Believe! Last month I mentioned the whole idea of Christians living their lives with a Biblical worldview.

The series is titled "Game Day" it takes some disciplines that athletes use in order to prepare themselves for game day and compares them to some spiritual disciplines that we as Christians can use

It will be a thirty week series that will help us focus on three significant questions: 1) What do I believe?, 2) What should I do?, and 3) Who am I becoming?

1 Believe! Last month I mentioned the whole idea of Christians living their lives with a Biblical worldview. Currently in our worship services we are looking at some spiritual disciplines that help us as Christians focus more on our daily lives as a Christian. The series is titled "Game Day" it takes some disciplines that athletes use in order to prepare themselves for game day and compares them to some spiritual disciplines that we as Christians can use to prepare us for game day which is every day. Beginning the first Sunday in January 2016 we will begin a new series titled "Believe". It will be a thirty week series that will help us focus on three significant questions: 1) What do I believe?, 2) What should I do?, and 3) Who am I becoming? Through personal reading, the messages in worship, and in every Sunday school class for all ages, we will explore 10 key beliefs, 10 key practices, and 10 key virtues that will help us think, act and be more like the people of God we are called to be. It is becoming more and more evident, that even as Christians, we are having a harder time knowing what we believe and putting these beliefs into action. Through this series we will be engaged in thinking about the three questions listed above and encouraged by God's Word to be the Christian and the church we are called to be. May we continue to be used by God with A Heart for Hamilton County and the World! 5 5 The Solid Rock (My Hope is Built on Nothing Less) Edward Mote 1834 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11 Edward Mote was born into poverty on January 21, 1797, in London. His parents, innkeepers, wouldn t allow a Bible in their house, but somehow Edward heard the gospel as a teenager and came to Christ. He eventually became a skilled carpenter and the owner of his own cabinet shop. One morning, he recalled, it came into my mind as I went to labor to write a hymn on the Gracious Experience of a Christian. As I went up to Holborn I had the chorus: On Christ the solid Rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand. In the day I had four verses complete, and wrote them off. On the Sabbath following, I met brother King... who informed me that his wife was very ill, and asked me to call and see her. I had an early tea and called afterwards. He said that it was his usual custom to sing a hymn, and read a portion, and engage in prayer before he went to meeting. He looked for his hymnbook but could find it nowhere. I said, I have some verses in my pocket; it he liked, we would sing them. We did, and his wife enjoyed them so much that after service he asked me, as a favor, to leave a copy of them for his wife. I went home, and by the fireside composed the last two vers4s, wrote the whole off, and took them to sister King... As these verses so met the dying woman s case my attention to them was the more arrested, and I had a thousand printed for distribution. In 1852, Edward, 55, gave up his carpentry to pastor the Baptist Church in Horsham, Sussex, where he ministered 21 years. He resigned in 1873, in failing health, saying, I think I am going to heaven; yes, I am nearing port. The truths I have been preaching, I am now living upon and they ll do very well to die upon. Ah! The precious blood. He passed away at age 77. Here s an interesting verse from Mote s original that is omitted from most hymnals today: I trust His righteous character; His council, promise, and His power; His honor and His Name s at stake To save me from the burning lake; On Christ the solid Rock, I stand, The Solid Rock My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus name On Christ the solid Rock I stand, When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil. On Christ the solid Rock I stand, His oath, His covenant, His blood, Support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my Hope and Stay. On Christ the solid Rock I stand, When He shall come with trumpet sound, O may I then in Him be found! The kids had so much fun dressing up as policeman and firemen in our dramatic play center, mailing letters at the post office, checking in patients at the preschool medical center and driving toy cars around our town. Over the next few weeks we will be studying pumpkins. We have set up a pumpkin market, a pumpkin themed restaurant, and will be sorting, weighing and measuring pumpkins in our science center. We will also be building a pumpkin patch outside on the playground and cutting open pumpkins to investigate them from the inside out! We will gladly accept donations of pumpkins (any size) to add to our patch. Thank you for your help and for sharing your children with us. PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES The little lambs have been busy learning letters A, B, C and D. They have also been practicing rotating centers, walking to chapel, coloring, praying, and singing. Ask your Little Lambs to sing some of their favorite songs from school! Little Lambs have show and tell every Thursday. They love standing up and telling their classmates about their toys 6

7 7 KINDERGARTEN ACTIVITIES Kinderoos have had a great start to the school year. They have been busy writing in their math and reading journals, learning sight words and sharing about their library books in their weekly book talks. Friday field trips have been a great experience and the kinderoos want to say THANK YOU to the library and Brookshire Brothers for being so accommodating and helpful! BIBLE TIME/CHAPEL Pastor Reich and chapel time is always a BIG HIT! The kids love visiting Pastor, hearing a Bible story and singing songs. Students have also been learning Bible stories in their classrooms. Look for your child s Bible story page to come home each week and ask them to re-tell the story to you. It s amazing what they can recall! ZOO CREW Afternoons are FUN! After nap the Afternoon Zoo Crew crafts, sings, experiments, and plays outside. They also have a snack and practice their computer skills at the technology center. Afternoons are especially fun because all the kids, Little Lambs, Mighty Lions and Kinderoos, get to play together! MIGHTY LIONS The mighty lions have been working on letters F, A, and T. They have practiced writing on dry erase boards, in gel, and on paper. They have also been talking about sins, forgiveness and the importance of telling the truth. The kids 7
