3 WHITE / RED APRIL 8, 2018 SO THAT YOU MAY BELIEVE It is not often that the author of one of the books of the Bible comes right out and tells us directly why he is writing what he is writing. In this Sunday s Gospel reading, taken from the conclusion of John s Gospel, the author tells us that he has chosen to record these events so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name (20:31). The letter of John echoes this idea by saying that [e]veryone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God (5:1) - what we might refer to as being born again. Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles for this Second Sunday of Easter shows us exactly what it looks like when believers are born again through faith. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. ***************************** EARTH DAY/ARBOR DAY LANDSCAPING WEEKEND Now that Spring has sprung the Building and Grounds Committee has several plans to kickoff a Landscaping Weekend. Next weekend April 14-15, 2018 we will have a volunteer sign up in the Church Narthex and in the Parish Hall for coffee & donuts. The weekend of April is Earth Day Weekend and we are planning a landscaping beautification project. Friday, April 27th is Arbor Day and we are partnering up with the Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary Club to plant new trees where diseased trees have been removed. The Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary has pledged to purchase trees for this event in conjunction with Rotary International. Some parishioners have already said yes to this landscaping initiative but we need more help. Please consider being a part of making our St. Bernard campus a place of beauty and comfort. 4 WHITE / RED St. Bernard Men's Club The next meeting of our Men's Club at St. Bernard will be held Saturday, April 14 th. Breakfast will be served at 7:30a.m. with our guest speaker, Chief of Police James Graves, presenting at 8:00a.m. In addition, we will have a number of the candidates for the POA Board of Directors attending. Each will be given a few minutes to speak as to their qualifications. Several will be available before and/or after the meeting to answer further questions. The election runs from April 9 to May 15, so this is very timely. Four terms are available for the nine candidates. Members' wives may also attend this important meeting for the low cost of $3 for breakfast. Please join us for this informative and important meeting. **************************** St. Bernard Women's Club Thinking about de-cluttering or re-organizing certain spaces? Maybe downsizing or organizing documents and photos? Come to our meeting this Friday, April 13 th, at 9:30am and meet Lynn Reding, a professional organizer! She will give us tips to simplify our home and life. This presentation was rescheduled from our January meeting, which was canceled due to the weather. We will also visit with one of the organizations that received a Women's Club donation this year. Join us for light refreshments, friendship, and an inspiring presentation. 6 WHITE / RED SUNDAY OF DIVINE MERCY Ladies of Charity of Arkansas Art Camp Sponsorships Needed Ladies of Charity of Arkansas is hosting their 7th annual daytime art camp for children in foster care from ages 4-12 on Saturday, April 28th at St. Joseph Center, the former orphanage, in North Little Rock. The theme this year is "All God s Creatures which will emphasize that every child is a masterpiece. The half-day camp will feature classes in visual arts to include painting/drawing/crafts. The children will be provided lunch, t-shirts, and take-home goodie bags. A magic show will also be a part of this special day spent in a loving, creative, Christian environment. Please visit us online at ************************************************************ ST. JOHN S BIBLE The Heritage Edition of The Saint John's Bible is spending 2018 in Arkansas. From March 15 through May 31, Mercy Northwest Arkansas will host this unique piece of sacred art, offering viewings for the public. Saint John's Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minnesota, commissioned Donald Jackson to produce the hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible in It's the first monumental, illuminated Bible commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in the modern era. It was created in Wales under the artistic direction of Jackson, one of the world s foremost calligraphers and the senior scribe to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth s Crown Office at the House of Lords. The Bible was completed in 2011, and its permanent home is the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library at Saint John s Abbey and University. The Saint John s Bible incorporates many of the characteristics of its medieval predecessors: It was written on vellum, using quills, natural handmade inks, hand ground pigments and gild such as gold leaf, silver leaf and platinum. From Mar. 20 May 30 the Bible will be on display in the Mercy Hospital Lobby daily, Monday through Friday, from 6:45a.m. to 4:00p.m. We will have a page turning and Scripture reflection every Wednesday at 11:45a.m. in the lobby. All are welcome to attend. Church groups are invited to view the Bible as a group but we ask that the leader would Sr. Anita (Anita.DeSalvo@Mercy.Net) in order that we can set a date and time to accommodate your group with a page turning and reflection on the Word.

7 WHITE / RED APRIL 8, 2018 In Gethsemane, Jesus begged disciples to Watch one hour with Him. As Lent ends, please do yourself a favor and watch one hour with Jesus, as he yearns for you to do. Join the more that 300 St. Bernard parishioners who join Jesus in the Adoration chapel each year, many of them as regulars or substitutes each week or monthly. A few people have done the same hours for almost 20 years. Others started in the last few weeks or months either as regulars with their own hour or as regular substitutes who replace a regular. Substitutes are vital to the process. So are more than a dozen people who coordinate the program so an adorer is with the Lord all day, every day ALL YEAR. An additional key is that hundreds of people find that they treasure their joyful, peaceful, stress-free, prayerful time with the Lord each week. We believe Jesus is important enough that we set aside one special hour each week just to be with him. This Easter season is a good time to start. Adoration is open to everyone who wants their own quiet, spiritual time with the Lord. Develop a vital and personal relationship with the living, true God. Join us; spend an hour with Jesus. We also acknowledge and continue praying for our other RCIA family members who are continuing their journey toward that goal. This week our lesson will be on Discernment and Your Spiritual Gifts. These three T s plus an E will help us on that journey: Time- dedicated to serving in a capacity that contributes to the whole Church. Talent- to use what God has given us to enrich the community from flipping sausages in the kitchen to being an altar server or whatever you can do with your God given gift. Treasure- to give what you can monetarily for the Church to continue Evangelizing- inviting others to come and see what you have found and to discover a spiritual peace they may never have experienced.
