Please come to help us support this very worthwhile cause Toddler toy sort and more.... Angela Jones There is a need to sort and tidy the toddler toy cupboard and I am proposing this work be done on Tuesday 3rd April from 12 Noon in the Youth Hall. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. I look forward to seeing you there! Also the time has come to ask for help on a Wednesday afternoon alongside myself and Angela in the kitchen and hopefully this will only be once a month to enable this important group to continue. I hope we can have a renaissance after Easter with a new wave of support: please come and speak to me if you can help on a Wednesday afternoon in any way. Many thanks in advance! James Re-imagine Church Conference A date for your diaries 9th March Reverend Trey Hall has announced there will be another Re-imagine Church Conference at Carrs Lane on that date. If the last two conferences are anything to go by it will be another brilliant day of worship and inspiration.

Talent Weekend As part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations we propose to have a Talents Weekend with a display of the talents of our members. For example, if you are an artist, photographer, card maker, sculptor, dressmaker, wood-turner, knitter, floral arranger, etc you might like to display your works of art during Saturday when we will open the church from and from 2 4 so the talents can be seen. (If I have not listed your talent please forgive me the list is not exclusive). Then in the evening at 7.00 pm there will be a concert when home-grown talent will be entertaining a gathered audience. On Sunday we will give thanks to God for all of the gifts and talents given to us. We hope to have another celebratory weekend please don t be shy I know what a talented group of people you are. Please sign up on the list on the blue board. Offertory Envelopes Anne The envelopes for the coming year are now available. Please collect yours if you are in the envelope scheme. Thank you, Robert Trigger Book of Remembrance This week, from our Book of Remembrance, we remember Sonja Griffin CTiB praying for each other Please pray for Holy Trinity & St Mary, Dodford. Christ Church, Catshill and Rev Beverley Robertson Collect for today Living Lord, whose love displaced the gravity of stone; you entrusted women, who loved beyond death, with news of resurrection: we praise you for the open gospel which ends where Easter faith begins; accept our fear, our disbelief and take us into this new world led by the risen Son; through Jesus Christ, the firstborn of the dead. Amen SWIMATHON On 28th April I shall be attempting 1.5 km (60 lengths) in the national SWIMATHON event raising money for Cancer Research and Marie Curie (70%) and the Swimathon Foundation which gives grants to promote swimming participation in local communities. The sponsorship forms are coming soon and I would be grateful if you could sponsor me. You can also sponsor me on the internet by going to Anne

Annual Church Meeting Our Church ACM will be held on Sunday 15th April during the morning service. Singing for fun Our next singing for fun will be held on Friday 20th April between 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm. If you enjoy singing then please come and join us for a good sing followed by coffee. Hilary Your church needs YOU (as a steward!) We are well served by our stewards but we could always do with more! There are 3 different types (apart from Communion Steward etc) - that is, first, assistant and vestry. The first steward has the responsibility to open up, ensure everything is done to support the preacher and is usually last to leave, locking up as they do so. The assistant is someone who is there to support the first steward, and then, after the service, be available to count and record the collection - which they do with the vestry steward - as the collection counting is the only real responsibility for the vestry steward. We are one first steward short (and have been for nearly 2 years) so we could really do with help there (the more stewards the less times the duty comes round!) and we always welcome more folks as assistant or vestry steward. If you would like to take on one of these roles please speak to Anne or Dave and preferably before the Annual Church Meeting on April 15th. Thank you. Thank you Dave Paul & Jocy Masters would like to thank all friends and family for their kind thoughts, cards and gifts for Ashley following his birth and recent christening. No Notices on 15th April! I shall be unable to produce the usual notices for 15th April, therefore it has been suggested that I follow my usual Christmas practice of doing two-in-one. If you have notices that you would normally submit for 15th April edition, then please send them to me, as early as possible, for the 8th April edition. Next week s edition, 8th April, will contain the usual information plus the week s activities and details of services that would have appeared in the notices for 15th April. I trust that this is acceptable. 50th Celebration Pens Don Have you got yours yet? Our commemorative pens are available in the porch, priced 1 each. They also have a stylus for use on tablets, ipads, etc. and look stylish. Why not get yours today? Jan An opportunity to pray together Last September 1st we hosted a prayer time from 3 pm to 7 pm when the Church was set up with prayer stations and people came to read Scripture followed by times of silent prayer. As we reviewed this we thought that we would like to repeat the event. The date chosen for this is Friday 27th April. Please keep this date and come along. People who came last time found it to be a blessing.

