A Message from the Chancellor by Ron Spohn Brother Knights: Lent is a special time of the year for our Church and every Christian Church. It is a time for all us to reflect on the sacrifices Christ made for our salvation. It is a time of fasting, prayer and sacrifice on our part. Usually everyone gives something up like chocolate, meat or some sort of food. My suggestion this year would be instead, let us think of renewing our commitment to the Church and our Order. Maybe give more time, to pray the Rosary, and to volunteer our time this year to help our Church and the Knights activities. Make Lent the beginning of the year to commit to the Lord, Church, Order and our fellow man. Our Order has been busy this month even though we are supposed to be in the jaws of winter. If you missed it, Candidates joined our Council, we held the Father/Daughter Dance, supported the ongoing Friday Lenten Meals, and, of course, prepared casseroles for Our Daily Bread. Without our Council s support none of these activities would have been accomplished and been successful. We ask during this Lenten season that you recommit yourself to help our Council in more upcoming events this year, even if it is just one. Lent is usually thought of as the time of year to give up something we really like, let s change it up this year and give more of ourselves to glorify the Lord. HAPPY SAINT PATRICK S DAY to all! Ron Spohn Sacrament of Reconciliation in the Little Church during Lent Saturdays: 3 pm -3:45 pm Wednesday (March 7,14): 7:00 pm Archdiocesan Day of Reconciliation on Monday, March 19: 9:30 11:30 am and 2:00 4:00 pm Tuesday, March 27 and Wednesday, March 28: After the 9:00 am Mass and 7:00 pm Parish Reconciliation Service: Wednesday, March 21 at 7:00 pm (MC)
Immaculate Lady Council Happenings By Ron Spohn Are you going to be caught off- guard by the Start of Daylight Saving Time? When is it? you may ask. Sunday, March 11. Isn t it funny how it always falls on a Sunday so we are late for our favorite Mass. This Month I updated our Sacred Heart Knights Web Page with Our Council Voyager, Message from the Chancellor and updated the Calendar with activities and meetings. You can check it out by clicking here - ( Our Council Members did a lot this month so let s get started. Below: Council members supporting Charles Mezu at his Formation Degree, from left to right are Ron Spohn, [Charles Mezu], John Kmiecik and Sam Collins. On Tuesday, Febuary 20, Immaculate Lady Council presented a candidate for the Formation Degree (2 rd Degree), which was held at St.Johns in Westminster. We congratulate Charles Mezu on achieving his 2 nd Degree! Feburary 16, We joined the Patasco Council Knights Out Inn for a Lenten Supper and it was GREAT as usual. I wanted you to meet the Crew that makes the meal and makes it appear on your table. From left to right: Ron Spohn (visitor), JoAnn Karpers, Warren Norris, Mike Doetzer, Sam Collins (visitor), Paul Buckley, and centered is JoAnn Fuller. Very friendly and helpful crew, when you ar tired of pizza, give them try. See upcomming events for address and times.
On Friday, February 23, Sacred Heat Parish had their 2 nd Lenten Meal before the Stations of the Cross for adults in the Little Church. The crowd was very happy with the service and the food. The patrons were served this knight by the Catholic Women s Association and the KofC Immaculate Lady Council #5208. The Knights enjoyed the meal as well as working with the CWA ladies. The Catholic Women s Association was well represented and did a GREAT job for the estimated 150 people who came to dine. Served was a salad, pumpkin soup and pizza. The Women, from left to right: Anna, Rita, Marie, Magalie, and Catherine, are flanked by supporters Jayden and Bill K. Congratulations on a job well done! The Knights team that helped with setting-up the tables, getting the drinks ready and helping serve and clean up after the Lenten Meal was from left to right: Michele & GK Quentin Sedney, Tom Harwell, Suzanne Spohn, Bill Nellies, Lucille Spohn (92), Bill Keil (pulling double duty) and Ron Spohn. We all enjoyed serving and working with the Catholic Women s Association. Volunteering for this event is on a first come first serve basis. Ask for open dates.
Advertisement: A versatile alternate to Council shirts is the Council name badge. Everyone received a badge gratis upon becoming a Knight. Name badges are reasonably priced and still available. They also fit nicely in most shirt pockets. If you need to replace yours, or perhaps want to purchase one for each of your jackets, please contact PGK Sam Collins ( SamuelCollins12341@comcast.net ; or phone or text ). If you need a replacement name badge, this is what it looks like, in case you don t remember Febuary 27 Casserole Night Thank you to all the Knights that came out and helped with the Casseroles for Our Daily Bread. From Left to Right: Charles Etoh (a new Council member) Tom Schwartzweller (head chef at the Owings Mills Wegman s), Bill Nellies (Denise s husband), Chuck Pearson, Brian Bogdanski and Tom O Donnell (you remember him the car dealer guy ). Cristina and Matthew Nellies (missing from the photo) came to watch Dad make casseroles. Wow, the whole crew is really into getting these Casseroles completed. Everyone is working like clock work. Let s give credit to these guys. Left to Right: Bill Nellies, Chuck Pearson, Bill Keil, Charles Etoh, Tom Schwartzweller,Tom O Donnell,Brian Bogdanski, Joe Sowinski and the usual characters who were camera shy tonight - Chris Kilgalen and Ron Spohn, with special appearances by Outside Guard Dave Clement and GK Quentin Sedney. It was nice to see so many Knights show up, some brand new, some visiting, and those coming month after month. It was a great mix!
Father - Daughter Dance March 24, 2018 Yes, this was Immaculate Lady Council s BIGGEST EVENT of the year. Approximately two hundred and sixty people attended. There was lots of singing, dancing, eating and drinking (sodas) and a great time was had by all. Very successful event! Thanks to Rick Siebert for running this event this year, and for the past 15 years or more. Immaculate Lady Council members arrived at 1:00 pm to set everything up and have the SHG Gym look more like a Ball Room for the expected date of Fathers and Daughters. The Professional Photographer also arrived early to assemble his back drop, lighting and setup his poses for taking pictures of the attendees Once the Fathers & Daughters arrived it was time to sing and dance to the DJ. No time for sitting, as we all know girls like to dance and have fun. It didn t take long after coming thru the door for the girls to want pictures of this special occasion with dad. After all, he was all dressed up just for them.
The beverage table was kept well stocked, though it was quite a job to keep the cups filled. The only Knights of Columbus Logo to be seen. The food table was a hit, but the line was unpredictable. Here everyone was dancing. The Young Ladies enjoying a dance contest. The Girls doing a Conga Train - Great Fun! Do you remember the song YMCA? Well this group did and they got into it.
The dessert tables were beautifully set up What s this, two tables of sugar for the girls? Gotta keep that energy level up!! Once dessert was brought out for the girls it was 2 and 3 rows deep. Music, what music? It was a tough call between the DJ and the dessert. It didn t take long for two tables of dessert to turn into one with not much left. At last - a slow dance with Daddy, the man closest to their heart.
