Below is a list of agencies who need our help with descriptions of volunteer activities. Chatham Oaks Volunteers will provide some music and mingle with residents and make general conversation. Bingo and various card games may be played with residents. Crisis Center Indoor work and painting Domestic Violence Shelter Yard work and Clean Kitchen Elder Services Many individual yards need clean-up Harvest Preserve Foundation Weed, trim, and possibly mulch. If rain, clean inside the pond house. 2 Job Opportunity with Our Redeemer Preschool A preschool assistant is needed for the extended day program for the Our Redeemer Preschool for the hours of 7:30-8:24 am and 12:45-5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Preschool session runs from Labor Day to Memorial Day. Please contact Kaja Mueller ( ) for more information. BOOKKEEPER NEEDED Larry Freeman has announced his intention to resign as Our Redeemer s bookkeeper. If you have an interest in this hour per week position, please talk with or apply to Pastor Hartwig by June 8. We walk because we care about helping the needy wherever they may be. At the Des Moines LWML National Convention on June 26th we walk along the Des Moines river to help support mission grants. You can help us by providing pledges for our walkers. Farewell & Godspeed for Seth June 20 at 6:30 pm Fellowship Hall Do you have musical talents? Please consider sharing them with Our Redeemer this summer. Twyla Freeman (phone or taf13146@ourredeemer.org) would love to hear from you. As Seth Illich prepares to leave Our Redeemer for the next phase of his career, a farewell meal will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the 5:30 pm service where he will be recognized and a servant event commissioning will take place. The meat will be provided. Bring a dish to share. Seth will accompany the youth to their Chicago servant event, but depart from there to his new position in Ohio at the end of Our Redeemer s servant event. 2

3 Planning for the Future The Prince of Peace Human Care Committee invites you to share Estate planning and financial advice for various life stages with speakers Dennis Mitchell, a Trust officer and Attorney and Kari Kibby a Thrivent Representative. Saturday June 13 th 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Fellowship Hall A luncheon will also be served during this event. For information or to attend, please contact the office or church secretary. Each year Outreach sponsors a float in the Coralville 4 th of July parade. Volunteer parade walkers hand out bottles of water labelled with a Christian message. Many of the bottles donated by congregational members are labelled during VBS (June 15-19) so start bringing cases of water to the Fellowship Hall or- MarciaMcgoldrick@msn.com Dennis and Kari will answer any questions you may have to assist you in preparing for your future goals. Youth Fundraiser for Our Redeemer Lutheran Church Start licking your lips, dig out your bibs, clean out the canning jars, and get the pie crusts ready! These hand-picked juicy peaches are back by popular demand. Tell your friends; tell your neighbors! One box weighs pounds, contains peaches and costs $35. The Our Redeemer Lutheran Church Youth Group has been working with the growers now known as Palisade Produce for the past 16 years with this fundraiser. All proceeds are divided among servant events, confirmation retreats, National Youth Gatherings, and general mission funds. When the peaches are ready for pick-up those who order will be notified of the pick-up date. Order Forms will be located in the church office. Please make checks payable to LYF. No phone orders will be taken. ATT: ALL Youth & parents (current 4 th graders through the current graduating class) You are expected to help out in some fashion with this fundraiser. Questions? 4 PARISH NURSE POSITION AVAILABLE Please contact Anita Nicholson, health ministry chair, at if interested. Accountable to: Senior Pastor, Health Ministry Committee Supervised by: Senior Pastor; Chair, Health Ministry Committee General job description: The Parish Nurse coordinates the health maintenance needs of congregational members. With the assistance of the Health Ministry Committee, he/she advises the committee about strategies to promote wellness of the members. Typical duties: 1. Meets with Pastor to identify priorities for member needs. 2. Makes home health and hospital visits to members in person and/or by phone. Provides spiritual support and counseling to members on health issues such as bereavement, acute and chronic illnesses. 3. Coordinates appropriate health resources and referrals. 4. Maintains appropriate records. This is a paid position - 4 hours per week. OUR REDEEMER PRESCHOOL Enrollment is OPEN There are discounts for being a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, if you have multiple children in our preschool, or if you refer a new family who enrolls. Nurses from the Health Ministry Committee welcome phone calls from church members who have health related questions or concerns. We want to help advise members on health resources in the community until the parish nurse position is filled. Also, the Mission Committee would like to ask the congregation to help support these volunteers financially. Donations for the Mission Trip fund can be given to any Mission Committee member, or placed in the offering plate. The check should designate Alaska Mission Trip on the memo line. The mission trip members will be flying to remote villages to help the local Lutheran church with Vacation Bible School and other needs. The volunteers will be carrying on this work without many of the conveniences that we take for granted FALL MISSION AUCTION NOVEMBER 22 nd Just a reminder that the Mission Auction is fast approaching. Please consider items you can donate for this fundraiser. The funds raised will help defray the cost of mission trips for the participants. We are having S MORE fun at VBS and discovering how Jesus is at work through us! This year our children age 3 years (potty trained) through 8 th grade are invited to VBS. They will get to enjoy a fantastic week here at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church & Preschool this summer. The transformation from church home to VBS theme is amazing! Our mornings begin with a spectacular opening, which is followed by great Bible lessons, fun crafts, games, snacks, and recreation. Student Registration forms will be online and in the church office in April! VOLUNTEERS As an all volunteer effort, many volunteers are needed to help us reach approximately 200 children! We have a Volunteer Registration Form in the church office. You can contact Kaja Mueller, # or dce@ourredeemer.org. VBS Training Dates will be for all volunteers on Monday, June 8 th (6:30 pm 7:30 pm) and June 14 th (Noon 1:00pm); you are required to come to one of them. Kaja Mueller will be leading this hour of training. We will play a few games that you are encouraged to play with your classes and then we will get into the details of the week. On June 14 th, we will set up for the week of VBS. You don't need to even be a leader in any way to help out. Just help move tables and set up decorations! The more hands the merrier. As always, on the last day of VBS we will have a pizza party for all. SPONSORSHIP SNACK Donation list is now available in the church office! Please consider sponsoring a child for Vacation Bible School (VBS). Each $10 in sponsorship will help one child receive the music CD, crafts, snack, and a free Bible if they do not have one at home. We focus each year on regularly reading God s Word from the Bible. At least 65% of the children who attend our VBS are non-members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church & Preschool, and often many may not have a Bible at home. Our VBS outreach event helps us to reach many children from our congregation and the community (approximately 200 children total). On June 10 th at 6 pm, we will host a BBQ with hotdogs and burgers. Please, plan to bring a dish to share. Following dinner, we will enjoy a variety of lawn games such as; bocce ball, bean bag toss, Frisbee, etc.... Sign up using the following link summer2 Plan to join us on Wednesday, June 17 th as we venture out to AirFX. AirFX is 40,000 square feet of family fun, including wall-to-wall trampolines, Kid s Zone for small children, dodge ball court, trampoline basketball, 18- and 24-foot tumble tracks, jumping pits, slackline/ tightrope. The cost for this event is $13 per person jumping. If you would like to go and not jump, there is no cost to you. We will plan to leave here at 6 pm and have time in the park from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Our insurance carrier, Church Mutual, strongly encourages us to promote the safest and most secure environment possible by screening all employees and volunteers, both new and existing, especially those who interact with children. Performing background checks will provide safeguards and peace of mind to our staff, volunteers, parents, youth and children.
