4 PURPLE / WHITE FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT EASTER EGG HUNT The Annual Easter Egg hunt will be held on Sunday, April 1, 2018 after the 9:00a.m. Mass. It will take place on the Parish Grounds next to the Parish Hall. More information will follow next week. This event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. **************************** WEDNESDAY GOLF LEAGUE Bring a friend and see if this group fits you. There will be a kickoff breakfast on Wednesday, March 21 at 9:00a.m. in the church hall. St. Bernard Women s Club annual Spring Luncheon and Card Party will be held Thursday, April 26, 2018 in the parish hall. The tickets are $15 per person and will be sold in blocks of four. Tickets will be sold by mail starting March 22. First preference for tickets will be St. Bernard parishioners (limit of two tables per parishioner). Please enclose a SELF-ADDRESSED, STAMPED ENVELOPE along with your check for $60 ($120 for two tables). Checks should be made out to: St. Bernard Women s Club. Please state which game you will be playing (Bridge, Canasta, Mah Jongg or Samba). The Annual Youth Fund Raiser has been postponed until May. Adult Faith Formation Get Ready for the Gospel Scheduled each Thursday, 9:30a.m. to 11:00a.m. in classroom 205. Time may change if there is a funeral. Weekly attendance is not required. This is a drop in class for anyone interested in gaining an understanding of the following Sunday s readings for Mass. Facilitator is Kay Smith. Adult Growing in Faith - The program titled "Catholicism: The Pivotal Players" authored by Bishop Barron. You can attend all or as few as your schedule permits. If you have an opportunity, stop by the library and read two chapters on "Blessed John Newman, The Convert" and prepare the review questions. 6 PURPLE / WHITE FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT In Gethsemane, Jesus begged disciples to Watch one hour with Him. We are in the midst of another Lent; a good time for us to WATCH ONE HOUR WITH JESUS. Before LENT ends, please do yourself a favor and watch one hour with Jesus, as he yearns for you to do. Join the more that 300 St. Bernard parishioners who join Jesus in the adoration chapel each year, many of them as regulars or substitutes each week or monthly. A few people have done the same hours for almost 20 years. Others started in the last few weeks or months either as regulars with their own hour or as regular substitutes who replace a regular. Substitutes are vital to the process; so are more than a dozen people who coordinate the program so an adorer is with the Lord all day, every day ALL YEAR. An additional key is that hundreds of people treasure their joyful, peaceful, stress-free, prayerful time with the Lord each week. We believe Jesus is important enough that we set aside one special hour each week just to be with him. This Lent and Easter season is a good time to start. Adoration is open to everyone who wants their own quiet, spiritual time with the Lord. Develop a vital and personal relationship with the living, true God. Join us; Spend an Hour with Jesus. Call ****************** THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS THE JEWISH PASSOVER: THE SEDER MEAL At RCIA we continually discover how our Catholic faith has sprung from Jewish roots. We will now experience how the very center-piece of our faith stems from the last Passover meal Christ celebrated with The Twelve. At this week s class, we will be the family gathered to share in this ancient ritual in what is known as The Seder. The Seder is a reminder of God s rescue of the Jewish people from the bonds of slavery in Egypt and the exodus to the Promised Land. Jesus Christ used this Passover meal to present us with the gift of the Eucharist. He showed us how the gift of the Eucharist is food for the journey. We are blessed to have the Knights of Columbus sponsor the Seder again, and give special thanks to Russ Anzalone and the Knights for their work in preparing this special celebration for us. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one s needs, but eating solid food between meals is not permitted. The special Paschal feast and abstinence are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday.
