UPCOMING EVENTS Pantry Weekend The next Pantry Weekend will be June As a result of your continued support, we are be able to provide wholesome food to 60+ households each month throughout the year. THANK YOU! We are requesting donations of the following items for this month's distribution: dry cereal, canned chicken, canned tuna, canned fruit, canned soup, peanut butter and jelly, canned pasta and canned vegetables. These items can be brought to Mass next weekend or to the Pastoral Office during the week. Monetary donations may be made using the blue St. Vincent de Paul envelopes found in the pews. Please make checks payable to "St. Vincent de Paul." Our next food distribution is Friday, June 29. If you know of anyone in the Parish Community that is in need of this help, please invite have them to call SVdP at (626) First Friday Masses & Adoration First Friday Morning Mass on July 6 will be held at 9:00 am. Adoration will follow in the Chapel in the Pastoral Office until 7:00 pm. A First Friday Evening Mass will be held in the church at 7:30 pm. Youth Ministry Paper Drive Fundraiser Save the date! The next Paper Drive Fundraiser hosted by the St. Luke Youth Ministry Program will be held the weekend of July Newspapers, books, magazines and cardboard boxes are welcome. Please do not bring donations prior to the dates/times listed. ANNOUNCEMENTS Turnaround Trip to San Manual Casino The Italian Catholic Federation is sponsoring a Turnaround Trip to San Manuel Casino on Sunday, June 24. The bus will leave the St. Luke North Parking Lot at 10:00 am and return at approximately 5:30 pm (Cars need to be parked by the Basketball Courts). Cost is $20 per person, with a $10 slot coupon upon arrival. Become a Eucharistic Minister to the Sick/Homebound If you would like to bring comfort and the healing power of Christ in the Eucharist to the sick/homebound, we invite you to consider becoming a Eucharistic Minister to the Sick/Homebound. This ministry brings Holy Communion to those unable to attend Mass because they are ill, hospitalized or homebound. During their visits Eucharistic Ministers share readings from scripture and conduct the rite of Communion of the Sick. Training and guidance are provided. 3 Pastoral Office (626) Father Mark s Corner 'One LIFE, one humble seed' One life, one humble seed may be a title used for the wonderful Archbishop Oscar Romero who was martyred while celebrating Mass in El Salvador. He is being proclaimed a Saint of the Church later this year. He was an unlikely candidate for the Office of Bishop and yet the ministry of his office transformed him from being a man of book learning into the fearless shepherd that Christ called him to be defending the rights of his people and standing up to those who threatened him with ridicule, criticism and death. With his blood, like Christ and the martyrs before him, Romero became the seed of hope for a nation gone astray in the murderous rampage and conflict gripping that country. We, too, are called to be witnesses by challenging others to change their ways. We all have experienced the self-righteousness of those who believe they are the chosen ones or are entitled. Such is the reputation of many. Reality, points us in a different direction and calls us to be the humble and powerful seed...that may die...but, will produce much fruit that will last! Spiritual Reflection: Let s think of a vivid image: the beautiful garden filled with the choicest fruits to serve and honor the Lord OR the rats and roaches below trying to strip the tree. Which shall we be known by? Prune away! Happy Father s Day to all of our dads and God bless you through your children. Whether we are called Father because we biologically created children or because we spiritually lead them, it is a title of respect that has transcended the ages. Each of us must do our very best to be men of prayer and example, men of courage and integrity, men of God and of mercy. It is too often tempting to live lives of mediocrity; however, we are called to greater things including, the Cross! Youth Ministry Wall-o-Money Fundraiser Sunday, June 24 After Masses Thank you to everyone who supported our first Wall-o-Money Fundraiser. We will host the fundraiser again on Sunday, June 24. Visit our table after Masses to select an envelope and make a donation ($1-$100) to the Youth Ministry Program. This fundraiser will assist us in raising funds for our youth to attend the conference in July at the University of Fullerton. Parishioners are also invited to place a picture or note with intentions inside the envelope. The intentions will be placed on a banner/poster to be prayed over at Adoration and Masses at the upcoming Steubenville Conference our youth will attend. At the conference, our teens will delve deeper in our Faith and continue our Journey in Christ. Through this experience we will learn about our relationship with the Lord through talks given by renowned speakers, attend daily Mass and Adoration, and go to Confession. Educate children to identify risky behavior Recently, abuse against women has been thrust into the public spotlight, with the Me Too movement. It is important for parents/caregivers be aware of risks to girls and risks to boys. Boys and girls both need to be educated on what s acceptable and what s inappropriate, and how to react if someone does something that crosses the line. It is important for adults to reinforce the message that we must all look for, identify, and call attention to the risky behavior exhibited by any adult toward any child. Youth Nights are for Junior High & High School teens to make new friends, learn about their faith, socialize with other teens, and pray with other teens. The format includes: bible study, fun nights, prayer/ adoration nights, open topics and many other events.
