GÉRARD S CORNER Especially appropriate during this Jubilee Year of Mercy, in today s Gospel Jesus quotes not the law, but Isaiah s Book of Consolation, proclaiming glad tidings to the poor... liberty to captives... recovery of sight... a year acceptable to the Lord (Luke 4:18, 19). But Jesus omits Isaiah s threat of God s vengeance and adds, from elsewhere in Isaiah, let the oppressed go free, which Isaiah links to sharing bread with the hungry, clothing the naked, and sheltering the oppressed and homeless (vs. 18). Pope Francis highlights this very passage in the decree announcing this Jubilee Year of Mercy. What our Lectionary translates as a year acceptable, Pope Francis notes is more often translated a year of favor or mercy. What Jesus proclaimed so long ago, Pope Francis writes, is what we wish to live more consciously, more intensely right now. Translating Isaiah s list into today s needs, Pope Francis hopes this Jubilee Year will bring attention to the richness of Jesus mission: to console the poor, to liberate those bound by our society s contemporary forms of enslavement, to shed light on those who have been blinded by self-interest, and to restore dignity to all who have been robbed of this most basic human right. By translating Jesus preaching into the concrete witness of practical charity, we also respond to Paul s timely challenge: to recognize ourselves as Christ s one body and each other all others as cherished members of Christ s one body, too. Setting boundaries fosters healthy relationships..... We create boundaries to keep our lives in order, for example many adults separate personal and professional relationships. Trusted adults can help teach children to do the same. Boundaries are essential in the foundation of relationships, and children should be comfortable expressing where they draw their own lines. No means no is easy to say in theory, but it should be respected in practice by your kids and their friends, teachers and other adults. Teach your kids how to explore their own comfort zones and give them time to tell you about their experiences. Open communication helps them understand that setting boundaries is part of life. Esta semana Jesús regresa a Nazaret y de una manera sencilla, pero dramática, anuncia su misión. Reunidos aquí para celebrar la Buena Nueva de la presencia de Dios entre nosotros tomemos en serio la misión de Jesús y oremos para que se nos conceda la gracia de llevarla a cabo en nuestra vida. PREGUNTA DE LA SEMANA A quiénes puedo identificar pobres, encadenados o ciegos que necesiten una respuesta práctica de mi parte para que éste sea un Año Jubilar de la Misericordia para ellos? RECongress es la reunión anual más grande de su tipo en el mundo. El evento de cuatro días se lleva a cabo en el Centro de Convenciones de Anaheim (California) y es patrocinado por la Oficina de Educación Religiosa de Los Angeles. Inicio en 1968 como "Instituto" para profesores de educación religiosa (CCD), RECongress ha crecido hasta incluir a personas de todas las vocaciones y religiones diferentes. Día de la Juventud (25 de febrero, 2016) - El Congreso abre el jueves con un evento de un día para los jóvenes de preparatoria. Esta es una oportunidad para los estudiantes - no sólo de la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles, sino de toda California y los estados del oeste de reunirse y compartir la liturgia, conferencias, entretenimiento y experimentar la energía de un Rally Juvenil.
