The Voyager Immaculate Lady Newsletter Summer Edition Grand Knight Message Brothers All, It is with great pleasure that I offer you greetings and hope you are all having a nice summer. Your Council Officers have already met twice before the First Business Meeting on June 11, to shape our Fraternal Year. If you were at the first meeting you got a taste of what is to come and the plans that have been laid out. Our first meeting was nicely attended for the summer months and for being scheduled so last minute. I thank all that came out. Our second Wednesday meetings are being scheduled as social events this year. The Officers have decided to also invite the Parish to them for recruiting, recognition of the Knights at the parish and for the new program from Supreme, Faith in Action, which replaces Surge. We came up with some new fundraisers that are not hard to do and do not compete against the Parish, School or other Fellowship Organizations at SHG. This can be a comeback year for the Knights if YOU volunteer to HELP. The Council is only asking 24 Hours out of a whole year of your time. When we joined the Knights we pledged to help one another (brotherhood) and the community. Put Faith in Action in your own life. Your help in any event is important whether you help plan it, coach the team if needed, work the event, help clean up afterwards, and/or pray for guidance and a good outcome. 24 Hours of your time out of a Year will make a positive difference. Please read the proposed Budget for Immaculate Lady Council #5208 for this Fraternal year. The Council will discuss it and answer your questions at our August 1 st Business Meeting (7:30 pm in the Mother Seton Room). At the September 5 th Business Meeting, we ll vote on the budget (7:30 pm in the West Room). Vivat Jesus! Ron Spohn Grand Knight, Immaculate Lady Council #5208 Talk or text SuznRon@aol.com Home

Admission Degree at Immaculate Lady Council with a Degree Team By Ron Spohn Wednesday, July 25 Immaculate Lady Council Members were invited to experience the Admission Degree with St Barts Degree Team here at Sacred Heart. Council members that came experienced the degree and companionship of our brothers and future brothers. It was very rainy outside but the mood inside the Mother Seton room was uplifting. The Council Chaplin, Msgr. Lloyd Aiken, was in attendance and was applauded when he entered the room. In attendance from our council were the Grand Knight Ron Spohn, Warden Dave Clement, Outside Guard Brian Bogdanski, Treasure Sam Collins PGK, Stan Cochran PGK, Joe Trinite, SK Charles Mezu and SK Bob Trout. The Admission Degree was not about those who came, but about bring in another brother. Let us all greet and give our newest member a warm hello at the next meeting. Let me introduce you to Jason Swem. Yes there was fellowship after the Admission Degree. Stan Cochran brought in the original charter of our Council for all to enjoy and he even had a SHG Directory from the 1970s.

District Deputy Message for District 21 My Brothers all, I bring you greetings from our Worthy State Deputy Dale Trott whose motto is We are advocates of the Lord. DW David Love and I are honored to help lead District 21 for the next two years and look forward to working with all of the councils. We want to welcome all the new officers and congratulate the Grand Knights. The success of the council depends on the members and the programs you support. Remember when we joined the Knights, none of us joined to attend meetings. I joined after my deployment to Afghanistan in I saw the darker side of humanity and how poorly people can treat each other. When I came home, I decided that I wanted to do more for my community and get more involved in my church. I found what I was looking for in St. Bartholomew s Knights of Columbus. I became the recorder and entered the chairs and was Grand Knight for the fraternal year. The more I got involved in the Knights, the more I enjoyed all aspects of the order. I also joined the Fourth Degree and Color Corps. Last year, I was Faithful Navigator. Thanks to the Knights, I am a better Catholic and a better person. I have grown and continue to gain a better understanding of my faith. It is important that we continue to grow in our spirituality as Catholic gentlemen. In the Knights we have a unique opportunity to share that experience. It is important that we work together to build a strong council and get new members. I am pleased to report that in our District we have one Admission Degree per Month already scheduled. But can you do one Admissions Degree per month per council. It doesn t have to be scheduled. We have three teams in the district. We can read the degree if we have to, and we have the DVD. So you don t have to wait, if you have candidates get them in soonest. Don t take July and August off, many of you have events coming up, Audits are due in August and the end of the quarter will be here soon. We d like to see members of other councils attend each other s meetings, gives you an idea of what others are doing and builds fraternity throughout. Please remember your promise from the first degree to carry your rosary and pray it often, a let all you meet know you are a Catholic Gentleman and member of the Knights of Columbus. Vivat Jesus Charlie Kohler District Deputy, District 21

