The June 24 Celebration Sunday Services are available on the Grace Website: We are an A f f i l i at e A MESSAGE FROM THE BISHOP Dear Friends, Grace, mercy and peace to you from God our Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; It is my pleasure to join you in honoring a faithful Pastor as he retires from full-time parish ministry. Bishop John F. Bradosky I count it a blessing to have known Pastor Will Hartfelder from nearly the beginning of my ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, Ohio. We shared both the joys and sorrows of ministry as well as the pleasures and tragedies of life. The conviction of his faith, the wealth of his knowledge, his commitment to live the faith he professes and his valuing of healthy, accountable relationships, made Pastor Will a blessing to my life and the ministry we shared. While some may have been intimidated by his direct and honest approach to life and relationships, it was Pastor Will s way of investing himself in loving others. In a world filled with concern for political correctness rather than the truth I find Will s communication to be refreshing and Pastor Will s retirement uplifting. will also mark the end of During the time fola chapter in your life as a lowing the tragic death of our son, Joshua, Pastor congregation. At the same Will was a great source of time, it marks the beginchrist s compassion, mercy ning of a new chapter in and comfort for our family. your life that our Lord is Throughout his ministry he already writing. loved those he served with that same sense of compassion, comforting them in their sorrows, with the same comfort he too had received from Christ. In the midst of ministry challenges he was motivated by love and the ministry of reconciliation he received from Christ without compromising the truth. His integrity made him a trusted friend and partner in the Gospel we share. continued on page 2 of the North American Lutheran Church

2 A message from the Bishop - continued from page 1 Pastor Will has blessed the Church by heeding Christ s call to serve Him in Word and Sacrament Ministry as a Pastor of Christ s Church. His bold preaching and engaging teaching have helped countless people over the years to grow and mature in their faith. Through him the Holy Spirit has called people to faith in Jesus Christ. I know that he treasures the memories of those he has baptized, confirmed, communed, taught, married, visited and with whom he shared the final moments of life here. We rejoice in his life and ministry to this point, but as one chapter in his life comes to its conclusion, another chapter begins. His ministry will change, but it is not concluded. He will continue to serve Christ as a husband and father. He will continue to share his faith with others. I am certain there will be opportunities for preaching and teaching that will encourage and inspire others. His gifts for administration and leadership will continue to bless the North American Lutheran Church. Pastor Will s retirement will also mark the end of a chapter in your life as a congregation. At the same time, it marks the beginning of a new chapter in your life that our Lord is already writing. While Pastor Will and his family are in my prayers on this special occasion be assured of my prayers for the entire family of Grace as you move forward continuing to faithfully follow Christ Jesus. I leave you with two verses of scripture. Jesus words in Matthew 25:21 Well done good and faithful servant and Paul s words to Timothy in Timothy II 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. They are indicative of Pastor Will s life and faith. With you I am rejoicing, celebrating God s gift to us in the life and ministry of Pastor Will Hartfelder. Rev. John F Bradosky, Bishop for I am not ashamed of the Gospel. It is the power of God for salvation to all who believe... Grace Logo by Sue Mahrt Grace is entering an exciting new era with our membership in the North American Lutheran Church and with a change in pastoral leadership ahead in the near future. To illustrate this new direction a new church logo was created to symbolically represent Grace. It was designed by Michael Braatz. The dominant image is based on the cross and the stained glass which form the focal point of our worship. The G in the center stands for God as well as Grace. With the cross reminding of Christ and his sacrifice and the rays of light spreading out like the Holy Spirit, the whole trinity is represented. The entire symbol represents Grace with God at our core and arms of color reaching out to others. Lois Rumph recently translated Michael s design into a banner which is displayed at the back of the worship space. Thanks to her skill and effort we can see this symbol of Grace and our beliefs and mission each week when we worship. Thanks to Michael and Lois for sharing their talents to serve the Lord. At this time of year, W.A.R.M. faces additional challenges. During summer months the food drives become less frequent and as a result our shelves start to become depleted of a lot of items. We then must use our budget to go out and purchase many items to provide variety for our clients. During the summer when school is not in session, Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch is no longer available to the students. This puts an extra financial strain on our clients. In 2011 W.A.R.M. started the Kids Lunch Club to help with this shortfall. In 2018 The Kids Lunch Club has 10 sites and is serving over 325 children a day free lunch. W.A.R.M. also is providing enrichment activities for children Monday through Friday during the summer. Naturally, with the extra heat, electric bills are starting to rise. Finally, with kids being home over the summer some parents struggle to find day care options. Sometimes they must bring all of their children in for their visits. It also becomes more difficult for some of these clients to get in to our facilities as often. Consequently we are less able to help. These are some of the extra challenges that we face during the summer months. The VOICE of Grace Page 7

For centuries various elements of Church structures have been designed and built to help teach. Sculptures, paintings and parts of the building of a Church were intended to help parish members understand Scripture in a visual message. Have you noticed the stained glass at Grace? Grace ARCHIVES by John Kleberg In the stained glass windows around the nave four facets of the life of Christ are represented. At the northeast, Jesus as a baby, next to the south Jesus as teacher, across the nave in the south west, Jesus Crucified and then north Jesus Resurrected. For example, considering the panel of Jesus Crucified you see a crown of thorns, the cross, INRI, and dice used by soldiers to gable for Jesus robe. Each panel contains elements relative to that part of the life of Christ. The stained faceted glass behind the Altar is composed of glass chunks of varying thickness and laid in a definite pattern. The glass was part of the 1965 construction as made by Franklin Art Glass in German Village. The next Grace Lutheran Church, Supper Out will be at 6:30 PM on Thursday, July 19, We will gather at the Matt the Miller s Tavern, 1436 Gemini Pl., Columbus, Ohio 43240, Tel: Our June outing was at Sr. Antonio s on Rt. 23.
