are invited. Donations of Halloween/Autumn inspired cakes and cupcakes are needed. There will be a sign-up sheet in the narthex or contact Carrie Jeseritz Page 7 October 2018

8 YELLOW MEDICINE LUTHERAN CHURCH WELCA September 11, :00 p.m. The September WELCA meeting was held at 2:00 p.m. in the church basement. Those attending were Judy Ristau, Co-chairperson, Carol Rikke, Co-Chairperson, Carol Tusberg, Cindy Velde, and Sandee Meyer. Judy Ristau opened the meeting with prayer. Cindy Velde gave devotions and a prayer. Carol Tusberg read the minutes from our July 10, 2018, meeting and they were approved. Carol Tusberg read a thank you from the Hiram Thostenson family. There was no old business. New business: A check for $ will be given to the Sunday School for materials. This motion was made by Cindy Velde and seconded by Sandee Meyer. Also, a check for $2, will be given to YMLC at Christmas time to help with expenses. This motion was made by Carol Rikke and seconded by Cindy Velde. All were approved. The Fall Convention will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, in Madison, MN. Bible Study is being held the 1 st and 3 rd Tuesdays of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the church basement. Judy Ristau will ask Annette Sharkey to order Thank Offering envelopes that we can use in November. New Ideas: Change the cover on our booklet Examples are Women of Action or Women on the Move. Get boxes for Love Offerings. Derrald Meyer will design and make the wooden boxes. Need to explain what love offering is used for. Plan to start January Current Officers are: Judy Ristau resigned from co-chairwoman. Carol Rikke will assist Co-Chairwomen. Carol Engel will be Secretary Carol Tusberg & Jean Nelson-Anderson are Co-Treasurers Cindy Velde is in charge of Mission Growth The Treasurer s report was read. 9 Healing Waters Parish Council Meeting Minutes (Unapproved) September 6th, 2018, 6:30 pm Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Jolene Johnson. A quorum was in attendance. Present: Jolene Johnson, Chery Stensrud, Byron Kompelien, Kim Kvam, Dave Kvam, Adam Isaacs, Elmo Volstad, Tim Velde, Nancy Chasteen,,, support staff Angie Thostenson Absent: offered devotions Secretary s Report: Motion was made and seconded to accept the secretary s report. Motion carried. Congregation Council Reports: Augustana has not met since last meeting. Bergen has Rally Sunday in September. St. Lucas has not met since the last meeting. Yellow Medicine has Rally Sunday in September. Mike Oftedahl will be teaching Confirmation this year. Financial Report: financial report for August was received and filed subject to approval by audit. Pastoral/Staff Reports: Pastor Olson reported that everything is going well and he will be guiding us through the next steps. Old Business: New Business: Thanksgiving Worship/Pulpit Supply Yellow Medicine (6:00 pm) and Bergen (7:30 pm) will have worship on Thanksgiving Eve. No pulpit supply needed as Pr. Quist will lead both worship services. Confirmation Mike Oftedahl will teach this year. Starts on September 19 th Budget discussed Visitation List bring list back to individual councils, make changes, and return to Angie to update FLY Bank Account On December 31 st, 2018 the amount in the account will be divided by 4 and a check will be written to YMLC for their portion.