4 th Degree Exemplification in Laurel Maryland Saturday June 16, 2018 By Ron Spohn With all the rain we have been having, this was the first sunny warm weekend that we had so that you could have been outdoors. But Immaculate Lady Council had candidates to be taken to the Exemplification in Laurel Maryland. It was a nice ceremony with (secret) and the (secret) was something to see. All of our Candidates made it on time and received the 4 th Degree (Patriotic Degree). S/K Sam Collins and S/K Ron Spohn both took the time off to accompany 3 rd degree Knights Charles Mezu, Tom Harwell along with Father Canisius to their Exemplification. Immaculate Lady Council Knights please welcome and recognize our New Sir Knights. Above is S/K Sam Collins with Sacred Hearts New S/K Father Canisius. 7 Columbian Club Meeting June 20, 2018 By Ron Spohn The Columbian Club held their Bi-yearly meeting after the regular 2 nd Business Meeting of the month. The Columbian Club Meeting was cheered on by those in attendance. It lasted from 8pm to about 10:30pm and was VERY NOISY. Members talking over other members, it was hard to tell if anything was settled when we gathered into our discussion groups. Below are some of the attendees that showed up and voiced their opinions. It was GOOD to see so many Council Shirts. Keep it up! 8 Pro Life Report A GOOD CATHOLIC MUST BE PRO LIFE By ROBERT WAGNER Please Lord God, help us to respect life from womb to tomb though out our entire world, especially for those in most need of your mercy and protection. A brief update on the Dave Daleiden trial in Los Angeles. The Daleiden defense team had requested the removal of Judge Orrick because of his relationship with Planned Parenthood who he has always supported and who were suing Dave Daleiden. The response from the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit was a refusal to remove Judge Orrick from the trial. They stated that they believed that the case did not warrant their intervention. The Daleiden law team found this baffling based on the information they had provided about Judge Orrick's involvement with Planned Parenthood and the abortion agenda. This is just more evidence how Planned Parenthood and the abortion agenda has infiltrated our Justice system. All I can say is to pray, pray, pray. I am sure you are all aware of the May 25th vote in Ireland when their Constitutional 8th amendment, which protected life in the womb, was repealed. This was a travesty; a great loss for Christianity when one of our formerly greatest countries s for resisting abortion has fallen. Pro Life organizations are vowing to fight abortion forever across the Irish nation. Hillary Clinton went to Ireland to give speeches thanking Ireland for voting to legalize abortion. She thinks abortion is a fundamental human right which is under attack. She said that we are living in an era when fundamental rights, virtue and even facts and reason are under assault as never before. She spoke for 30 minutes to about 400 people. This is the mindset we are fighting. Keep praying. As I have said before there are a lot of good Pro Life actions being taken but we are being fought every step of the way. We can always use help praying at the abortion facility in Owings Mills every Saturday morning at 7:15 AM. It is at 100 Painters Mill Road, at the second traffic light from Reisterstown Rd. Immaculate Lady Council Shirt Council shirts are still available and reasonably priced. If you would like to buy a new Council shirt, please contact Ron Spohn (call or text ; suznron@aol.com). Each shirt is personalized with your name (not mine). The shirts are still selling very well. Trust me, you feel great when you walk in a room and Everyone Knows Your Name.

Casserole Night June By Ron Spohn The Call was sent out late for volunteers for Tuesday night Casserole making for Our Daily Bread. By 6:30pm it was looking kind of bleak, where are the volunteers. By 6:35pm, Boom, the Knights showed up in force. The response was VERY GOOD and it made the work that much easier. Does that mean that it always happens that way? NO, but tonight we did have a good turnout. The next step was to prep and cook the food. The prepping part was almost complete when it was noticed that we could not turn on the oven or the stove to cook. Chris Kilgalen, our go to local contractor, soon figured out what was the problem and we were on track with finishing our casseroles. We soon had everyone working again like Santa s Elves. The rest of the KNIGHT went smoothly with 50 Casseroles made and wrapped for Our Daily Bread. Fellowship followed with lite food, drink and conservation. If you have not stopped by to help with the casseroles yet please do, it will be and ADVENTURE because you never know Who or What is going to happen. Just ask Tuesday night June 26 volunteers. Right Guys? Above Left to Right: Bill Keil (has his name badge on and was checking to make sure we got all the sauce out of the can), Dave Clement ( in his Immaculate Lady Council shirt waiting for Bill to check the next can of sauce) and DGK Chris Kilgalen (looking on, very professional ) Above Left to Right: Victor Lengrand, Brian Bogdanski, Charles Mezu, Mathew Nellies ( he has helped us a number of times, Sam give him a Form 100), Bill Nellies and Joe Sowinski ( Joe just wanted to look cool, he really was working). Thank you for taking your Tuesday night off and joining us for this worthwhile endeavor.

