3 The View Point ISSUE 2 Fall 17 Welcome Back to The View Point! This is my first official opportunity in print to say Thank You! for the wonderful welcome you have given Robin, I and our girls to Enid and the Willow View Church Family. We feel so very blessed to be sharing this one and only life with each of you and look forward to all that the Lord has in store for us! Remember, God is good all the time and all the time God is good! I don t know how your summer has gone, but ours has certainly been a whirlwind! We ve packed a house to move and unpacked a house at the parsonage! (We still have one available For Sale in Edmond!). We ve said Good-bye to great friends at First Church in OKC and are meeting new friends here at Willow View not to mention our good neighbors too! We re learning names lots of names and facesand forgetting quite a few as well! Thanks for wearing name tags and helping us with your names while we are learning yours (I believe we ll be bringing name tags back in September to help us all get to know each other better and especially our guests. It really is an act of hospitality!). We ve also experienced loss this summer as we celebrated the life of Robin s father Art Raboy and my last Oklahoma Aunt Peggy Banks. We also added the very first wedding of one of our children Hannah Elizabeth to Mikal on July 20 th and squeezed in a 3 day excursion to Wonderful Wichita! We had a most memorable time at The Nifty Nut House. I always said that s where we might end up! We re learning the streets of Enid (Van Buren and Garriott in particular), St. Mary s and Bass Hospitals, some local restaurants and telling people we meet about Willow View on Purdue! What a wonderful church family to be an active part of as we discovered time and again on our summer Listening Tour. It was so much fun to be in 10 of your homes and to get to listen and visit face to face with so many of you in these first two months! Life is all about relationships and we re looking to build some great ones here with you! Take time to read about some of the great things happening right here at Willow View on Purdue! 4 Church Summer Camps Willow View had 21 kids attend 4 different United Methodist summer camps at Canyon Camp in Hinton, Oklahoma. Summer camp is a great way to help kids grow deeper in their faith. Thank you to all those that gave generously to the Communion Offering and the Sunday School classes that gave special offerings to the church camp fund this year. Your giving is making a difference in the lives of our children and youth!

6 Getting To Know Pastor Mark Robert Barron To Know Christ and make Him Known, appears on the business card of Mark McAdow, our new pastor at Willow View United Methodist Church. I had the opportunity to interview him recently for The View Point. Pastor Mark shared how he wants to join God in what He is doing in the Enid community. Willow View is a very friendly, loving, caring congregation. It has healthy attendance and it's encouraging to see a church so active and vibrant, McAdow said. He has recently concluded a ten event Listening Tour, where members gathered in each other s homes to share with Pastor Mark their hopes and dreams for Willow View Church. Those listening tours provided an opportunity for Mark and his wife Robin to get to know their new church family better and will hopefully result in pursuing new outreach ministries here at home and beyond. He believes in being active in the community and finding ways to minister outside just the present Willow View congregation. I believe in the Kingdom of God and supporting The Kingdom first according to Matthew 6:33, Seek first The Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you. One of our first new Enid community events to participate in was The Walk to End Alzheimer s held in Enid in August. We sponsored a Willow View Team led by Debbie Hodges and several of our members actively participated in the fundraising Walk. Pastor Mark is an active runner and recently finished his first half marathon at the OKC National Memorial Marathon in April, in remembrance of the 168 killed in the Murrah Federal Building Bombing on April 19, The bombing caused considerable damage to First United Methodist Church where Mark served as Senior Pastor and our former Pastor Lesly now serves as well. The church is located directly across the street from the former Murrah Federal Building and now National Memorial site. First Church has a very special relationship with The National Memorial, helping to serve as the informal host site for The Marathon every year according to Mark. On his desk stands a wooden carving of two hands clinging to a cross. The statue was given to him as a special gift at the 22 nd Anniversary Memorial Service of Remembrance in appreciation for his service to the OKC National Memorial. It is made from a branch of the Survivor Tree. Pastor Mark is also a Coca-Cola fan. It is his favorite beverage of choice. He is an avid collector of small antique Coca Cola Memorabilia though he s running out of room to display many items. You can see some of his collection in his church office! He also enjoys working in the yard and landscaping, though he has two Dachshunds Murphy and Maci - who enjoy undoing some of his yard work. He also enjoys watching and playing golf, but admits he rarely has time to play except in Scramble Charity events. Pastor Mark McAdow is originally from Tulsa, though his Mom Donna was born here in Enid. His grandfather Russell Burner worked for The Frisco Railroad here. He graduated from Tulsa University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While there he was actively involved in our United Methodist campus ministry The Wesley Foundation - where he met his future wife Robin. Robin is a native of Long Island, N.Y., and graduated from Oral Roberts University with a degree in

