3 WHITE / GREEN JANUARY 13, 2019 Dear Parishioners, I would like to ask that, in this month of January, you continue to remember the Indian Mission Society in your thoughts and prayers. This year s annual collection will be taken up on Saturday, January 19th and Sunday, January 20th. We are building another prayer center in the State of Orissa as well as educating the Adiwasi (IMS hires them for domestic workers) hostels, schools, providing mid-day meals and helping physically challenged children. We also assist in educating seminarians. Please know that your kind donations are used to help as many people as possible. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Your help is greatly appreciated. Tickets will also be available in Parish Hall after Sunday Mass and in the office during regular office hours. The price is $7 per person. The Chili Supper will be held on Saturday, January 26th in the Parish Hall. There will be a social time from 6:00 to 6:30p.m. with the meal being served at that time. The menu includes; chili, a variety of toppings, cornbread, dessert, coffee or ice tea. Beer and wine will be available for donation. The profits from this event will be used to support youth programs. 5 WHITE / GREEN JANUARY 13, 2019 THANK YOU Thank you all my friends from St. Bernard s for keeping in touch with phone calls and visits! You have no idea how it makes my move to Wisconsin more bearable. Of course, it s better to be where my family can keep their eyes on me, but I miss all of you. I am recovered to some extent, but not enough to be on my own and that may never be. Snow on the trees is beautiful, but not being able to drive is not. My advice is to not fall on your head. Please, somebody keep up helping my kids from Bella Vista Preschool, it makes them do so much better in big school and better citizens. And it will give you a heads up with your own great grandkids it did me. Sincerely, June Rochon ************* COMPASSION GROUP I would like to thank all the church members who have helped the Compassion Group this past year: friendly visitors as well as those providing transportation, meals and other tasks as needed. I especially want to thank the people who helped deliver the 91 fruit bags, those who donated items and the ladies who made the Prayer Shawls. We delivered 44 this year. You all are so much appreciated by our elderly, sick and lonely members. They look forward to our visits and are so thankful that they are remembered. Darlene Kuta, Chairperson Sacred Relics of The Saints: Treasures of The Church Parishes in Van Buren, Fort Smith, Russellville, Conway, Jonesboro and Mena will present the teaching and exposition of sacred relics in January. Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross will display a very special Vatican Collection of more than 150 relics, some as old as 2,000 years. Among the treasures will be relics of St. Maria Goretti, St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower"), St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Faustina Kowalska. In addition, there will also be present a portion of the veil of Our Lady, as well as one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world. Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each relic. In the Church s history, many miracles and healings have been worked in the presence of relics, and many have been healed through this ministry. Please do not miss this opportunity. You are encouraged to bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill friends/family members, which you will be able to touch to the reliquaries as a means of intercession. 7 WHITE / GREEN JANUARY 13, 2019 Resolve to participate: Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Yes! Adoration at St. Bernard has been 24/7 since April 1, All are welcome!! More than 350 of us spend a regular hour or occasional substitute hour with the Lord in the Adoration Chapel. Make a resolution to join them with an hour that fits your schedule. I will participate in Perpetual Adoration! That is a resolution we can all fulfill. Volunteer to do Perpetual Adoration just once in the coming new year. Or volunteer to substitute for a regular adorer just once. Or take a big step and volunteer to take an open hour. Many of us started Adoration by agreeing to take an hour a week just for a few times. The hour is now a regular and fulfilling part of their lives, an hour of prayerful rest spent in silence and relaxation with the Lord in the St. Bernard Adoration Chapel. For more information, please call the office at ******************* RCIA ARE YOU HUNGRY? All of the teachings that Jesus Christ left for his Church to carry forward are for one purpose, our salvation and the salvation of all of mankind. We know that Christs teachings are both, DO AS I DO and DO AS I SAY. This week at RCIA we will look into one of Christs most demanding, DO AS I SAY, teachings. This teaching is of such importance that St. John dedicated chapter six of his Gospel to it. As we study, we will discover that on the previous day five thousand had come to hear him and on that occasion, he fed all of them from a few loaves and fishes and they all left amazed. The following day they came again to listen, but this time upon hearing his words, they walked away rejecting and abandoning Him. All but twelve. Why did the twelve stay? What would you have done? Although Christ s words make it clear how essential accepting this teaching is to our salvation and to that of all mankind, most reject it and walk away even today. What is so offensive that causes this to happen? Why do those who know and have taken part in it walk away? Do they not know what they do? Can we truly live in Christ without this teaching?
