Calling all Veterans & Active Military Personnel! Veteran s Day is the day we honor the men and women who have selflessly fought for our country and our freedom. It is also a remembrance of the veterans who gave their lives for us. On this Veterans Day, let us recognize the service and sacrifice of our brave veterans and their families. On Friday, November 9th, All Souls Catholic School will honor veterans as well as current military family members at 7:50 am during our morning courtyard gathering. If you think blessings can only come from ordained ministers consider yourself the minister of parenthood. Blessings can take many forms but the most natural (and simplest) one for ministers of the home are not formal prayers but prayers from the heart. Perhaps use the simple: May God bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. You can add other spontaneous prayers for your child if you like. Adding a gesture like the sign of the cross or placing your hand on your child s head emphasizes the sacredness of the time. Short rituals like this benefit from repetition. Blessing on a regular basis carries memories of past times and brings a moment of peace between you. You might want to bless your child at bedtime, when leaving the house, at times of sickness or change. LPI, Inc. Children s R.C.I.A. Parent Meeting: All those parents with children in the Children s R.C.I.A. with Mrs. Campbell on Wednesday evenings are asked to attend a brief informational meeting on Wednesday, October 24 in the Historic. This meeting is to provide parents with additional information about the program. Please mark your calendars, set your phone reminders, you do not want to miss this important meeting! First Reconciliation/First Holy Communion Preparation: All information and preparation materials were given to those families with children preparing to celebrate their First Reconciliation (November 12th, 2018) and First Holy Communion (May 4th/5th, 2019). As a faith family and parish community please remember these families in your prayers as they walk this journey. Parents have been returned the right to prepare their children for the sacraments at home as a family, where faith is initially shared and learned. This is a very important and sacred responsibility. For those parents preparing your children, may you cherish this special time with your children as you both grow and deepen in your love of Christ. Remember the upcoming workbook due dates as well as our First Reconciliation Spirit Day Retreat. If there is anything we can do to assist you in this journey please do not hesitate the parish office. May God bless all of you. Live the Liturgy: Persistence is really a virtue and the face of a strong character. We all have heard stories of people who have done incredible things in the presence of obstacles that appear insurmountable. These are real stories of real people who have lost limbs or faced other physical challenges. They have become amazing athletes and sometimes saints who overcame incredible difficulties in order to proclaim God's love and presence. Where there is a strong will, there is a way. What do we want Jesus to do for us? Let your faith inspire you to find the courage to love in the face of bitterness, the faith to persevere when tempted to give up, and the hope to move forward when falling into despair.
