Last month my article was about a book Joining Jesus on His Mission and how we as Christians are to use our everyday lives as a witness to the people around us to display the love of Jesus. As we saw in our Exodus Series, one of the reasons for all of the plagues and the calling of the Israelite people was so that Egypt, the Israelites and the surrounding countries would know that the God of the Israelites was the true God. The same is true for us today. We, as God s chosen people, are to make known to the world that Jesus Christ is the true God. On Sunday, June 4 th, we have our Junior Confirmation along with several baptisms and adults joining St. John. This tells us that we are reaching out to the community with the life saving message of Jesus Christ and people are experiencing the love of Jesus at St. John and in our witness to others. I believe God is using us in a mighty way to show the world the love of Jesus. We still have a lot of work to do and we are living in some exciting times of the church. We have ample opportunities each day to share Jesus with someone in our lives. We need to continue to mature in our faith so that we have the strength to be Jesus witnesses. The world we live in is tough. We have so many temptations that we are confronted with and every time we turn around there is some attempt in our lives to draw us away from Him. I want to encourage each of you to make an intentional effort to strengthen your faith. Read your Bibles and spend some personal prayer time daily. Join one of our Bible studies during the week or on Sunday. Bring your children to Sunday school. Call or text each other with some encouraging words and scripture. Be in worship every Sunday. Don t be afraid to reach out to someone when you are struggling and need someone to talk to or to pray for you. These are all ways to stay connected to God and get the encouragement and strength we need to live as Christians in this fallen world. I pray a special blessing on each of your summer plans. Remember, that as Christians, we are forgiven and redeemed children of God. Because Jesus loved us so much that He died for us, we want the world to know that He also loves them and died for them. May we continue to be used by God to share the message of our risen Savior with A Heart for Hamilton County and the World!

Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me Edward Hopper Edward Hopper, the writer of this hymn, was born in New York City; went to school at New York University and Union Theological Seminary, both in New York City; and spent his life ministering to churches in New York City, except for eleven years when he served a church on Long Island. Hopper s favorite ministry was a small church near New York Harbor called the Church of the Sea and Land. It was a ministry to sailors who used the harbor. Hopper was a quiet and humble man, hardly the type you would think could minister effectively to boisterous men of the sea. Most of his hymns were written anonymously he didn t acknowledge this hymn until seven years after it was published. At Hopper s funeral, it was said that he had entered the heavenly port, safely piloted by that never-failing friend, Jesus, whose divine voice was still tenderly whispering to him, Fear not, I will pilot thee. 6 The Book of Concord contains documents which Christians from the fourth to the 16th century A.D. explained what they believed and taught on the basis of the Holy Scriptures. It includes, first, the three creeds which originated in the ancient church, the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. It contains, secondly, the Reformation writings known as the Augsburg Confession, the Apology of the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles, the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope, Luther's Small and Large Catechisms, and the Formula of Concord. The Catechisms and the Smalcald Articles came from the pen of Martin Luther; the Augsburg Confession, its Apology, and the Treatise were written by Luther's co-worker, the scholarly Phillip Melanchthon; the Formula of Concord was given its final form chiefly by Jacob Andreae, Martin Chemnitz, and Nickolaus Selnecker. 6
