Their philosophy rests on the principles that every person, created in the image of God, has innate human dignity and the right to be treated with respect; and every person has the fundamental right to what is needed for a fully human life. Mend was born over four decades ago in a North Hills garage. From its humble beginnings by a small group of volunteers from 3 Catholic parishes, MEND has been transforming lives and providing a pathway out of poverty for the neediest residents of the northeast San Fernando Valley for close to 50 years. It is now one of the most successful and respected nonprofit organizations in California with the largest food bank in the Valley, medical, dental, and vision clinics, clothing, homeless care services, as well as support and care through case management services. They serve over 15,000 clients a year with an average of 30,000 client encounters each month. They are reliant on volunteer support, donations and financial contributions from the local community - individuals, churches and businesses, to continue to be a leader in caring for our neighbors in need. Some of our neighbors in the San Fernando Valley will not be so fortunate, living in homes or garages without heat, in cars, or on the street. This year, MEND has invited us to donate NEW blankets of any size (twin, double, queen or king) which will be distributed to the needy in December. However, this year (2018) the Immaculate Conception remains a Holy Day of Obligation, even though December 8 falls on a Saturday. In general, the Immaculate Conception remains a Holy Day of Obligation, even if December 8 naturally falls either on a Saturday or on a Monday. This is because Mary, under the title of the Immaculate Conception, is the Patroness of the United States. In the time frame, from Friday, December 7, to Sunday, December 9, we are obligated to attend two separate Masses for two distinct obligations: We are obligated to attend one Mass, in order to fulfill our obligation for the Holy Day (The Immaculate Conception), as well as another Mass, in order to fulfill our Sunday obligation (The Second Sunday of Advent). Since these two obligations are distinct, they must be fulfilled by attending two separate Masses. One cannot fulfill both obligations, at once, by only attending one Mass. It is not a two-for-one (two-fer). Friday, December 7th Vigil of the Immaculate Conception This will be a family Mass at 6:00pm Saturday, December 8th Feast of the Immaculate Conception Masses will be at 8:15am and 5:30pm - Bilingual Mass times for Sunday, December 9th Second Sunday of Advent - will be the normal Sunday mass schedule. Just a reminder that we are obliged to attend 2 separate masses on the weekend of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception: One to fulfill our obligation for the Holy Day (The Immaculate Conception), as well as another Mass, in order to fulfill our Sunday obligation (The Second Sunday of Advent).

Child Advocacy Centers are a resource for parents and children who have come into contact with sexual abuse. These centers work with children who have been victims of sexual abuse or violence, or who have witnessed traumatic events. Parents and others may need guidance as to how best to support children who have been victimized advocacy centers provide guidance, interviewing and counseling services to help victims of abuse heal and find justice.
