2 development and well-being. The father who was obedient to the commands of Scripture did just that. Proverbs 22:6 says, Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. To train indicates the first teaching that a father and mother give a child. This training is created in a way to make clear to children the life they are intended for, a life of great importance. THE CHRISTIAN FATHER The Bible tells us, All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16-17). A Christian father s first and greatest responsibility is to acquaint his children with God through Scripture. One of the reasons this is so important is because what children learn about God will put them in good standing throughout their lives, no matter what they do and where they go. God uses the Christian father as an instrument for instruction and discipline, in which God commands and administers. Ephesians 6:4 is a summary of instructions to fathers. Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). A wise father seeks to make obedience desirable and attainable by love and gentleness. We know from history that the father was to be diligent in instructing children in the ways and words of the Lord for their own spiritual Read more at fathers-day/what-does-it-mean-to-be-a-christianfather.aspx#ao3syvmeum3cpfzo.99 WORK DAY Saturday, June 30 9:00 am Please plan on assisting with the outdoor workday planned for June 30. 7 Life Quotes Children, vulnerable and dependent, desperately need security, and it has ever been a duty and a joy of fatherhood to offer it. Being a father requires strength and more than a little courage to persevere, to fight discouragement, and to keep working for the family With God s grace, fathers find the patience to teach, the fortitude to provide, the compassion to comfort, and the mercy to forgive. All of this is to say that they find the strength to love their wives and children selflessly Let us express our thanks and affection to our fathers, whether we can do so in person or in prayer. President Ronald Reagan, Father s Day 1988 A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life Join the Battle! What Battle?? The centuries old battle against abortion. The Hippocratic Oath explicitly forbade aborting and assisting suicide. This Oath stated, centuries before Jesus, Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest a course. Similarly I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion. The Didache, a Christian text attributed to the Apostles likewise declares, Thou shalt not murder a child by abortion nor kill that which is begotten. Martin Luther also applied his voice to life issues. He observed how the Holy Scripture testified about the prenatal humanity of Jesus.. Moreover, when Christ, the Son of God, became incarnate, He certainly had to be already present in essence and in person in the Virgin s womb, and had to assume humanity there. (LW 37:62) Luther called abortion a sinful offense against the tiniest neighbors. How great, therefore, the wickedness of human nature is! How many girls there are who prevent conception and kill and expel tender fetuses, although procreation is the work of God! (LW 4:304) However, as sinful as we are; we are forgiven. Luther quotes I admit that I deserve death and hell Does this mean that I shall be sentenced to eternal damnation? By no means. For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction in my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, the Son of God. (Letters of Spiritual Counsel). What Battle? The battle against evil, the battle against abortion and suicide, the battle against allowing and supporting what our culture and government tells us is the right thing to do when it is in direct opposition to God s Word and His Design. Please join us, The Sanctity of Life Team, in this battle with your prayers and voice to share God s design for everyone s life. Share the wisdom of God and the Ages to combat the current voices that would reject God s plan of creation and life. Thanks to Rev. Michael W. Salemink, Executive Director of Lutherans for Life for these quotes from How Luther Nailed It on Life Issues. And Martin Luther from (LW) - Luther s Works, 55 Vols. Tom and Cory Strumpel 7
