3 Dear Friends, On this last weekend of Easter before we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, we celebrate and lift up the gifts of the Spirit that are so manifold in this community of St. Thomas the Apostle parish. We celebrate our call to be full disciples of Christ by exercising our Baptismal rights and responsibilities in committing to share our gifts for the common good, to be and build up the church, the Body of Christ. It is a vision and call we have received from our baptism to be The People of God. Through our stewardship commitment to share the We embrace ourselves and who we are called to be. gifts of our time and talents this Ministry Commitment Sunday, that vision of church becomes a flesh and blood reality. We celebrate it and embrace it with all our hearts, we embrace ourselves and who we are called to be. As we share our gifts it is an answer to the prayer of Jesus on our behalf which we hear in the gospel today: Holy Father, I pray not only for them (the Apostles), but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me. It is the sign of Jesus we heard a couple of weeks ago, by your love for one another all will know you are my disciples. As we share our gifts and time and treasure with each other, that sign becomes very visible and effective, a real sacrament. The unity and peace we have from our love of one another and all people is what Jesus wants for the world to know. We are that message; we are the Word made flesh in our time and space. That is the call for us today. Please read carefully over our wonderful ministry catalogue and make the choices the Spirit leads you to as a way of bearing witness to Christ and your discipleship. Our parish is strong and beautiful because of all the ways you share your gifts, talents, and treasure. In the name of Jesus and the whole People of God, Thank You! You are a gift. Seventh Sunday of Easter May 20, 2007 I am the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Revelation 22:13 That all may be one in Christ,

5 Pray For Our Parish Ascension Sunday God our Father, through the waters of baptism you have filled us with new life as your very own children. From all who are baptized in water and the Holy Spirit, you have formed one people, united in your Son, Jesus Christ. You have set us free and filled our hearts with the spirit of your love, that we may live in your peace. You call those who have been baptized to announce the good news of Jesus Christ and to proclaim him as Lord and Savior to people everywhere. By recalling our own baptism through this rite of sprinkling and by sharing the faith of your Church may we, one day, be raised up with Jesus to the glory of eternal life. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. 6 Faith and Spiritual Formation Commission Welcome to the Newly-Received Rejoice and be glad! On Sunday, May 6, 7 adults and 3 teens were formally received into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church. These baptized Christians each made a profession of faith, were confirmed, received their First Eucharist and are now fully initiated members of our community. Please welcome... Kevin Busdeker Dena Coe Richard Harb Dennis Klesel Heather Kryczka Carolyn Kryczka Laurie Kurland Claire North Jennifer Sanchez Carlos Skenandore C.A.R.E. CORNER We are exploring the concept of worship, especially with regard to God s expectations for us. And God s directions here are very clear. We are all familiar with the Ten Commandments, the first of which is you shall not have other gods besides me (Exodus 20:3). In other words, you shall not worship any other gods. Jesus told us this one is the most important commandment of all. In His words, You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind (Matthew 22:37). God alone is worthy of our worship, because to worship means to honor, adore, and revere; to show great reverence toward. Worship is what we give our hearts to. We worship what we are passionate about. And to our passions, we devote time, attention, talents and resources. Does God top the list of what you are passionate about? Seeking Faith? What are you looking for? If the answer is I don t know or I m not sure, then RCIA Inquiry may be for you or someone you know. A new Inquiry group is forming now which will meet from 7:30-8:30 p.m. on the Mondays of May 21, June 4 and June11 in Meeting Room 2. This is a welcoming place for unbaptized persons or Christians of other denominations considering entering the Roman Catholic Church to ask questions and explore the faith before making a formal commitment to it. For more information, or to register, contact Chari Rosales in the Adult Faith Formation Office at x138 or crosales@stapostle.org. May 20, 2007 Page 6
