From the Catechism Whether extraordinary or simple and humble, charisms are graces of the holy Spirit which directly or indirectly benefit the Church, ordered as they are to her building up, to the good of men, and to the needs of the world. This is hard for some people to accept and realize. We are ALL gifted, we ALL have a call to use our gifts in the service of others. How can you begin to find what your gifts are and how to use them? Begin to explore the process of Discernment learn what the Charisms are, learn how you might have been gifted. How can you begin? Begin the journey, discover and discern your Charism. I promise it is worth it. Each location listed below will host Part I which will guide you through a practical understanding of the Charisms and how they are played out in daily life. Upon discerning what Charism the Holy Spirit has given you, Part II of the workshop helps you use these gifts by the eyes, ears, hands, and feet of Jesus to everyone around you. 7 GREEN / WHITE SEPTEMBER 2, 2018 Embrace God s silence, Eucharistic Adoration, every hour of every day. Jesus said to his apostles, Come by yourselves to an out-of-the way place and rest a little. People were coming and going in great numbers, making it impossible for them to so much as eat. Jesus and the apostles went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place. You can put yourself in that scene for an hour each week at the St. Bernard Adoration chapel. (You won t need the boat!) Just the Lord and yourself, alone in that perfect quiet adoration place. Pray in your own way. Or ask the Lord to help you answer a few simple questions: *How am I doing? *Am I living up to your expectations for me? *What should I be doing this fall and beyond? Listen in the chapel; you ll be amazed how often and how well the Lord answers whatever your questions might be. Call a coordinator and volunteer to fill an open hour. Volunteer to fill an hour that fits your schedule any week. Call Russ Anzalone, Marlene Murray, Pat or Charlie Murray, Sue McHugh, Mary Powers, Matt Casey or Deb Thelen. Any coordinator will help find a convenient hour for you. If you have additional questions or information, call Tom Murray at ** RCIA - WHO SHALL I BRING? The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few, so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. (Luke 10:2) Those are the words of Christ when he sent out the seventytwo to spread the Good News of the Kingdom of God. Pope Gregory the Great (Feast day Sept 3) shared these words some 600 years ago: It is indeed regrettable that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, there is no shortage of people to hear the good news, what is missing are the people to spread it. These are words that apply to us today. It is a reminder that our ministry cannot focus inwardly, but must focus out into the community. Today let s reach out to a group that likely were not in Pope Gregory s thoughts. In his book Choosing to be Catholic: For the First Time or Once Again, Father William J O Malley reminds us that there are many Catholics who became disenchanted with the Church and drifted away from it. He invites them to take another look with these words, Those longest away will find the Church has changed a great deal. It is surely not the unbending hierarchical institution I myself was introduced to a half century ago. There is much more give in the Church and in church people than there was then, much more heartfelt encouragement to read scripture, to figure out doctrinal problems for oneself and to come to a personally validated conclusion. On the local level, the parish is much more a serving community, a segment of The People of God missioned by Christ just as much as the clergy, no longer merely an us who follow them. In this sense returning to full involvement in the Church is slightly more unnerving than it was long ago. The members are no longer sheep but fellow shepherds. The RCIA process offers an excellent opportunity for each of us to reach out to someone who has drifted away and invite them to Come and See what today s Church is all about. It makes no difference why they drifted away, the important thing is for us to let them know that they are not forgotten and are welcome. Perhaps a conversation and a personal invitation may provide them with a sense of assurance that there will be companionship as they begin the journey to come home. Our Inquiry sessions begin Wednesday, September 12, in the church hall. Remember the coffee pot is always on and All Are Welcome! For more information, please contact: Howard Hunt (763) , Roxanne Birchfield , or Deacon Al Genna