Murder Mystery I hope you ve all marked the date for our murder mystery in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support! There are 8 suspects - Do you fancy being one? No lines to learn, ad-libbing an advantage! Captain Crawley-Bumble - A salty sea fool Marvin Marigolds - reluctant bellboy / flamboyant social climber Roger Righthand - Dashing cricket star, a first class batsman and flirt Cyril Slick - Chief Engineer, cheeky grease monkey Lily Iceberg - Prim and proper flapper Lady Iceberg - Stern Ice Queen, Lily's mother Madame Who-de-Wotwot - Flamboyant rich artist Beryl Belter - Glamorous starlet Who killed the good Doctor McDogood? Why? How? None of these questions will be answered before the 28th! For anything else about costumes, characters, etc, etc please ask me! Please let me know who you'd like to be, there can be no mystery playlets without the players (Navy Cut obviously!) Thanks, Easter Offering Envelopes Martin Tingle These were given out last Sunday and will be today. The offering is to support the work of the Methodist World Mission Fund, which supports the work of Mission Partners in sixty six churches in different parts of the world. Easter Offering is supported by Methodist Women in Britain. Stories from our Mission Partner churches can be heard at the Easter Offering Service to take place on Sunday 29th April at 6.00 pm at Bromsgrove Methodist Centre. The service will be led by Ms Jackie Hartrey and the guest Speaker will be Deacon Janet Thomas. Everyone is welcome to come to this service of dedication of the offerings from the Circuit. Thank you for supporting the work of World Mission. Carole Easter Celebration It is with great joy to report that the Easter Celebration led by Catshill First School on Wednesday was a fine display of celebrating Easter in word and song. Over 120 pupils and staff filled the church, and to hear the singing and listen to the children s poetry was really wonderful, and to journey with Anne through Holy Week with an Easter present with many relevant symbols rounded the time together off well. My grateful thanks go to everyone who helped on the day welcoming, looking after the screen and sound and to ensure the event ran as smoothly as it did. Happy Easter to all my friends at Catshill, and may the glorious resurrection touch you in many different ways through this Easter season and beyond. Alleluia, He is Risen, He is Risen indeed, alleluia! Blessings and peace, James

A Leer from the Manse April 2018 Dear Friends, Perhaps it is appropriate that this leer comes out on Easter Day a day of new beginnings. As I write this, Easter Day seems a long way away especially as we have to go through the days of Holy Week. Also a friend of mine who is a weather forecas$ng fana$c has informed me that there is a 50/50 chance of snow on Easter Day by the $me you read this we will know if he was right! This friend thought he was star$ng, with others, a new programme on local radio and while he was with me he did a short recording of me talking about Easter and what it means to me personally and as a minister. Easter is to me the founda$on of my faith, though I have to say Easter to Pentecost is one event with different acts. Palm Sunday declares God in Jesus coming to his people, entering the hustle and bustle of life. He was welcomed enthusias$cally but, when people recognised what following him would mean for them, they turned against him and, even those who knew him well, betrayed, denied and le. him on his own to face trial, torture and cross. The Cross of Jesus declares to me the length and breadth, height and depth of God s love for us. If we had not gathered from the witness of the Old Testament the steadfast love for and unwavering commitment of God to his people then we see it on the Cross. As Mar$n Leckebusch says in his hymn StF 271 Come wounded healer Your willing agreement to share in our strife Transforms our despair into fullness of life. And that fullness of life is truly shown in the empty tomb and the resurrec$on of Jesus, which brings us to Easter Day. Easter Day is a day of rejoicing death is not the end; there is a future, as Michael Forster says in his hymn (StF 734) death destroyed, life restored, love alone shall reign. That life restored con$nues to grow as we celebrate the joy of Pentecost when we remember that frightened disciples were changed into bold apostles and when the good news of Jesus broke out of Jerusalem and Pales$ne to reach the whole world. And God s Spirit con$nues to change lives and break down barriers. Our task is to receive that Spirit daily and to look for those places where that Spirit is already working and join in the work. As together in Catshill we seek to bring Christ s life into the world so may this be our prayer:- Come Holy Spirit, Help me to wonder at God s love, To wait upon God s word And to act with compassion, That God s Kingdom might be on earth as it is in heaven. Amen (Prayer by Revd Michaela A Youngson) Have a happy Easter, God Bless, Events Committee Anne The Events Committee are happy to report that they made 200 for Church funds from the quiz evening. It was a very successful evening enjoyed by everyone who attended. Clothing Collection for Refugees I will be taking more clothing, toiletries and new underwear and socks to the collection point at the Bridge on Saturday 5th May. If you can have a sort out of suitable clothing and footwear, etc please place it in the collection box in the Porch. Thank you, Carole