Catechism Corner By Robert Wagner Lord God, we humbly ask you to shower us with your grace to help us live our lives according to your will, so we can spend eternity with You. I think we do not take eternal life seriously. We are all so wrapped up in our worldly activities - financial, political, family, health, etc... that we don't think about God until we pray, or perhaps until we go to Church on Sunday. Yet, our soul will live forever and where we spend our eternal life depends on how we live this life. This is a very serious matter, not to be laughed at, shrugged off or ignored. We will all die and be judged, this is the Particular Judgement, and our soul will go to Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. At the end of the world there will be a Final Judgement where we will be reunited with our bodies and again return to Heaven or Hell where we will be through eternity, which means forever and ever and ever. Here are a few paragraphs from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, that hopefully you all have, regarding eternal life Death puts an end to human life as the time open to either accepting or rejecting the divine grace manifested in Christ. The New Testament speaks of judgment primarily in its aspect of the final encounter with Christ in his second coming, but also repeatedly affirms that each will be rewarded immediately after death in accordance with his works and faith. The parable of the poor man Lazarus and the words of Christ on the cross to the good thief, as well as other New Testament texts speak of a final destiny of the soul--a destiny which can be different for some and for others Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven-through a purification or immediately,-- or immediate and everlasting damnation. At the evening of life, we shall be judged on our love. 1023Those who die in God's grace and friendship and are perfectly purified live for ever with Christ. They are like God for ever, for they "see him as he is," face to face: By virtue of our apostolic authority, we define the following: According to the general disposition of God, the souls of all the saints... and other faithful who died after receiving Christ's holy Baptism (provided they were not in need of purification when they died,... or, if they then did need or will need some purification, when they have been purified after death,...) already before they take up their bodies again and before the general judgment - and this since the Ascension of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into heaven - have been, are and will be in heaven, in the heavenly Kingdom and celestial paradise with Christ, joined to the company of the holy angels. Since the Passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ, these souls have seen and do see the divine essence with an intuitive vision, and even face to face, without the mediation of any creature. 678 Following in the steps of the prophets and John the Baptist, Jesus announced the judgment of the Last Day in His preaching. Then will the conduct of each one and the secrets of hearts be brought to light. Then will the culpable unbelief that counted the offer of God's grace as nothing be condemned. Our attitude to our neighbor will disclose acceptance or refusal of grace and divine love. On the Last Day Jesus will say: "Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me."

679 Christ is Lord of eternal life. Full right to pass definitive judgment on the works and hearts of men belongs to Him as Redeemer of the world. He "acquired" this right by his cross. The Father has given "all judgment to the Son. Yet the Son did not come to judge, but to save and to give the life He has in Himself. By rejecting grace in this life, one already judges oneself, receives according to one's works, and can even condemn oneself for all eternity by rejecting the Spirit of love. Casserole Night July By Ron Spohn You never know who is going to show up on Casserole night, and that in itself always keeps you coming back. This month we had some new personnel show up, some members we have not seen in a while and the good old stand byes. Everyone s help was needed to complete the job and the Council extends a THANK YOU for coming to help. Above, with the casseroles made the fellowship started. L to R: Brian Bogdanski, Mathew Nellies, Sam Collins, Bill Nellies, Stan Cochran, a BIG Welcome to Brennan Sedney and our faithful leader Chris Kilgalen. Above L to R: Brian, Mathew, Bill, Stan, Brennan, Chris and Sam. We had extras tonight but they had to leave early. Thank you John Kmiecik and Charles Mezu for your support and help with the Casseroles. Hope to see you both next time. Left: Bob Trout got stuck again with the dishes. The last time I saw Bob at Casserole Night he got stuck washing the dishes. Bob stop going back in the corner. All jokes aside, this is probably one of the most important jobs that needs to be done. THANK YOU BOB.

Immaculate Lady Installation of Officers July By Ron Spohn On Wednesday, July 18 at 7pm we had the Installation of Officers. All members of the Council and their wives were invited. A Mass in the Little Church started at 7pm, Installation of the Officers followed in the Little Church. What a difference it made having the installation in the Church rather than in the West room! A reception was held in the Mother Seton Room, which was decorated to look more like a banquet room, with live flower arrangements, a head table, round banquet tables, designated tables for the visiting Grand Knights and Color Corps. Refreshments included finger food, deserts and drinks. We had in attendance at the Installation State Dignitaries and Grand Knights from other Councils to celebrate in this special occasion. With Dignitaries in attendance from State and other Councils, our Council adhered to the Knights of Columbus dress code and protocols as specified by the Maryland State Council. Msgr. SK Lloyd Aiken and Father SK Canisius Tah celebrated the Mass. Nicholas Connelly was the Lecturer for the Mass. The State Officials carrying out the ceremony were District Deputy Charlies Kohler with District Warden David Love. Visiting Grand Knights from District 21 were Grand Knight Bill Schwenke from Manchester and Grand Knight Richard French from Taneytown. Assembly #379 Color Corps was present, with the Color Corps Commander himself in attendance, CCC Christopher Mc Graft commanding SK Richard French, SK Sam Collins, SK Victor Lengrand in silk and feathers. Plenty of pictures were taken by our own Joe Braswell at the church ceremony and at the Banquet room (Mother Seton). Joe is selecting the photos now and they ll appear with individual photos of the Officers on the SHG Knights web page and the Voyager. It looked even better with the floral arrangements in place later.