7 Biblical Studies. After graduation from T.U., he spent a year as a Graduate Intern at The Wesley Foundation before attending Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, where he graduated in 1986 with a Masters in Divinity degree. The best thing Oral Roberts ever did for me was to bring me my bride! I always wanted to marry an ORU girl because they are beautiful, godly and gifted. Robin is certainly that! said Mark, whose been married to Robin for 33 years. Mark has several favorite Christian authors including: John Ortberg, If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat, Francis Chan, Crazy Love, Jim Cymbala, Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire, Pastor of Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York City and Henry Blackaby's Experiencing God which he hopes to introduce to Willow View next year. He has also been involved in two Franklin Graham Evangelistic Festivals in Oklahoma and has had the privilege of meeting Franklin a couple of times. He also shares his November 7 th birthday with Rev. Billy Graham exactly 40 years apart. He has enjoyed long tenures at Asbury United Methodist in Tulsa as Senior Associate for 12 years and as Senior Pastor at First Church in Oklahoma City for the last 10 years. Welcome Pastor Mark and Robin to Willow View! Pastor Mark enjoys running. He recently completed his first and last half marathon. The McAdow Family: Mark, Robin, Matthew, Hannah, and Lauren. Matthew lives in California where he works for Bedrock Sandals. Hannah, their adopted daughter from Russia and who was recently married, lives in Edmond and works for a The Aloft Hotel in Oklahoma City. Lauren will be a sophomore in college at Oklahoma State, where she is majoring in elementary education. They also have two infamous dogs Murphy & Maci! 8 Fall 2017 Willow View Welcome Fall Festival Be sure to invite you family and friends to join us for our annual Willow View Fall Festival on Tuesday, October 31 from 6-8 p.m.. We will have games, inflatables, and snacks available. There will also be a drawing for a free Amazon Kindle Fire. Are you new to Willow View? Want to learn more about our church? Join us for lunch and a tour of the entire church facility when we have our Willow View Welcome on Sunday, September 24 after The Oasis service. If you are interested in attending please RSVP to Emily in the church office. Just a reminder...we will need donations of candy and soda and volunteers to help with the setup, cleanup and games. Thanks for your willingness to help and have some fun too!

9 Back To School Breakfast September 10 there will be an All Church Breakfast during the Sunday School hour. All are invite to join us for food and fellowship. There will also be a special presentation by each adult Sunday School class about what their class is currently focusing on as well. It s Back to (Sunday) School time! Church Thanksgiving Sunday to Serve Join us as we bring the mission field to Willow View. We will have Stamp Out Starvation here again to package meals for the hungry on Sunday, November 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. We will also be collecting supplies for Operation Christmas Child and canned food for Bethany Food Pantry. Come roll up your sleeves and help people from Enid to Haiti! You will be blessed! We will be celebrating our Willow View church family Thanksgiving on Sunday, November 19. We will have a combined worship at 10:00 a.m. and an All Church Thanksgiving Dinner at 11:30 a.m. Come hungry, leave happy! 10 Haiti Mission Summer 2018 By gayle Healy Remember the Lenten season and all the luxuries we counted daily and the money we donated to the Shoes for Haiti project? And remember donning those oh so attractive plastic head coverings for Stamp Out Starvation, and then measuring, bagging, weighing, sealing and boxing all that food? Well, here s your chance to see that hard work and money put to good use in person! In the summer of 2018 Willow View will be leading a group to Haiti for a week at the Respire School, for a once in a lifetime, not to be missed experience. We would like to take some people with medical and construction experience, and any others to do whatever needs doing! If you read the last ViewPoint, you know that these restavec (stay with) children have so little and are grateful for anything that we so easily take for granted. But mostly, the children love sharing time with us. They are truly delightful to be around. And, as always happens on a mission trip, you take home much more than you gave. Hopefully, during Lent, we realized how very fortunate we are. Please prayerfully consider making this commitment to show these precious children how much God truly cares for them.
